Arrogant claim for not being one seeing how the market works, placing yourself above those who for their own reasons aren't techies or nerds, especially when compared to people who have better things to do such as business people and the likes
Techs and nerds make up far less than even 0.001% of android users, and Sony, like HTC, sings a different tune compared to LG and Samsung, just in different directions that focuses more on the user than the numerics based on the phone itself, and for those people, the user experience side of things and the fact that things just work is an upgrade over the SGS2. No comment on Motorola, the RAZR was a disappointment, and the only product I really liked from them was the Defy
For the record, the fact that things just work is why Apple phones sell very well

Btw for ppl happy of that "victory" one year later, it's a bit sad to see that ppl either just arrive or don't remember that Sony is always late. Bringing 1 year later what they should have released in same time than its other competitors. Xperia Arc just before SGS2, now this one just before quad core phones.
Congrats to Sony, but in a techie/nerdie world, it's useless. Only ppl without knowledge rejoice here or would think about buying one atm.

While it's true that what the general public does may not be the correct thing in the eyes of the more practical person in the know how, the way you place yourself above others is kind of disturbing
You've not seen the songpiece that Sony reps did when it comes to the XS that is not featured on any review sites when it comes to its connectivity features, something phones from other brands will not even carry in the future even if DLNA compliant
Arrogant much?
Also, let's play on numerics then
LG Quad on Quadrant = ~4300 points, XS on Quadrant = ~3100+ points
hardware is but half of the equation, optimization on the software front is another. Though Sony does a good job, no other company does this better taking care of a first time Android user as much as HTC does with their well thought out Sense layout, which impresses as much as it works n their older iterations.
Too bad Sense takes a huge bite out of the Quadrant scores, but for the common person who just wants a phone that works, it works.

You guys can rescue and defend this phone all you want, but all i'm trying to say is that if this phone is the new sony flagship then this will eat dust compared to other upcoming flagships. all you guys brag about is hdmi bla bla, design, bravia engine and other small stuff which, in my opinion, totally worthless. If i want a smartphone with good camera, i'll definitely get nokia 808. if i want faster phones, i'll get LG with quad core cpu. and if i want a premium-looking phone that everybody would "awe" about, i would definitely get iphone 4s. My point is that there's nothing so catchy or innovative this this xperia s which will make me want to get it. It doesn't stand out from the crowd. heck, its already a total shame that it has been beaten by a 1 year older phone which is the galaxy s2 in so many aspects. Call it excuse or whatever, let's just meet up again next time when s3 comes out and then see how good this xperia s really is.:)

You've yet to use the unit for itself
There's been a lot of people the past 2 days where I worked who switched from the SGS2 to the XS for good reason, even I've placed the SGS2 aside
The external memory maybe missed, but all I really did was to load it up with videos to show customers what android phones can do
HDMI hook up? The XS doesn't need it, it can transmit 1080p videos wirelessly and effortlessly to the television, the same way it can transmit it to laptops/desktops, and it can be networked to desktops/laptops, multiples of them, wirelessly pretty much effortlessly as well to pull content on and off the phone as needed. The SGS2's Wifi Direct isn't even designed to handle this
Design eh? Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, your opinion is as moot to those whose opinions are moot to you, but the general consensus of the common public is that the XS is either quite a good looking phone, or its strikingly beautiful
Add on to the feel of the phone itself. Virtually all the SGS2 users I came across the past 2 days pretty much are either quite impressed, or very impressed by how comfortable the XS feels in hand VS the SGS2
With that transparent antennae, forumers who own both phones have received better 3G signal connectivity as well, and given how 3G networks don't surpass certain speeds (depending on where you live), the average being 5mb/s where I am, the XS is stronger for websurfing for where it counts. I will provide the numerics when I get my SGS2 back from an AMOLED burn in replacement
Let's bring websurfing into consideration, especially with the amount of white or bright neutral colours that go around the web today. See the SGS2 batery drop real fast and the temperature of the screen go up yet? While you have to try real hard to get the XS to hit over 41^C, the SGS2 hits beyond 45^C easy
While the XS focuses on the user experience and networking connectivity, the SGS2 focuses a lot on brute power, first impression from its unaturally saturated colours (it's SAMOLED+ screen doesn't last long from heavy use, burns in easy like all AMOLED screens) and it's durability (maybe moot, since all users here virtually get flip cases for their phones)
I could go on, folks who are inexperienced and base their opinions based on reviews and numerics rather than experience the phones out for an extended amount of time and jump to conclusions without having even tried it are merely just... no comment

much better design = pathetic, i say. looks like a white chocolate bar with an eraser attached at the bottom to me.
ps certified = still, not a playstation device. i'd rather have ps vita than this if i want pure gaming experience.
fast charge capability = but actual battery life sucked!
this can go on forever but judging by this review, (if you actually read it) s2 beats xperia s in the most fundamental functions of a smartphone. (except camera, which still sucked for a 12 mp shooter) Given the 1 year advantage of xperia to s2 and this is all sony could come up for a new flagship, some petty little upgrade?!? Oh please. Wait till s3 comes up and it will chew and spit out this pathetic phone like a gummybear.

JM, 09 Mar 2012Compare a phone that was availible almost a year a go with ... moreThe x10 debacle, the Japanese earthquake that busted their production lines, and the thailand flooding that also busted their production lines made what you said extremely difficult to achieve
At least now with the purchase of Ericsson's side of the shares from the company, rolling out newer phones won't be as much as a hassle from having to being approved from 2 parent companies, so Sony will catch up to the game in specs eventually
In terms of home networking and connectivity however, they're already far ahead of the competition due to their implementation of DLNA, which none of the other companies can pull off with either custom or stock ROMs

Im sold with the Sony xperia s. But I would also like to give credit to Samsung gs2, knowing the fact that it was released a year ago and can still compete with today's new releases.

AMOLED just ditches that concept and goes far beyond what NTSC's limits are, so when after at an image on an AMOLED screen's extremely rich colours an unreal contrast that produces extremely low dynamic range in low lit photographs not from the cellphone itself, real life (from those images in the same lit conditions) looks dull all of a sudden, but you'll see more light being bounced off surfaces in real life
Same scenario goes for videos that are based off of real life (not animated videos)
