Samsung Galaxy Nexus review: Opening new doors

30 December 2011
Once again, it is the Nexus time of the year. This time, Google has left the Gingerbread cookies and, together with Samsung, has brought to us the Galaxy Nexus to deliver the Ice Cream Sandwich. And while a cold dessert is totally out of place this holiday...

Anonymous, 08 Jan 2012What I came to know it's the same camera as galaxy s2 unit,... moreWell, if you read a little bit more about digital camera sensors you will know the fact that more pixel density (relation between the sensor's area and amount of pixels) the more noise the sensor captures. I, as a camera enthusiast, can fully understand why they would choose a sensor with less pixel count in favor of a less noisy one. More pixel count doesn't exactly mean better images. That's why big cameras have a much lesser pixel density in its sensors (they are considerably bigger with, sometimes, less pixels than a phone's camera).

What amount of memory (RAM/system) is available for applications?

It is really strange that this kind of info is extremely difficult to find anywhere, in any reviews - probably, because reviewers do not (usually) install applications or actually *use* the phone for anything beyond standard functions.

Guys @gsmarena, it would be really cool if you would post this data in specifications (easily grepped from memory info page), as manufacturer specifications may mean nothing. 1G of RAM doesn't necessarily mean that even half of it is available to applications, you know that :)

just noticed something for your audio call tests.

You rate based on what seems like overall volume of voice and ring. I would argue that it's more indicative of quality by rating by ratio of voice to white noise with ringtone loudness as a modifier. If you did this, you'll notice that the rankings will shift quite a bit.

Hey. Something is missing in the review. The fact that this phone does not have a video call feature in the software. The video call camera is useless. :(

Blurring the crap out of sections in a photo is not "noise control".

The camera on this phone is garbage and GSM arena know it.

I have a Samsung Note and begining to think there is too much hype about Samsung products. They are just too over rated for what they actually deliver. People even complain about the tinny sound. This Nexus is yet another compromise and it shows. After all the big reving up with Android we are now seeing the problems and the short cuts. Samsung will be unable to sustain a new mobile development every month as it is boring. Where now is the new technology - not is this Nexus which is already out of date by Samsungs own standards.

135.5 x 67.9. Is every Google Flagship phone going to be bigger than the last. It is like they are un-inventing the mobile phone.

I have a feeling, that we will see a Galaxy Nexus+ with a 8MP+ camera, radio and memory slot sometime in the mid of the year. That looks like a general strategy everywhere. Apple did the same and now Samsung is also going it with Galaxy Ace+
