Rumors of a mini version of the iPad had been laughed at, dodged and denied - not necessarily in that order and often all at once. But here it is - the iPad mini is finally a reality. It caused due measures of excitement and perhaps a bit of disappointment. Yet, in typical Apple fashion, it's an excellent piece of hardware. In short, it's a polarizing device that may as well be the next best-selling tablet.

"The iPad mini is nothing more than an iPad 2 with a smaller screen and premium finish"

A smaller design is exactly what will get the customer buying

The Official Apple iPad Mini is good. But according to the accessories, third party accessories (http://www.goodscool.net/china-electronics-wholesale/tablets-&-ipad-accessories/compatibility-brand-is-apple-ipad-mini/)are cost-effective.

Anonymous, 18 Nov 2012I find all this Andriod vs Apple arguments mostly nonsense.... moreOh, one more thing, im not even a fandroid, there was practical reasons why i had to switch from Maemo to Android, and i was not at all happy about it, Maemo is the greatest ever on handheld devices and im not gonna change my stand on that. Android is so inferior to Maemo that i cant even begin my line of arguments here, and still Android is just as much superior to iOS.

Off topic, reminds me of the discussions back in 02009/2010 "why N900 is better than iphone" and vice versa, when there was not even anything to discuss. N900 with its 800x480 display was more than enough to put iphones at the time to shame, and that was only scratching on the surface, coz when you went deeper than that even the android units of the time fell short, and they still do. Meaning iPhones has already been far inferior to the competition, making my purchase of N900 over iphone the easiest decision i ever had to make, it really was an F22 going up against ww1 airplanes, and the situation is not much better for iphone now, even if iphone4 enjoyed a significant display advantage for a while.

Anonymous, 18 Nov 2012I find all this Andriod vs Apple arguments mostly nonsense.... moreI like your style, for an apple user it got dignity. I guess i was the one to point out that aplle fans are more frustrated and seem less happy with their life, but that surely does not apply to you, and i realize that most apple users are like you, not like "ima a doctor!" a few posts down here (from 0Cb2). My brother in law also is iphone man and he is probably more balanced than me ahaha.

Apple products are getting further and far from Android products every day, there is soon no more good arguments hardware wise to defend an investment in an iphone or ipad, even disrespected chinese "brands" are now ahead of apple, so i have to question HOW MUCH LONGER CAN WE JUSTIFY CLASSIFYING IPHONE AS A SMARTPHONE? Is Nokia Asha series really smartphones? Absolutly, IF apple is.

I cant see any reason to get an ipad mini, tomorrow we will buy a tablet for my daughter and needless to say it will be android.

I find all this Andriod vs Apple arguments mostly nonsense. Especially when you get Apple users violently defending themselves like someone had insulted them by simply criticising Apple. Likewise when Andriod users make wide sweeping statements like iOS is too restrictive, Andriod users are less frustrated - all are totally subjective comments.

At the end of the day people will by what they perceive to be good value, regardless of wether it is an 'inferior' product. Good value is perceived as different things to different people. If someone has downloaded alot of apps off the apple app store then they are more likely to stay with apple. If someone mainly reads ebooks and has used a kiddle for a few years they will likely go for a kindle fire and if someone has been downloading movies like crazy off bit torrent they are probably aren't going to use an apple device.

I personally like apple products, I own a macbook and like how the iphone syncs with it. I love the build qaulity of their devices and the aluminium finish tops plastic FOR ME everyday. But I fully aknowledge that more powerful computers exsist at a cheaper price point and the andriod os for phones has become incredibly powerful in the last year overtaking iOS on many benchmarks.

But guess what? I like using my apple products because they do what I want and I like how they look. I know that might make some Andriod users furious that I'm using 'inferior' devices that in their opinion are overpriced but I don't care.

            Long live variety.

