Sony Xperia S vs. Samsung Galaxy S II: S-hootout

09 March 2012
Released nearly a year apart, the Sony Xperia S and the Samsung Galaxy S II are not that different - both are flagship droids with dual-core CPUs and 4.3" screens. But the newer Xperia S brings some fine upgrades, like a 12MP camera and a 720p screen.

Some ppl seem to be forgetting that the Xperia S has 342ppi pixel density vs 217 (yes that's right) 217ppi on the S2. Nice amoled tho *ahum
It's also Playstation ready and has up to 10finger multitouch input.. slight details.

Now, SGS2 got ICS, I wonder when will Xperia S will receive an update. I'm pretty sure it's not gonna happen in a few months.

is it true that this phone has NO option of videocalling whatsoever. Like no wifi video calling, no paid video calling, no skype video calling, no gtalk calling?? I havent read anything about ths on its manual and I have read users complaining the same.

Very BIG downside if its true. WHat was the use of 1.3 MP front camera if vdo calling is not a feature of this HD camera!

Anonymous, 29 Mar 2012I've tried both and it's the other way round. If you've tried both then you clearly don't care about the speed/video quality/build quality/audio quality/camera quality cause it is just better then the gs2.

Unlike the review says the camera is allot better than the gs2 also better than the n8.
The setting for the audio are really good and can make it allot better.

The screen is also allot better you should check it out on youtube i think if you see them both next to eachother and play the same movie you will see its allot sharper the blacks are even better and the dark scenes are still visiable.(can't understand what people like about the amolet screens in movies)

This is why I bought the GSII. There will always be something better down the road, but the Galaxy is rellevant even today. I would definetly choose an Xperia S if I was buying today, but I don't regret my purchase one bit. You don't need the biggest baddest phone, you need a balanced one. Balance is the key.

Im unsure why you've posted the screen is better on the samsung over the sony when the Xperia S actually has more PPI given a much higher a vivid resolution.

despite of samsungs leading in technology, i need stable phone with tested features vs untestet newest technologies to avoid warranty changes of product. I have both Sony and Samsung equipment, sony provides products with delay, but with great finish, starting design and ending with good and stable hardware. I prefer better sony products than samsung. Sony productsalso looks more stylish than samsung unfinished designs.
