Anyone who wants a small phone who is reading this should contact Samsung's customer support and kindly indicate to them that it's in their interest to produce a compact budget phone for people who would otherwise go for the Pixel 6a or something from another manufacturer that isn't so big. Tell everyone you know to do so as well.

I am looking for a replacement for my A12 Samsung. Is the UI of Samsung phones still fussy and the colors kinda washed-out?

The design is the only redeeming factor this phone has, and you have to pick between a slower but less prone to heating D700 and a faster but way hotter Exynos.
For the same price, the base Redmi Note 12 offers an ultrawide, IP53 rating, a way better display and charging twice as fast, and above all a great chip across the world, not just in a few, select regions.

Android 13 practically doesn't need more resources than 12 on One UI and 6GB is enough for moderate user even for not too distant future. Plus UI should be lighter here. (no idea how much tho) Still I'd avoid buying 4GB in 2023 especially on (generally) heavier skin, unless it's for a ligh user. User making wrong decisions is the one should be blamed. Long term support is mostly criticized by those who can only dream of proper support on their chinese phone. But it's normal to get it with product unlike cheapo brands creating e-waste people need to buy more often, while we actually need to do the opposite for the planet. Though weaker phones handle them worse. Namely E1330 isn't bad for the class (tho Exynos:-/, the rest suits the product. All it takes is to get 6GB for decent price or pick a better phone coz maybe this (any SoC) is bit too low range for heavier user, I wouldn't ask too much from it.

My Android phone keeps getting bigger when my arthritis is getting worse! I don't need a grand expensive phone, and I'm expecting the "planned obsolescence" every few years. Why can't I get a device that fits my hand?

Why won't Samsung cater to budget customers who like small/compact phones that don't tire their hands and fit into their pockets. Samsung used to make phones like the A10e and A20e. Now all the budget phones are clunky and massive. Only the S series gets a small option.

I wish there was a smaller version of the A23 5G or A14 5G called the “A23e” or “A14e”. Maybe if enough people ask Samsung, they’ll realize there’s a market/customer base for it and money to be made.

Android keeps on getting more and more intensive with time, the Android 13 for example is estimated to NEED 2GB of RAM only to boot up, with no other background/foreground processes running, around 8 to run adequately.
Just 1 year earlier, the latest Android 12 needed just 1.5GB to boot, and 6 to run adequately (In google's own words).
Samsung promised 2 years of Android, so by the time they roll 15 out, this'll barely run anything, and it's not Samsung's fault to an extent, it's just that the industry moves fast, but the fact that Samsung barely put out anything competitive in their lower end offerings makes the industry, in contrast, move even faster.
