      Hi Jason,

did your phone accept SIM card at the beginning?

Generally, "insert SIM card" message means that phone cannot register SIM card correctly, maybe data transfer between phone and SIM gets corrupted.

This is often caused poor SIM card contacts (those springs which connect from phone to SIM).

I don't exactly remember right now, but isn't there a slot for SIM under the battery cover, at the very bottom of the phone? If you can look inside that slot and check if every six springs look ok? (might be impossible to look, though...)

Anyway, this sounds hardware thing, not software.

In this case firmware means practically same as software. So maybe if you want e.g. to use specific applications tailored for operators, you may find great difficulties.

I am sure that hardware is also slightly mofied between US and Ch versions for optimal performance in dedicated region (frequency bands optimized a bit differently, etc). I think d908 might have worse network coverage in US than US d900.

With no doubt it is possible to use d908 in US, but I would strongly recommend you to buy d900 from states, if you want to play safe.

JOANNE. Good point re Pop up's. Annoying sometimes, but I am not aware of a way of hiding them.

does anyone know how to save files (videos) directly onto the memory card using pc studio? Unlike my phone, pc studio seemingly does not detect a memory card onto which I can send my larger files. The only options are: images, video, music, sound, and other file. How do I download large video files onto my phone? I'd be grateful for any help. Tks.

                    >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Unfortunately, you cannot put files on your memcard via the PC Studio software.

What you have to do is plug in your USB cable and then on the phone put the USB in 'mass storage' mode. Your PC will automatically assign it a logical drive letter. i.e. D, E. F. etc.

Then copy the files to or from your memcard using the USB cable.

Oh, and everytime you plug the USB cable in and out it automatically reverts back to modem mode.

So when your files are on the memcard then you can copy or move them via the phone itself.

You can view movies or files directly from memcard. But when taking a video you cannot save it directly to memcard.

                    Hope this helps

                          Q: Document may be truncated
A: The problem would occur in D900, the software is only a document viewer. It can’t show all details of your document. In other case, open a .doc file with notepad, some functionality would show correctly in notepad. It is not because of software outdated.
(p/s: I have already answer your question before this)

Q: However today when changing the wallpaper from the Settings menu, it would not allow me to select any pictures from my Downloaded or Favourite folders.
A: In order to change your wallpaper, you have to change the wallpaper from Theme to Normal. There is no such fault that u complained.

                          To Kammi:
Q: i heard that there is alot of problems, very poor battery life and the screen cracks? how common are these problems?
A: First of all, there is NO a lots of problem from this phone. The battery life is average. The USER FAULT of LCD crack is 0.2%. E.g: 25K unit, 43 cases of LCD cracked.

                            -Sushi

Thanks so much for the helpful info. You certainly know a hell of alot more about this phone than my local Samsung dealer. My model is indeed the d908 (Chinese) version you mentioned so does that mean that it is useless in the US? You mentioned that I might not be able to use it to it's full potential back in the states but what does that mean? Btw-what is firmware? Thanks again

                              Also,
I am currently a D600 user with a Picsel Viewer problem... I recently downloaded a PDF file from Samsung's Global Download Centre. The PDF file is a English D600 Instruction Manual. My D600 opens the first 2 pages correctly then displays an error message: Document may be truncated. Around 60 more pages are opened blank (white). The PDF file consists of around 110 pages... I was wondering whether any D900 users have the same problem? Can you please download a D600 English PDF Manual from Samsung's Global Download Centre and see whether you have this problem?

Thank you for your assistance... :)

                                For TY and Dirk....
The Samsung D900 Chinese edition (or known as D908 I think) is theoretically compatible with American Mobile Carriers... But the catch is the fact that D908 and D900 (American) operate with different firmwares, thus you may not be able to use the Chinese phone to its full potential. To check whether your phone is Chinese, go into idle mode (press the POWER KEY shortly once), and press in the code *#1234#. A message will pop up. If the first few letters start with D900, then I am sure your phone is capable in America. If it begins with D90X (X being any number), this indicates a Chinese firmware, thus meaning your phone may not work in America...

                                Hope this info helps...

I got my d900 in the USA and i know for a fact that t-mobile and cingular work with the phone. I don't think it has a specific mobile carrier, but if it does i know that t-mobile and cingular for sure work with the phone.
