LG Optimus G review: Grand Slam

22 October 2012
Designed to a flagship standard and powered by the latest in handheld computing, the Optimus G cannot hope for a warm welcome from rivals but is due every bit of their respect. LG is not asking for it – it’s getting ready to earn it...

AnonD-63316, 23 Oct 2012I think not everybody needs that much space on a cell phone... moreA 720p HD movie is typically 4.3GB. Your own recordings of 1080p are how big? And whatwver mp3 collections and so on. In 2009 our phones could mot even play 720p, but i had no problem filling up my N900, that had 27GB user available internal storage.

Mayb you are not in the target group for quadcore high end phones. Sounds like u dont hav so high requirements. I was worried about the xperia TX becoz it has 16GB plus 32GB card. Lucky i got the note 2, 16 plus card 64. But i still need to buy a 64gig card....

Mobilemaster, 23 Oct 2012Maybe it's better, but LG said something else! This 13mp cam sux as much as the 13mp cam on xperia T. I looked at the photo compare tool now and the lgog has much less detail than sgs3. And then look at the hair of that lady. Its all a blur on the lgog, so bad. Now compare it to the old xperia S, it pwns the sgs3 as much as the sgs3 pwns the lgog. Epic fail by lg here. And by sony who made that 13mp sensor.

Video quality, sgs3 and note2 r both unchallenged. And whats the lg joke about capturing onli 1080p stills while recording video? Useless feature, its only a video screenshot. A screenshot!

specs r pretty nice n those added extra features r really cool but still i wont think it will take the top notch either from S3 or the note 2... benchmark scores r impressive but it lags much behind on browsermark n that may cause this phone a handicaped sales... design, features n specs r good but drawback is its OS... jelly bean preinstalled must have been better since lg is worst in providing os updates while low browsermark score is another drawback... rest is cool...

Hi GSMArena, thanks for a great review as usual.
I just have a few question that I would like to ask you to check out on the phone (if you still have it).
I am now own the LG 4X HD and there were 2 very important for me that missing from the 4X: first is the Bluetooth Tethering and second is USB Mass Storage device mode. I really use those functions a lot and didn't expect that such a simple function like this would be missing from such a high end phone like this.
Could you please check those 2 function if there are exist on the LG Optimus G?

Anonymous, 23 Oct 2012The sd slot is a showstopper, for sure. And wheres the ... moreOverpriced? It will cost around 600$, which is less than the Note 2 and even S3, devices with much less power and worse design. Don't be so angry that you chose the right phone and you now think that you should have waited for this one.

                                  GsmArena Final words
Safe to say, LG has done it - all the right pieces are put together in what's a good-looking and powerful smartphone. And unlike the Optimus 4X HD, the Optimus G isn't trailing behind the competition. This time LG is ahead of the pack.

If the rumours are true and the LG Nexus is essentially the same phone... then it seems like a good start.

Personally, i have 16Gb on my phone and no card slot, and it doesn't make any difference. I sync media wireless so i never would have pulled out that SD anyway. And i still have 5Gb free memory. Now I can assume that there are more people like me, so they won't mind having a phone with no SD card slot.
