Samsung I9300 Galaxy S III review: S to the third

20 May 2012
Today is no ordinary day for the GSMArena test track, which is about to see the Bugatti Veyron of smartphones do the rounds in an attempt to beat the lap record of its predecessor. Samsung have spared no effort to protect the Galaxy S III against any odds.

Thank you GSMArena. I agree with many here - a very thorough review. .

However I'm confused. You seem to contradict comments that you have made in other reviews. For example:
how other phones have similar or better performance (Meizu Quad, HTC One X (AT&T), ...), how others have "better designs" (HTC, Sony), have batters quality materials, and the pentile screen.

Comments like
"Samsung have spared no effort to protect the Galaxy S III against any odds", "And because no effort was too much in insuring against any surprises, they ended up with something that's nearly impossible to beat"
Already this is (in your own other arguments) not as clearly the case as you say here.

And what sounds like a glossing over of the downside perceptions that GSMA elsewhere shared many others: "And yes, we still feel the glossy finish is a questionable choice as it lacks the high-end vibe that a smartphone of this caliber deserves. However, the Samsung Hyperglaze coating makes sure the S III doesn't look like a $200 handset in real life as the press photos suggested"

You do comment that "However, once we held the device in our hands, we realized that the Samsung I9300 design is actually not too bad" so we have to accept that your views have changed with time.

There are often comments from readers saying GSMA has a very Samsung bias. I somewhat agree, though I'd say there is room to argue that Samsung devices (generally) deserve much of that praise

My main point is this review really reads like a landslide to SGS3, however your own other articles make it sound like it's a much closer (and less clear) race.

I wished is had a much thinner bezel! That way the size increase over SII would be much smaller. Just look it this and tell me that an ultra-slim bezel wouldn't be just fantastic!

Oh Samsung - why wasn't this the SGS3 design?!?!

How on earth did you come up with ... moreMicroSim is a disadvantage because it's not a universal standard, an inconvenience to have to convert one, and you can't swap your SIM to a standard phone if you want (say you need a replacement if yours needs to go off for repairs)

Anonymous, 22 May 2012Must admit I am kind of disappointed. Read entire review an... moreRather than optimising o/s to run smoothly on Single core , its better to optimis for dual core, atleast for andorid 4.0 and above. though o/s is optimised to run smoothly on a single core, there are other aspects which cannot be done better with single core. best example Games. Not every one is into Gaming , but Games do have good share in SMARTPHONE features.

The way you dont like Touchwiz or Sense (although i respect your taste), you should agree that there are people who like them , a lot too. In fact touchwiz/ sense do make a differnece than vanilla. Thats what is ANDORID for, mould the phone the way you want to. Or else it would be another WP/iOS. I shall not deny that there is enough bloatware to annoy us, at times.

Releasing a 4 core device is the sole decision of the OEM and the market trend.not Google's ... right?

Lets seee how the 4 cores scale up in utilisation and how well the added software package helps Gs3 to rise.

People complaining about the size of this handset in parrot like fashion don't know the simple solution to this problem? Don't buy it of course and get one that is the right size for YOU and no one else.
It's like me owning a VW Golf and going on a Cadillac owners forum and complaining that Caddies are way too big and are ugly when it's not relevant to the topic being discussed.
What ever people who won't be buying a GS3 think about it,there are millions of people across the world who are impressed by what they've seen so far and can live with or actually need or want a handset that size. This review lays all that out in as clear a way as possible so that people who do want to buy one and have pre-ordered have some idea what to expect from a new product they have yet to see for real.

Does it actually matter if it's made from plastic or polycarbonate,as long as it does what it's supposed to I couldn't care less if it's made from beaver hair and tram tickets.

Great phone, sure, but i'll wait for the Optimus 4X. It will be not as powerful as the SIII, but will be powerful enough, perhaps have a better battery life (due to the companion core of the Tegra 3), and i think it's much better looking.

Please update your review! It's conformed by Samsung that S3 uses Polycarbonate instead of regular plastic.
