Sony Xperia S vs. Samsung Galaxy S II: S-hootout

09 March 2012
Released nearly a year apart, the Sony Xperia S and the Samsung Galaxy S II are not that different - both are flagship droids with dual-core CPUs and 4.3" screens. But the newer Xperia S brings some fine upgrades, like a 12MP camera and a 720p screen.

SAMOLED+ cannot produce true blacks the same way it cannot even do whites or produce true to life colours

Open up a black image file, no matter the file format, and view the phone's screen in complete darkness... You'll see the glow

Worst offender in this is the Motorola RAZR's screen

Samsung Galaxy S2 miles ahead but an over a year old,but we have the S3 on the way,so the Xperia might be new an a challenge, but Sony phones always lets there phones downs with the Speakers an Audio,as the Speakers on the Galaxy S2 are truelly Loud an Clear

Anonymous, 09 Mar 20121 year difference and still, S2 wins. What a shame.Ha? Better Screen, Better camera, newer version of Android, NFC, MicroHDMI, better front camera, better gpu performance, faster CPU, much better design, PLAYSTATION certified, TV launcher, free content from Sony, Nano Coating body that repels dirt, fast charge capability, 3D camera, fast capture, equalizer, surround sound, better headphones, probably getting Android 5.0, Facebook inside Xperia, Timescape, bigger battery and it's a Sony...

So Galaxy S won because it has SD card support? Lol....

While comparing the screens of these two phones, there is no mention of what the videos and images look like. Just talking about contrast ratios and viewing angles is not enough.

That's a BIG omission that should have been addressed!!!!

Compare a phone that was availible almost a year a go with one that was released a month ago...I think is not fair ... sony had ten months to do their phone better

Xperia S won by far hands down. I don't care what Samsung fanboys/trolls or S2 users say, Xperia S wins.

I would consider this phone if it was released the same time as S2 but since S3 is coming out soon..this is nothing to be really excited about.

The writer for this article needs to know that blacks on the superamoled are not "zero light" it shows a faint glow when displaying a black image. Zero light is defined by locking the device, there is a massive differnece between both.

This pretty much vindicates my comments on the earlier thread "Xperia S available on 3"...

Basically, although it's a good phone, it's still in some areas being beaten by a phone A YEAR OLDER...

I don't think it's going to be a big hit unfortunately - and diluting the design by giving the mid-range and low-end phones exactly the same look, is another fail...

Such a shame, it had a lot of promise, but too many compromises for people upgrading from a GS2 (like myself)... it would like be taking a step back as opposed to an upgrade...

I think it'll be the same for the HTC One X - no radio or external memory (as well as typically poor camera) will be its downfall...
