Sony Xperia J review: Junior league

Saw one in the mall today, wow it looks so good, impressive big display for its class, its easy to forget that its underpowered when you see it, its a real beauty. Now i am sure the Xperia J will be a success for sony, its very hard to not chose this over the powerful but unimpressive looking Galaxy Ace 2.

very very super phone, but only disadvantage battery is Quickly heat and weak

bought it for 11 thousand Pesos here in the Philippines and I experienced LAG a day after. I called Sony customer service and was advice to Force stop Apps and do Battery Pull (like quick pull in blackberry) and ofourse it still the same thing. I will buy HTC desire X next week to replace this.

when I play the music n lock the phone or pull down the status bar, there's a short moment of lag in the sound thats being played...does this happrn in other xperia j handsets too??....pliz comment

Nice phone! Very impressive battery backup! Use Converted avc format 854*480 size videos. Real fun for gaming temple run, agent dash,blood and glory,front line commando, bad pigs hd,work without lag, the look is very very stylish!M very happy with it!

I wonder why Sony just create a phone like this where at this time, most midrange phones offers mid to high performance for their phones. While this xperia j is compared to a low end phones.

Thank you gsmarena for saving my money, this review helps me not to buy this phone. I would rather buy a sony ericsson live with walkman than this. The price of this phone here in the Philippines ranges from 11,000 to 12,000 php, at this range, you can buy a deccent midrange android phones. I was disappointed that this phone does'nt take 720p videos and has a problem when playing 720 videos. Another one is the audio quality that you may missed a call in a noisier place.

It is a nice phone, no doubt, but... morenot at all! i am using right now the sony ericsson live with walkman , it is an excellent phone which can open internet tabs as you want , multi task very well , open big games without any problem and handle icS! the chipset is excellent and 512mb of ram is more than enough for it!sony xperia j should have used the same chipset in live with walkman or arc s . 1 or 1.4GHZ scorpion processor with adreno 205 to make everything easier for the phone!not that bad adreno 200 on fwvga!and not cortex a5!!and by the way to all people using it should use android assistant to keep the performance better , do a quick boost if the device is slow to clear some ram and clean cache everyday from tools , quick boost also before every heavy game or heavy browsing because xperia j really needs that! and then you will see by yourself the improvement!

Nice phone for a nice price indeed. As the Xperia U is the same price or cheaper I would bet my left kidney that Xperia J will drop considerably in price soon.
Nice colors and a sound budget buy. Kid sister Christmas Gift?

For Sony the solution is simple, just use the Dualcore Novathor on low-end devices with 1GB RAM and price them slightly lower, you go for volumes on low-end device not profit margin. But on high-end device, that's where the margin should be, and make sure to give proper specs (Quadcore and 2GB RAM).

I am using the Xperia Go. It is a nice phone, no doubt, but the bottle neck is the 512 MB of RAM. Even after startup the memory is taken by about 80% already. Opening a web browser or Facebook brings memory utilization to 100% and the phone starts lagging and stuttering. Even when rooted and all unnecessary apps are removed, it doesn't help much. The processor power would probably be more or less sufficient, but the memory lack is fatal.
Instead of using the same hardware over and over again in dozen of devices and flooding the market with low-class phones, Sony should start using serious hardware. Then they even could charge some more bucks for it instead of competing with other uninspiring devices.
However, there is not much hope. Sony already did the same strategy years before with the Symbian line. Every few months they brought exactly the same hardware in a new housing (P800, P810, M600, P1...) until the invention of the iPhone finally annihilated that product line forever fortunately.
Like others said before, an Android with 512 MB is a no-go!

A beautiful phone that won't tear a hole on your pocket. Gonna be massive volume driver for the Android camp.
The battery life was really impressive too.

Samsung puts efficient hardware in most of its phones but designs suck. Sony makes beautiful and sexy designs but are underpowered. These two OEMs should get their shit together.

As i`ve said before if Sony doesn`t get back to the drawing board and make or come out with gorgeous aesthetic products like back in the 80`s,they will be in deeper trouble.What is with the curvature style with Sony phones.They are in an identity crisis ever since joining up with the Scandinavian Ericsson and parting with them last year.For a start like Apple they should only have one amazing monolith,aluminum,magnezium alloy or some new alloy phone.Thin and beaitiful and with one name only to take them back to their roots and one logo.Sony Vega phone with their dotted logo period.What is all this experia s experia p,t,v all this nonsense crap.They need someone extremely anal,picky like Steve Jobs or myself in their design team who calls the shots.They need a design close to or better that of an Iphone with better specs.They have to get the phone under 130grams at 4.5 inch and under 7mm thin.1080p screen all aluminum or carbon fiber or kevlar casing or some new alloy with monolith design.They could implement transparency perhaps.Sony must have only one expensive phone starting from 650usd like apple.
