Sony Xperia Z1 review: Walking on water

19 September 2013
Sony’s got a plan and sticking to it – while other makers pile software feature upon feature, the Japanese focus on their historical strengths, such as beautiful, durable design, photographic excellence and display tech. That in short is...

You said the box so small, and Sony don't include the headset.. I was just wondering if your review unit is different from others. (Or model)Anyway phone arena has a "headset with clip" with their review unit...:)

Thanks for the great review, even if you dissuaded from dumping my current Lenovo K900 for the Z1. :)

But I have to disagree with your beauty statement: The iPhone still has the best designed smartphone hardware and the best fit and finish, without a question.

The HTC and the Z1 are undoubtedly the best among the Androids, but the iPhone is the best of the best.

Wish gsmarena would do a review of the Lenovo K900 -- it has the widest aperture of any phone I am aware of, an Intel processor and a stainless body.

Plus it's the first Chinese phone which ca be put in the "flagship" category, so I'd think people might be interested.

AnonD-159698, 20 Sep 2013I dont want to raise any questions here as I have been a GS... moreYes, we already know that Z1 can take amazing photos, clearly this is a defective unit, i guess the lens isnt mounted 100 parallel to the sensor. You dont see any of this in for example the quite impressive Z1 photo of Petronas Twin Towers.

GA, your low light samples are jokes at best, very worthless, please work out a consistent low light strategy to include in your future reviews.

I dont want to raise any questions here as I have been a GSM Arena follower for a while now. But one of my friends back in India got his new Z1 just couple of days back and he sent me some pictures from that. It was absolutely stunning and was miles ahead in quality as compared to pictures posted here on GSM arena. The pictures were much much better than my S4

                              - Looks like the unit that GSM arena used had some serious issues as it was a demo unit
                              - Z1 does have HDR mode. It is surprising to see why did the GSM arena tester did not found it.
                              - Strangely regarding the battery results, the guy who bought it informed that even after pretty heavy use of phone whole day that was 3 hours of video playback, 3 plus hours browsing and calls he still had 30% batter on his phone after 12 hours. which i think is pretty decent. That is infact better than S4 for sure as I have been using it for a while now.

I would request GSM arena to please review the whole camera and battery section again with a new unit or production unit as lot of result you have posted is not accurate.

The lens on this camera is flawed. The 1/3 right side of the lens creates blurry/soft pictures. I would like to verify that by flipping the camera over and taking a picture again of the same area. If the blurry/soft is on the 1/3 left side, it could be a hardware issue.

Hopefully this is an isolated issue on this Z1 model, as I am seriously considering this, the LG G2, or the next Nexus 5.

Rubbish battery life kills this stone cold dead. Sony are idiots for not addressing this. When will companies learnt hat we want phones to last several days not several hours (or in the Sony's case, several minutes).
