Just forgot to mention ... C170 uses unfortunatly the Samsung standard menu system, which is about the worst on the market. A simple task like reading and deleting an SMS involves the use of most buttons and menus in the phone. However - this is not too pronaunced on the C170 compared with the higher end phones with more features and options. Despite this draw down, compared with the slim, light and nice phone, its still a winner and recommendable.
SAMSUNG - MAKE A NEW MENU SYSTEM FOR YOUR PHONES PLEASE !

Baught this phone two weeks ago. Finaly a one-stop phone. Very nice design and very slim. If you dont need MP3 player and gaming then this phone is perfect. Was in a dark room the other day without light, the C170 backligt lit the room just like that.
Positive:
Slim with vey nice design and build quality
Backlight can work as a lamp
No bulshit easy operating
Speakers loud and clear
Negative
Clock text in calendar wallpaper very small
Alerts take a bit too long to dissapear
Time from keypad unlock to operational a bit too long

hav bought the cell, for me its a ok or good phone, like what more can u expect at this price. atleast they are giving a slim phone.
i wanted to ask u somthng abt the ph book of this cell. well u see multiple entries are possible that i know, but how are the nos. sorted in this ph. Like if i enter 4 diff. nos., how can i keep the no. i use most at the top, for eg. in nokia u hav the default no. option. i tried in many ways but all get jumbled. its that the order of nos. is ok when i feed, but gets reset whenever i restart the ph.
plz help...

as far as srk is concerned, dont know abt others, but i am not fan of srk, ok he is good, but am not a fan.

Group SMS is not available. But sending SMS is not that tough. Whenever I need to send an SMS to multiple recipients -- on very rare occasions -- I perform a tiny "circus". I use the SOS Message feature.
Menu > 5. Messages > 6. SOS Messages > 1. Sending Options > 1. Sending SOS > 1. On
Menu > 5. Messages > 6. SOS Messages > 1. Sending Options > 2. Recipients > only 5 entries
Menu > 5. Messages > 6. SOS Messages > 1. Sending Options > 3. Repeat > 1. 1 Time
But first of all, get the total concept and technique from the following menu.
Menu > 5. Messages > 6. SOS Messages > 1. Sending Options > 5. SOS Help
The SOS Message Recipients can easily be altered by adding saved phonebook entries. Restricted to 5 total recipients. Works like a charm for me. Albeit, I am noway a heavy-duty SMSer.
:: Caller Group ::
This piece does support caller group functions.
Phonebook > 4. Edit Group >
1. Call Ring Tone ( a total of 7 tones )
2. SMS Tone ( total 8 tones. here Off, Vibration, Single Beep are not available )
3. Graphic ( total 10 graphics )
4. Group Name ( total 10 caller groups )
Dear Rahul, hope I could satisfy your queries. But now, you need to annihilate a doubt of mine. Shah Rukh Khan uses (promotes) Nokia and so I thought all Rahuls (SRK fans) too use Nok. Your being interested in C170 strikes as an utterly strange phenomenon. Say it isn't so? LOL :)) PEACE !

Can u plz tell whether this phone has sms group sending or distribution list option. wheyher its easy to send smses from this phone, as i send a lot of smses.
one more thing whether it caller groups, to separate callers rings, for eg. 1 for family, 1 for friends, etc.

This is regareding the call records, the phone doesnt displays 30 of dialled, missed and recieved but it only displays 20 of each.

It is mentioned that ringtone is 16 but there is only 7 rintones, 30 dialled calls, 30 recieved calls, 30 missed calls, but there is only 20, why this cheating with customer, no detailed information in user guide , user guide is really useless.

There is nothing wrong with your cell.
They made it that way to save battery.
My dad's N73 and HTC TyTN do exactly the same.
My SE z610i shows abs nothing on the cover, only activates the screen when I touch a side key.
My best friend has a C170 and the screen goes blank, too.
It is the way they make mobiles nowadays...

i bought the mobile today itself... the hying that bothers me is the display goes blank after the keypad gets locked... the cell doesn't switch off but nothing is visible on the display... to activate the display I have to again press a key... the display then appears for few seconds and then it again goes blank...
is it a problem with all the C170 or anyhting is wrong with my cell...

First and foremost this is a BASIC phone. It is geared to people that primarily uses their cell phone for short messagging (SMS) or calling. However, this phone comes with a quality FM Radio and WAP. WAP is like phone internet, it allows you to check the weather and read the latest news. WHO IS THIS PHONE SUITABLE FOR? If you are a high school student or generally someone that wants a no frill phone on the basis of basic level comunication. You have to give SAMSUNG full points for delivering a highly pleasant looking cell phone.
POSITIVES:::::
Aesththically pleasant. Not the slimmest phone around but indeed quite slim.Its figure will indeed attract attention. Be prepared to be asked- Can I have a look at your phone please?
Budget: While it is locked to a Prepaid service (OPTUS)this phone cost only $79 Australian dollars.
Easy to use key pad: I am a SPEED TYPER when comes to SMS so in my case I am able to type with ease and at my usual speed. The key pad materials are of reasonable quality.
Easy to use FORMAT: Motorola F3 only lasted two hours with me before I find a bin and discarded it. It is NOT a user friendly phone. C170 is poles apart. Easier to use like Nokia. All you have to do is to scroll down to the requeted menu for your needs.
Easy to READ and WRITE? Absolutely a pleasure. Words appeared to be reasonably large and numbers appeared in multi colours. Worthwhile meantioning is that numbers apears LARGE.
Sounds and Chimes: Basic but I like it. I promise you WILL not hide and cringe from embarrasement if someone happens to call you in a crowd! Polyphonic tones. Ring and message tones are loud and clear. RADIO is of good quality however there is no loudspeaker so you will have to use a earpiece.
Acceptable screen resolution- NOT overly pixellised but it's clear.
NEGATIVES:::::
Wallpaper leaves little to be desired for.
NO MMS capability. (could be carrier dependent)
No Shortcut button. Everything is done via the long and proper way!
OVERALL IMPRESSION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am a guy that is well verse with cell phone trends and technology. I own a NOKIA E50 and a Sony K750i so for me to invest in a BASIC phone like the SAMSUNG C170 is a long shout but HONESTLY I did not regret it one bit. In FACT for a $79 Pre paid phone comes with a currency converter, I am blown over. So on the scale of everything I give it 10/10 (1= Find the BIN and 10= Made in HEAVEN) People might disagree with my generosity but bear in mind this is a CHEAP and BASIC phone so judge fairly and accordingly.

its network coverage is not so good in india but also menu is not nice and not nice themes(only one)
wallappers is not good,its sound on speaker on fm is brilliant.
