26 March 2013
Two phones carrying such a weight of expectations that one would think they’d have no time and energy to worry about each other. The Samsung Galaxy S4 has to outsell the S III and the HTC One is...

I love HTC. Had my htc desire from since it came out and still works perfectly even after many drops and falls. I decided to get an S3....couldn't stand it, changed for a one X+.....YEAH!!! For most samsung lovers, thin, light and plastic is good but I prefer to feel like I am holding something of value considerate how much these phones cost.
Its funny how people go on about SD cards and removable batteries with so much pride, seriously? Stop hindering technology instead we should be for more storage and better batteries, The fact that these phones do so much amazing things and you have to worry about your usage disgusts me. I mean are the no battery production companies out there? In the past few years mobile technology has advanced rapidly but no progress is being made with the most important component of all...the battery!!! No matter how beautiful your 5inc Full HD is, its blank when battery goes. Some genius I know u out there please rescue our batteries from stone age so our smartphones can go atleast 2 days with some good thrashing. Hats off to motorola, waiting for you to get back in the game. I was excited about s4 i thought once samsung had the specs right with s3 they would get the build right with s4....disappointed!!

If i did get the s4 i'd miss the HTC build, zoe, boomsound(I was actually thinking when someone was going to do something about mobile phones awkward speaks placement).

If i did get the htc one the only thing i'd really miss on s4 is multiwindow, definitely not removable batteries or sd card.

HTC puts more efforts in their phone definitely more than samsung, i would know as i repair phones for a living.

Only failure on HTC part is their marketing sucks: SELL THE WHOLE PHONE NOT JUST INDIVIDUAL FEATURES YOU ARE PROUD OF.

#rantout# HTC One for me :)

For the 2gb RAM, S4 is using the faster DDR 3. HTC is only DDR 2.

i am also abit disapointed by the lack of ios and narrow field of view in the s4 .. is that why the video quality is not as good as the htc one??. it looks little more crisp but when taking still picture the S4 is the winner i reckon.

For people that want the samsung but still want wider field of view you can buy a wide angle camera lens for smartphones or other lenses like macro fish eye etc . they are really small and dosn't take mouch space so if you record videos and shoot alot of pictures this is a definitely upgrade you wanna do anyway to your smartphone.

i'm not sure i understand the upscaling or downscaling in the camera comparison where it show the htc one is significantly noisier than the s4 imagine. however, I view the full size image of both side by side on my laptop and i think the htc one is on par with the s4. the s4 color is more vibrant and the htc one color is colder (however appear more natural).

also, the wider field of view of the HTC one is a big plus as you can fit more people into your shot. I have this huge issue everytime trying to take shot of my whole family.

You are wrong regarding S4 speed of taking photo. HTC One is slower than S3, so it is no way near S4.

Below is quoted from a Singapore HTC ONE user (after one month test usage).

                  - Battery life is pretty average. For a heavy user like me, it will not last thru a day without charging. Camera performance is good. It still lose to Samsung S3 in terms of the shuttle speed. It's comparable to iphone 5.

                  - I'll upload photos soon. Auto focus is working as intended. However, tapping the screen will not take the photo and you have to tap the camera button to snap. This is one peeve, plus the fact that it does not have the hardware shutter button. One handed use is pretty hard. While texting and moving my thumb to the top (notification bar), I do risk dropping the phone. No such problem with the s3.

                  - There're some paint "chip" on the body already. Not exactly chip but something you get when you rub metal against other objects. No scratches on the screen yet. And yes, I use the trial set raw.

You can ask him question: http://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/htc-user-group-212/htc-one-thread-formerly-known-m7-4082270-77.html

AnonD-131596, 02 Apr 2013how come the S4 wins the camera round? if you need to take ... moreI disagree

The speed of S4 taking 10 pictures is about the same as htc taking 1. It is fast (S4 Doesn't take 10 seconds to snap 10 photos LOL). 1 second and 1.5 seconds not much different. In order to have only 1, S4 has the option to choose the best among the 10. Isn't that great? Just like the wedding photos, the photographer take as many pictures as he can and let you choose the best to make up the album that has memory that last a life time. The key here is SPEED and CHOICE.

