Nokia Lumia 800 review: New beginnings

2 December 2011
It will take crowds erupting in delight to silence the ring of the "burning platform" speech in the Nokia Lumia 800's ears. The speaker being Nokia CEO Stephen Elop and the burning platform Symbian...

There are way too many software limitations of the OS to make this phone interesting. It's ridiculous that the OS is missing out at such important things like real multitasking, USB mass storage function and DivX support. Except for that the whole WP approach is wrong, why force people to use Zune, why downscaling photos when one wants to e-mail them? And why is the OS closing running applications on its own without the user wanting to do so? As a Nokia user one also wonders what happend with the TV-out and FM-transmiter among other things? Sorry Nokia, but this phone is not satisfying. I would gladly had bought the N9 if it was given some support. But Lumia is not an interesting phone and at a price simmilar to Samsung Galaxy SII and Iphone 4S the Lumia 800 has exceptional chances to become the shelf-warmer of the year!

The touch is definitely good and display is far better than Super AMOLED. Windows 7 office integration, outlook, multiple email is very impresive. People function is the best. You can link all your accounts in Facebook, outlook, twitter, gmail, yahoo, Ovi, linked in to one single place and see updates and browse with out wasting your time.
Some Negatives- U can't scroll between letters while typing message and cant receive or send contact card through SMS

I don't see any special from this phone. Just change the os while we can get many bettrr phone than this. Why gsmarena afraid to suggest that this has chance very big to fail rathen than just say "time will tell"? Nokia is a dying company now, then only expert in low end phone. The next siemens and motorola. And btw motorola now even better than nokia, just look at atrix n droid razr.

Am eagerly waiting for Symbian come back. Man its is pure cell phone OS. Its ui is bit clunky, but not functions. It supports great camera, and gives good battery life.

nokia needs to change os android maemo meego you choose just not w7 it's so obvious that w7 just save you for closing good. still it's not impressing some consumers..just like me. i used to buy nokia products. then i bought iphone it dit impress me but bored me eventually why no freedom like nokia (symbian). the the only made be buy iphone was curiosity for the ui. of course i jailbroken it. many times actually but got tired. Currently i'm using samsung galaxy s2 it is both impressing me hardware and software. i rooted it also for more tweaking such as freedom on customizing rom. widgets helped me a lot. i don't need to open and app to view what's going on on my updates emails and more.

Well I have one... and I'll respectfully disagree on most of the review's points:

                                  - Display dimmer than N9: haven't compared the two, but it's still bright enough to occasionally hurt my eyes and function as a flashlight, so clearly bright enough!
                                  - No flash/silverlight: Good effin riddance! With HTML5 support, why do you need them?
                                  - USB mass storage: Point, but I rarely use my phone as a USB key, I carry a 32GB one on my keychain instead.
                                  - No video calls/ffc: I have yet to see anyone I know ever actually make a video call, except to test the feature (once). So it's a gimmik afaic.
                                  - Non-replaceable battery: I agree this is a negative. iPhone users seem to manage just fine.
                                  - No memory card slot: Unnecessary since there's no USB mass storage anyway. There might be a 64GB version eventually. But feh, my old Android phone had 32GB and I never came close to using it all.
                                  - MicroSIM: I fail to see how this is a disadvantage. I called my operator and they sent me a MicroSIM for my existing subscription at no cost to me.
                                  - No native DivX/Xvid: WP7 has native DivX support. See: http://goo.gl/epLR

i have galaxy S2, but love both Nokias N9 and Lumia.
                                    maybe N9 bit more ;)

Why do we really need flash in a mobile device? To play games and to see animations? Really? There are examples of flash uses: http://www.leebrimelow.com/?p=1703 http://twitpic.com/10fjic . This was on an ipod, but you got the point.

truth, 03 Dec 2011Too bad that WP is the worst mobile OS on market. It's more... moredont compare your grandfather with yourself.
                                        Symbian's lifetime is over...
As i see, WP7 is equal to ios(instant response) where android is laggy.
as per maturity WP7 is not yet in a stage to be compared with Android 4.0, WP7 is just 1.0 now[Mango].
WP7 2.0[Apollo] will be ready to take head-on with Android. but it will take a decade to stamp Android.
Failure chances are there for any mobile os.
                                        Symbian - declared dead
                                        Meego - Born with difficulties
                                        iOS - has cancer
Android - has got Ebola,Polio, influenza, diabetes,Hiv,Cancer and more to come
WP7 - is just born to fight the whole world of haters with just bare hands.

                                        lets see what happens
