Nokia Lumia 1020 hands-on: First look

11 July 2013
The Nokia Lumia 1020 makes them all proud - it has the big sensor (even if, at 1/1.5", it's slightly smaller than the one inside the 808 PureView) the OIS and a proper flash. Update: hands-on and camera UI...

Please use manual settings when shooting a video for this purpose.
This focus hunting and brightness variations are ridiculous. It takes few more clicks and some experience but you get a decent and usable material. Thank you.

4500 stander, 12 Jul 2013Wakeup nokia.... There are new technology called android ... moreAnd here guys, we have an example of an android fanboy. Wake up you say? Where are the other 41mp camera phones? With Nokia. Quad core you say? Just because android NEEDS quad core to run 'lag free' doesn't mean windows phone 8 does as well... And move to android? Nokia would have almost no chance against the likes of Samsung on android. HTC produced the best android device and look at them, quaterly losses... You want a good phone, switch to Windows Phone

Why no 8MP mode this time?
Or well, I get why, cause reviewers set it to 8MP all the time, for their tests, while the 5MP mode was supposed to be better (even dpreview did this), but, really they should unlock the possibilities to choose more resolutions, but with clear warnings.

And why is it "full resolution" + 5MP, or 5MP, from what I could see in the videos I've seen there were only two modes... so why no Full resolution only mode?

And can the PureView process be carried out afterwards?
Then we could simply go around taking full resolutions pictures and performe the pureview process later, instead of having to wait after taking the picture.

And really they should open up for raw fotage, and make a windows raw converter with built in pureview algorithms, so that one can do the pureview thing with 1020 pictures in the computer when converting raws, instead.

Sure, it's this or the Honami, and at this point I'm still more intrigued by this. But I badly miss BT4.0 and USB on the go with storeage support.
i would partner it with an 8" windows tablet (just waiting for the new atoms or those core super low voltage processors, so I'll have to wait for holliday times), so I wont suffer from the missing apps, at all.. and 8" is more suited for my needs for mobile computing.
But on vaccations USB-otg with storage support (or micro SD slot) would be really usefull for freeing up space for more pictures (I dont intend to bring tablet with me on vaccations).

Looks like the camera interface is kinda sluggish. As usual the WP8 is great, not boring but its ecosystem is killing it.
I own several WP8 units, but this 1020 doesn't excite me.

AnonD-152574, 12 Jul 2013You mean old powerhungry crappy os called android? My SGS 3 loses approximately 10% of the battery charge in 6 hours of moderate use(checking e-mails, 30 mins of gaming, etc). I can see the details in the History details of the battery. In standby(without power save enabled)it loses like 5% in 12 hours.
