Samsung Galaxy A15 5G

Anonymous, 08 Aug 2024You're correct about their decisions not being based o... moreThis, alongside the ugly notch (except A35 and A55), thick bezels, and unnecessary bulk on all of their mid-range phones.
The Poco X6, which retails for the same price as the A15 5G in my country at $220, is decently light, slick, and modern-looking with super thin bezels and a hole punch camera. In comparison, the A15 5G just looks like an $80 low-end phone.
Maybe for some people, the only thing that matters is that it's a Samsung phone. As if that's something to be proud of, in the same manner as owning an iPhone.

Anonymous, 06 Aug 2024Or the A55/M55/F55/C55/M55s... for crying out loud!
Just... moreYou're correct about their decisions not being based on sound business considerations. If it was, they'd realize that the small S24 sells amazingly well, so if there was a mid-ranger that size (in addition to the existing big ones), it would sell well for the same reason.
By the way, this concept that Samsung makes what customers want and if certain kinds of phones are discontinued it means people didn't want it is a complete myth. The fact is that people can only buy what's available, so it looks like that's what they want. If Samsung actually made what people wanted, they wouldn't stop the Note series, force Exynos chips on flagships in many countries, remove the headphone jack and SD slot, and they'd trim down phone bodies to eliminate dead space and their ugly bezels. But Samsung makes what Samsung wants, not what customers want. We are just forced to choose from whatever is available, so now the "stats" say "He bought that phone, he must want it!" but that's silly. A person can't get what he wants if it doesn't exist. A Note fan buying another phone doesn't really want it, and a European Snapdragon fan buying an Exynos phone doesn't either really want it. They're forced to take what exists. "Companies make what customers want" is a myth. When it comes to phones, demand does NOT drive the supply, but rather it's the other way around.

Just goes to show that Samsung's decisions aren't financial based. There are far more people that would buy a compact mid-ranger (the size of the highly popular S24/S23) than those clamoring for a phone that's a clone of an existing A-series phone, just with a different name and one or two tiny differences.

Oh well, companies make whatever they feel like making anyways, so there's no point in questioning them; they'll never change.

Anonymous, 19 Jul 2024Ha! Part of your question is the answer:
There is no rhyme... moreI know right? Instead of making these pointless duplicates like the M15, F15, M35, M55, F55, and etcetera for only a few parts of the world, Samsung could've used their R&D funds to make compact versions of their A-series phones and release them globally.
Right now the budget segment is heavily lacking in compact options with screen sizes under 6.5 inches. Not everyone has the money to buy an S24 or iPhone 15 just to get a pocketable phone that's easy to carry around and use with one hand.
An A15e with a 6.0 inch display would certainly add flavor to an otherwise jaded market full of massive bricks. I think the last time Samsung made a compact budget phone was with the A41 back in 2020.

The problem is they're expensive. So if there was a phone with that size and weight in the mid-range segment, it would sell similarly well among those who can't afford the S price.

This phone absolutely sucks. It decides to send nonsense texts on its own. It won't eliminate annoying connections to spectrum ads out of the blue. The speech to text feature is pure garbage. Can't keep the screen on for more than ten minutes. Constantly have to turn it on to see if anyone texted because it doesn't always make a sound when a text comes in.
Marginally better than a couple of cans with a string.

I remember the day,
When one could confidently say:
“My smartphone is sleek, mobile, and light,
Easy to carry, day and night.”
To your pocket it easily slides in and out,
Without weighing down your pants and making you shout.
Easy to hold, whether in two hands or one,
No strain or fatigue, what fun!
Is it a tablet or a phone?
The difference was easily known.
But now the line is blurred,
Most devices are “phablets”, so absurd!
Clunky, heavy, and big,
Feels like you’re carrying a rig.
No longer have you access to a compact device,
Unless you're rich and can afford the expensive price!

Littlebitred52 , 19 Jul 2024 When It first came out it it ofee 4, 6, 8,ram now all yu c... moreThat's a very good question. The answer is that Samsung has always put US budget customers last. Whether limiting the RAM and color options for us, or whether it's not releasing any M series phones here, and even many of the A series phones were also never released here, going back many years. Heck, in 2023 only two models were released in the US, the A54 and A14 5G. That's it.

There is no rhyme or reason to many things Samsung does. For instance:
- Creating (almost or complete) identical A phone copies, and calling them "M" or "F" series.
- Making a 5,000mAh battery version for everyone, and a 6,000mAh version of the same phone for a tiny fraction of the market.
- Randomely assigning display (and device) sizes to different A phones. For instance: A53: 6.5, A54: 6.4, A55: 6.6.
- While phones come in multiple storage and RAM configurations, Samsung makes only certain configurations available in different countries, often only one of them in the US. Same for phone colors.
- The A2x, A1x, and A0x series are launched in a different month each year. And after that, the "launch" is further fragmented in each country.
- The bizarrely random way each model receives its updates each month.
And many more examples.
Sure seems like random moods and the side people wake up on during any particular day determines a lot of what goes on at Samsung, instead of a coherent vision or strategic planning.

Simple question:
The A15 has a 5,000 battery, while the M15 has a 6,000 battery. Other than that, they're IDENTICAL. Why not just produce one version with a 6,000 battery and make it universally available, instead of having two versions with the bigger battery only being available in like two and a half countries? I don't understand, only those places like bigger batteries while everyone else wants shorter battery life? Is there any rhyme or reason to this (and many other decisions of Samsung)?
Does anyone have an explanation for this?
