Yeah so , i bought this phone recently at Rs. 10500 ( 236USD ). Samsung 551 is a very nice phone considering its value for price . i wanted to post the cons first which is really irritating that its battery life is really low indeed . even at home when my Wi-fi is on battery life is about 6-8hours . my previous nokia phone could last a day atleast . my advice is turn on wi fi / edge / 3G only when needed . it also has some software problems . i downloaded some apps from android market but when i restarted the phone they disappeared ( though they were still there ) . it started hanging little bit, but on pressing the center button it works fine . it does not support live wallpaper but someone on youtube.com has uploaded a video how to do it . the screen's resolution is little low .
after reading these cons maybe you would change your mind of buying this phone but actually the phone is amazing, you'll get used to the cons ( except for battery thing ) . slider keyboard is comfrtable and soft . using it is very easy . gingerbread version update should be there . looks are good . its very glossy . no flash but i think its useless . 3mp camera but i think evryone has a digicamera these days . notification bar is good . touch is like the one in iphone . UI is nice .thats all i remember right now . if you have a low budget and want a phone like this ( with slider qwerty and capacitative touchscreen with android ) and you are little patient about phone . its a thumbs up for you .

i am using this phone from past 3 months its awsome . i believe that phone has some negative aspects like
low battery
slow processor
lags
etc
but believe me they are true from one .
phone only lacks its battery while using constant internet while isf u play games constantly for 1-2 hours only 10 to 15 % battery reduction is there.
processor is good for this price.
its value for money phone.

i bought this phone 2 minths ago.
and believe me its value for money.
those people who are ceying foul over low processor speed should buy galaxy s2 coz this phone isnt a gaming spot. its a very good starting android phone.
i saw people facing a llot of problem.
1. the preinstalled browser is slow n crap dolwnload a new one from market i recommend ucbrowser. i am gettin speeds upto 100kbps on 3G network without a 3G recharge.
2. you can always do away unneccesary tasks by the handy taskmanager. close ur wifi and uncheck data enabled and switch to 2G saves a lot of battery.
3. it has only 160mb internal memory well i recommend u to download app to sd pro.. it converts the files so that they can be transferred to sd card.
4. you can run java apps n games by using jbed emulator.
5. as gingerbread update is most likely not coming i would recommend rooting after ur warranty expires.
6. u can dowload a document viewer for free like document to go.

7. video call supported by 3rd party clientslike tango.

It's a very bad phone. Poor camera, poor battery backup, very slow net and many more faults.. Dont buy this phone. Time and money waste!

i want to buy this phone but bit confused. Shall i go with galaxy 3 or 551 which is the best and is there any problem in upgrading from android 2.1 to 2.2 please suggest me as i really like 551 but have fear of performance and it also does not have document reader and some more features like galaxy 3.
