@Rajesh
Nice, brilliant, and accurate assessment and rating Raj.I've been afraid of this kind of analytical rating. Hope everyone will not start giving the phone 20 out of 10 after reading your assessment.

I rate it at a 9......only thing I would like is WIFI. The rest is very good ......camera is good for everyday things. For professional type work buy a standalone camera of at least 6 MP.

The thing I use the most is the A2DP stereo bluetooth headphones.

    Display is fantastic.

SMS I rarely use...........its easier to just call.

Built solid (not as solid as the D500 or D600 but still good.

Battery life is not good but I have a spare I keep charged and also a car charger..

Nice comments Dirk and Captain Toad.
Would you now like to rate the phone on the scale of 1 to 10 in this forum?

        Dr.Adedoyin,

I would have been the first person to rate it if I could give it 10.:-D
But when I rate it, I should consider other competent models also. D900 is a fantastic phone and I love it, but I know well that it is not the best phone in the world. I am skipping the overall rating process as it is not easy, rather I shall rate each individual criteria in a 1-10 scale.....(for a change)

        Design/construction/appearance: 10
(Beautiful slim slider with optimum dimensions, good sliding mechanism, good material selection to make it as light as 85g,)

        Ergonomics : 9.5
(less 0.5, because of the problems with the last row in numeric keypad, while long texting)

        Functions/customization : 5
        (compared to nokia, SE)

        Modern/innovative/intelligent features : 10

        Popular features : 4 !
(This is where I rate it below average, no themes, no customization of sms tones, no profiles, no direct recording to mem card...)

        Camera-photography : 7
(Comparing with other 3mp cameras and considering the performance in dark and in capturing moving objects)

        Camera-video recording : 9.5
(QVGA/CIF upto 18fps in MPEG-4 format. how many of us have noticed that most of the well known models record only in cheap 3gp format? They claim to record with 30fps or so; but in 3gp !! And regarding the video size, even SE-K800 record only small videos -QCIF !)

        Music/ring tones through phone: 6.5
        (compared to SE phones)

        Music through headphones : 9.5

        Connectivity(usb/bluetooth) : 9.5

        Networking/wap/EDGE : 9.5

        Java : 7
(GPS software-mgmaps and opera mini works good, but the JSR-75 interface is missing ? So some useful applications like moby explorer not supported. Also limited memory for java)

Contacts storage and management : 9
(1000x4=4000 numbers+fax no.+e-mail+notes etc is not bad. Also fields can be changed- for example you can have 4 'office' numbers of a single contact- and default number may be changed)

        Messaging : 6
(Just above average, in my view)

        (Against-)being slow/freezing/virus attacks etc : 9
        (very comfortable compared to nokia)

        Battery : 7/10
(Compared only to phones of this segment and those having such bright and clear display. Some people compare with, say, nokia 2610's battery and criticise D900's battery !)

        Accessories/enhancements : 10/10
(A lot of them are there and all works excellent. TV-out cable, WEP 200 bluetooth headset, Bluetooth stereo headset, foldable speakers for music, 3.5mm jack, external battery charger, etc etc)

        ..............and.....

        ......DISPLAY : 11 out of 10
[excuseme for this last rating; I can't but rate it below this ! :) ]

          aleX;

the cover will not pale (I'm talking about the whole black model, not the one shown in this page)
It can't play wma, but you can easily convert them to mp3 and upload to phone using PC Studio software.
          Yes, it can play h.264
          Yes, it sync with outlook

            To Captain Toad.

I also love my D600 which my wife has now. Both phones have A2DP which even the Apple Iphone doesn't have.

Perhaps people in the USA don't know yet about bluetooth stereo headphones which are brilliant to use with Samsung phones.

I think some of the comments on here are from people buying the phone purely on it's looks. I switched up from a D600 very recently and I love the D900. It's everything the D600 was (which I also loved) and some very nice extras (camera-wise) with some of the annoyances of the D600 taken away.

For those complaining that "it's pretty but average" or "it looks ok but it doesn't do what I want" - buy a phone based on it's features, not how cool or slim it looks!!!

I bought it 'cos of the reasons above and also that I wanted a better camera than I had. And that's exactly what I got.

can someone tell me does the cover color pales after long use?
and does it play wma/h.264 file formats?
why does it use USB 1.1 not 2.0?
should i choose this or other u600?
                can it sync with outlook?
does battery really works up to 6 houres?
                thank you

Scale from 1 to 10...hhmmmm i'll give it 7/10. Owned it for 6 months, so far dropped once only (3ft range) and still functioning.

Only down side is the batt which it's only able to last me 2 to 2.5 days as usual with 20-30min of calls together with 30SMS perDay. To squeeze out more from the batt, set the Brightness to minimum, Band Selection to single band GSM (according to your country network provider) and also disable the Vibration alert mode, this may help it to last 2.5 to 3.5 days depend on your usage.

Second downside is its sliding mechanism has started to give me tiny creaking sound and also alittle bit loosen (tear n wear facts for all sliders).

                  That's all folks! Cheers!

I have had a D600 and D900 but there is one thing I wish Samsung would put in their phones..............WIFI.........guess the providers have too much clout and don't want us to SKYPE free calls worlwide via HOTSPOTS.

                            No FM on D900,no problem.
                            Helps your battery live longer!
If you need radio go for D900i.
I also like that steel edge cover of D900i,but that design is not available for D900 ;-(

I think the D900 is a great phone, one problem some company's eg. orange say the phone has a fm radio but the guide provided with the phone does not mention a fm radio. does the samsung D900 have an fm radio?

Sorry about your wrong choice mick, but D900 is good enough for my general use. I think we should try and look on the bright side of things. I give this phone 8.5

P.S. Rajesh should not vote because i know he'll give the phone a 10 and that will spoil our graph. Desidude should also try not to vote pls.

Don Chishut, i work with computers (programming, design)... i love inovations in ewerything... so that you know with who you talking.
D900, i hawe it (2 moonts) i was thinking IT IS PERFECT, but... it's MAKEUP (commercial) slim, 3M camera, 60MB ram, another memory slot, open's PDF, WORD, video files... la la la. Beside that, other phones have more inventive/LOGICAL/FUNCIONAL softver, shortcuts... (ex. when you need to chose the number for sent SMS --- procedure is HA HA HA... 5 - clicks MAN!)
I was expect much more from this phone IN EVRY WAY but...
                                        Im use'it, i'am satisfay ... BUT ...
                                        It could be much better!
And the battery ... i hate phones withs losey "autonomy", everithing beneath 3day is SHEET for me becose i travel a lot!
D900 can barely run two and a half days, WITH average use!
I wait somme better phone model ... i'm gonna change it!

Small compensation for buying this phone(price not small) is that everywone
saing WOW, NICE LOOKING PHONE, SLIM, 3M camera ... get'it ... But they don'tnow that beside THAT it'is AN EXPENSIVE AVERAGE PHONE!

In a scale from 1 to 10, i give 7 (in compersion with other phones. Lower cost phones have much more functional solutions in evry way).

                                        That's ONLY MY OPINION!
I'M NOT AVERAGE GUY, who use the phone only for lisening MP3, send MMS, take a picture from it; camera ...
I need something else, maybe this phone not for the type like mee.
I think I WAS WRONG IN MY CHOICE!
