I've decided to buy a D500E approximately a month ago and have been using it ever since, mainly as a modem for my laptop. The phone itself looks stylish, I have to admit - the screen is relatively big and this hidden temperature sensor feature I've discovered in it looked pretty cute and all. A swiss-knife for slacking in the army when you don't have anything better at hand. ;)
The negative parts I found in these phones are these:
# No bandwidth use counter - would be very useful to track how much do I use the phone for internet, both on phone and laptop and this feature I had in a Siemens S45 plain does not exist here.
# Inability to natively transfer JAVA games from cellphones or computer - you /can/ do this with a little effort and some freely available PC software, but this tactic was not even meant to be publicly known.
# Unstable Operating System - I've noticed that when I use the phone as a modem via BlueTooth, the phone occasionally crashes, dropping my net connection - the device simply resets on its own! Also found that happening when using some other features it has - quite irritating.
# Restrictive alarms and SMS sounds - you only get a few built-in sounds and may not choose neither MIDI/WMF or MP3 music instead of those - pity.
# The music played when you enter the Java game selection menu can't be disabled unless your phone is in SILENT mode. Not as flexible if you want minimal sound effects on your phone or the music is undesired at the time.
# Periodical random disconnections from GPRS - unlike the Siemens S45 model, I found this one periodically just dropping my GPRS connection - pops up "Disconnected." message box and after that, my laptop drops the link with the internet - very annoying! I'm not sure whether it's because of BlueTooth vs. Infra-Red, but the older model seems more stable internet-wise.
Overall, I like the phone's capability of taking high-resolution photos, wish it could do the same with video recording. Its flash can be pretty much used as an effective flash light - it can illuminate an entire room! Battery power seems lasting enough so far, even when surfing the net for a while.
To make a long story short: D500 is a nice model, but is somewhat unstable...

The Samsung D500 is an innnovative and reliable phone. It marks a break-through for slide-type phones and is aesthetically and functionally sound. A great phone.

I want to buy this phone, and I need to know if one can transfer sms messages from the D500 to a computer via bluetooth, so they can be stored and kept for good? Is this possible?
Cheers, michael.

GOOD MORNING.
GOOD AFTERNOON.
GOOD EVENING.
The Samsung D500 is really a GREAT handset!!
The menu and full-colour screen, combined with an excellent camera and extensive memory definitely a WINNING combination !! :)
But, how does one set up email access on this handset?
What price (in Rands) is a car-charger (plugs into cigarrette-lighter)usually?
How many batteries are supposed to come with
Samsung D500?
Does the cellphone have to be switched off for 30 minutes to be PROPERLY CHARGED or doesn't it make any difference if the phone is off?
All help (and answers) would be greatly appreciated.
Regards
Deon