Moreover, htc one 4UP (It actually a 4MP) camera is about 8MP and below camera equivalent. The image background is blur. If you already using a phone with 8MP camera, HTC One's camera definitely is not an upgrade for you. See below review to understand why HTC one loose, as it is a marketing gimmick. They are just giving you the same (8MP and below camera) with a different representation to save cost # http://www.hardwarezone.com.sg/review-htc-ones-camera-tested-updated

We are talking about a flagship phone here. HTC still giving you a 8MP equivalent with a different name. You call that an upgrade or innovation? Especially when comparing with S4's 13MP? If you guys are so happy, I think Samsung better just offer S4 with 8MP. Again somebody will say, hey NO innovation! Just the same as S3. See the point?

S4 is clearly the winner... again.

One will be good for dedicated Sense users.

Others should get the Samsung because it's just the best overall phone still...

One big point that makes Samsung stand tall compares with the rest that most user didn't realize when choosing a mobile is continuous UPDATES for Firmware and Android version.

Samsung keeps updating not only their latest models but their older models too. This is very important. Sadly it is generally lack in other brands.

                        - Galaxy S2 (2 years old) still getting Jelly Bean 4.1.2 update till today.

                        - Galaxy S3 gets the features in Galaxy Note 2 when it launched last year.

                        - Galaxy S3 will also gets the features in Galaxy S4.

Will your 2 years old HTC phone continue to get updated? The answer is NO. Based on HTC history, it only update the latest model, then it moves on.

HTC phones (especially the flag-ship model) shell life is extremely short compare to other brands. This makes HTC phone value drops very fast. No second / resell / trade-in value. How do you feel that your new phone is being replaced so fast with a newer version in just 3 to 4 months, like the HTC Butterfly? Hey! Your phone is out-dated! When out-dated, no premium feel any more. Especially when your friend is holding the newer one and showing off to you.

                        Think twice about HTC.

AnonD-130581, 30 Mar 2013Article for Point 1,2 and 3. http://www.hardwarezone.com.sg... morePoint 1 & 2. Yes, with 13MP, u have choice to downgrade the size whenever u like.. BUT, nobody or maybe just 1-2% people will select lower than 13MP since the phone has 13MP. that is why iphone dont need to select pixel size while in camera mode. my point is, megapixel doesn't affect quality..

Point 3. I dont read the article because I already using it and tested myself with HTC One, Butterfly, Motorola RAZR, iPhone.. in low light, seriously pics taken with One is absolutely awesome, much much lesser noise compared to other mentioned above.

Point 4. HTC One is just what i need because more than 50% of the S4 new features, I don't use it.. such as air gesture, s-voice, s-translator and more.. :)

Were the HTC photo's taken with the new camera firmware? I hope not because I think they look kind of bad.

The HTC one photos on a couple of other sites look heaps better but they do have phones with the new firmware.

AnonD-29603, 01 Apr 2013Sure, the Samsung wins but not by much. I'm also disappoint... moreWell, Samsung usually has all the best features of all it's rivals combined as they are "inspired" by and incorporate the best features of others! For example, the glove n nail usability of the S4's screen is "inspired" by the Lumia 920 screen! So from the perspective of a potential power buyer, I reckon the Samsung phones usually provide the best value 4 money as u get most of the sought after features in a single package! However, I'm shocked how Samsung put in a lens with such a narrow FOV and both stills n vids come out wth such a narrow perspective, which is even drastically smaller than the S3! They should have provided better OIS, vid HDR and a wider lens instead of just bumping up the megs (13MP is quite cool, but I'd take a wider lens with a 8MP shooter any day). Most of the benchmarks released so far r for the S4 variant with the Snapdragon 600 chip! The S4 with the Exynos 5 is the real deal and should blitz every other device by a huge margin and will be in a class of it's own both in performance n battery efficiency!
