Don't see what is "stupid" , it was merely announced as a product in February

To be honest, you shouldn't be so critical about the phone untill you've seen and used it.

The iPhone and this phone don't do the same things so you can't directly compare them. I had a P1 before, and I'm looking at this as a replacement. My biggest concern however is Vodafones crap data package, of only 120Mb a month. This is crap... Compared to Three's £5 for 1gb.

I've briefly played around with the phone, it feels a bit plasticy but it is actually very solid and really nice to use. The phone does look and feel better than it look in the picture. The phone isn't as good as I thought it would be, but it isn't crap or stupidly expensive like the iPhone. Wait for 2nd gen iPhone?

My biggest concern is it's support for 3rd party applications? And on the topic of wifi, if Vodafone weren't so crap and gave a better data add on we wouldn't need the wifi. 3.6MB/s speed is good enough and better availability than wifi.

        -It has a 3mp camera.
-Document viewer (ive tried .doc, .xls, .pdf, .txt, .ppt)
-plays mp4 files (432x240). im sure it will play other video files but i have not tried.
-my phone came with preinstalled google maps and youtube app. ive also tried opera mini and google mail app, both works fine.

This can't be a smartphone because there is no keypad anywhere, it has to be a PocketPC. it looks like a bad (and late)attempt to copy the iphone.

Boy, no WiFi kills this one for me, I'm afraid. Too bad! Would've been a good one.

Just to rectify that that last comment slightly as I work for Vodafone. There is NO data charge for downloads on MusicStation, its just the 1.99 per week...

Interesting first impressions. Am surprised if the codec support is as bad as you say as I heard it had the full whack when it comes to codecs. Mobile TV quality is always rubbish - it's a low-res transmission being stretched onto a hi-res screen so can't hold that against the phone. Lack of rear speaker disappointing but I'll get over that. MusicStation is most definitely cool although I think Vodafone need to launch an unlimited download service for this to work - I am assuming we still get charged for data on top of the £1.99/week.

Don't have much sympathy for anyone wishing to view Excel docs etc - even if Nokia do offer this sort of functionality, this isn't a smart phone and I am confident 3rd party apps will take care of that need anyway in due course. If Excel viewing is a dealmaker for buying a Nokia, you should be looking at the blackberry shelf although this spec is worth noting nevertheless.

The issues that actually concern me are those that howardforums - ie poor mp3 interface, reception & battery life and a load of irritating quirks in the interface. I'd be keen to know more about this sort of issue before I buy one but if unless some more balanced feedback emerges, this phone looks set to be the 2nd touch screen phone to be rushed onto the market at the expense of key functionality.

                          How is the video resolution?
                          VGA 30fps or QVGA?

had this phone for 2 days and i am very pleased i have the option to return it to the store within 14 days.
Having read so many different specifications for this phone i really didnt know what to expect when i got it home.
i have seen on the vodafone site that is expandaable up to 8gb JOW. Apparently the phone is 100mb and supports a 2gb card?
the user manual is very very poor. It comes only with a Vodafone simple manual and this tells you nothing.
For instance what video files does it play? I have tried WMV. AVI. MPEG4. 3G and none played???? ny nokia N80 played everything.
Dont get me wrong, its a fantastic phone but i think it needs a quick firmware release.
the sound is not good at all for music and vids, mainly coz there is no rear speaker. I tried intanet TV and although the speed was great the picture quality was rubbish. not sure if this is the phone or the content as i have never tried mobile TV before.
one fantastic thing its got going is the vodafone music thingy. £1.99 per week and download as many tunes as you like. Its really fast. Its a shame that the mp3 interface is rubbish. I really wanted to get the N95 but craved a touchscreen.
this really needs 3rd party applications, does anyone know if this is likely?
another thing it wont connect with my GPS unit. I wanted big touchscreen so i could view vids n stuff, I cant cos the formats wont play?
The sound is bollocks through the speaker.
Thought it had 3.5gb memory, its only 100mb.
i knew it was only 3mp cam so thats ok.
i really wanted to use it to view excel docs and word but it does not seem to have a document viewer at all.

right enough for now. i will post a full review when i get i play with it more and speak to vodafone.

my advice is to hang on a while until you know what this phone actually does.

if you dont want or crave a touchscreen like i did, i would go for the N95 8 gig phone, it does it all apart from the touchscreen and it feels a bit plasticy.

So no wifi, and only 120mb a month on the vodafone webpackage in UK(you pay £ 1 a day, if you go over you monthly allovance), thats a deal breaker for me.
But other than that the phone looks nice. Had it just had a better webpackage or wifi, and an OS that would allow a community to develop 3rd party apps, then it could be a major seller.

@ waqas, can you get the web browser to use the whole screen in landscape mode i.e. no up/down or return arrows on the right hand side?

I found another F700 review here:
                                        http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=1281190

Also, I managed to try the F700 for a little while today and I’m sorry to say that I wasn’t impressed. This is the phone that I was waiting for for a very long time (although as the lack of decent software and the lack of a decent OS has become apparent I have gone rather cool on it).

I’ll have to try it again another day when I have more time.