Anonymous, 11 Nov 2012frustrated? hahahaha!! look who is talking!! i am shamed to... moreWhy would i envy your restricted devices that has nothing to offer me? Whats the use of an apple product? i dont get it. I will sit with itunes on a pc to be able to use it? You must be kidding me, theres nothing to envy in an apple product, and affording them is not a problem, i could pay my Note II cash straight up $749 so then i think i can afford an iphone5 at $199. It never occurred to you that we use android because its better and has superior hardware to choose from?

And again, most of all, it has no restrictions and does not depend on itunes to be used. Theres nothing to desire and you think we are jelous, how is it possible to be so ignorant? Your post written in a victorious tone was just pathetic, i truly feel pity for you.

I own a nexus 7 and just got my hands on iPad mini. Well mini looks and feels stunning. Nexus 7 is high in specs but mini is just enough with the provided specs. The screen resolution is good. There is not a big difference between retina display and this one. Navigation is extremely smooth, sound is good and iPad apps are far superior than nexus 7 apps. Overall I am glad I bought this device.

[deleted post]The price argument in my opinion has been argued so badly from both sides. I don't for example, believe that people who buy Ferraris stay at home crying due to unhappiness, at the same time, I wouldn't say someone who bought something due to value, a poor person. Value is not determined by price alone, and at the end of the day, it is determined by the buyer, due to various factors. iOS and Android provide rather different experiences, or very similar experiences, depending on what you look at, and in the end market forces determine the end result. So everyone chill out, buy what you like, and enjoy!

Rams, 11 Nov 2012I am surprised there is no mention of low RAM at 512 MB.If ... moreYes exactly it has only 512 mb hardware is SOOO outdated

This one of overpriced and Main disadvantages shows how terrible this table is for the price the ask....

                              Main disadvantages

                              - Only 512 mb, 7" Android tablets have 1 GB
                              - Mono speakers
                              - More expensive than 7" Android tablets, only $70 cheaper than iPad 2
                              - No Retina display, 162ppi only
                              - Same chipset as iPad 2, now two generations old
                              - iTunes still required for most of the content uploads
                              - Reflective screen struggles outdoors
                              - No standard USB port, Lightning accessories still rare and expensive
                              - No GPS receiver in the Wi-Fi version
                              - No memory card slot
                              - Lack of basic iOS apps - weather, stocks, calculator, voice memos

On page 5 you can see that iPad mini is better than nexus 7 in 3 benchmarks but nexus 7 is better in 3 benchmarks and in drop tests iPad mini is the winner too and the design of iPad mini(aluminium) is very much better the nexus 7 design(plastic).but there is some problems with iPad mini.1-High price.2-lower resolution.3-a bit weaker chipset. But at the end I don't prefer both because they are small and I prefer to have a big tablet and the best choice now is
                                iPad 4.

I have owned a 16G Black WiFi iPad mini for a few days now, and a) The sound quality is superb. b) The screen is fine and all these comparisons with the retina display are a waste of time. The thin form factor, build quality and featherweight design are priceless benefits that make the iPad mini the first tablet that is what all tablets should be like - the only negative being the lack of a high resolution stylus option. But Apple have filed a patent for a stylus technology so perhaps they will release one as an accessory?

I am surprised there is no mention of low RAM at 512 MB.If I am not wrong Nexus 7 and Kindle Fire HD have 1 GM RAM with no inferior hardware, perhaps, with better hardware. The only thing is that they boast 7 inch screen. An 8 inch screen would be a perfect paperback book size making it ideal for e books. Of course, i Pad mini is slimmer and lightweight. But that doesn't stop me craving for more RAM. I am still undecided about what to buy Nexus 7 (because of its monstrous hardware) Kindle Fire HD because of its all round multimedia capabilities with exceptional speakers.

Its unfortunate that apple fans more often have their posts deleted in threads like these, it kind of kills down healthy discussion, several of you always have to resort to using harsh/bad words, and show anger against fair critics.

I guess the anger comes from frustration over the restricted gadgets you own, as you can see we android users are not frustrated and dont easily resort to bad words, see so happy and balanced we are? LoL
