In fact, it is their most popular A-series phone where I live. Some of the biggest improvements they made over last year's models include an updated antenna design (the A35 has better signal reception compared to the A54) and really good battery life (about as good as the A34).

Even I'm tempted to get one, actually. Just waiting for some releases in July to make a final call.

➖ lack of 1080/60fps on Selfie or UltraWide lens, they're limited to 4K-1080/30fps (1080/60fps still works on the main 50MP lens)
➖ Lack of HDR in third party apps like Netflix (HDR still works on YouTube)
➖ Lack of a linear x-axis vibration motor capable of Haptic Feedback (It still has a decent rumble motor)
➖ Other negligible stuff like 20 minute slower charging, eSim regions, slightly different exterior around the cameras, slightly quieter speakers (But those are little nitpicks)

Once you put a case on it, they're the same exact phone. You can't tell the difference between A55 & A35. (If you want some of the missing features you can still get last year's A54 for the same price as A35 except it has a smaller screen, bigger bezels & 1 less year of updates)

I say go for the A35, it's a really good deal & there aren't many differences. 👍💯 In fact, Samsung didn't ship A55 to the US for the first time ever. Americans can only choose from A35 or S23 FE this year. This means Samsung made sure it's a really good phone. (It will be without a doubt Samsung's best seller in 2024, especially in that pink colorway)

Anonymous, 27 Jun 2024My bad, they're not bad. They're actually decent ... moreWe'll get there. In a few years, we'll have A38 that will, hopefully, take photos of similar quality to those from Pixel 8a. :)
I've been studying the DxOMark scores - A34 got a Camera score of 92, while A35 got 104. I don't know how accurate the scores are, but it's a decent uplift.
Samsung doesn't really want you to buy the cheaper phone (doh), so they gimp them with inferior image processing algorythms. Have you noticed that when you change between lens on A series phones, there's a blur happening on screen? Well, you don't get that on S series.
Camera app looks the same but works differently. And I guess that's fine. You do pay a lot less for A series phones. The good part is that competition is slowly pulling ahead, thus forcing Samsung to offer more features / better performance on midrange devices.

They're basically the same phone except for the metal frame, an unnoticeably slightly better CPU, and an noticeable better GPU for gaming. You're only losing build quality and slightly worse gaming performance.

As for the camera, both A35 and A55's cameras are kinda bad.

The A55 here is about 60 USD higher than a S21 so I think its price in way high, but needed to make sure the A35 doesn't lose any major features

Beside better performance, the aluminum frame on A55 looks much nicer than plastic frame on 35. Otherwise get the A35 if the price difference is significant.

melo64, 24 Jun 2024I am thinking about getting either this or the A55, is the ... moreThen performance difference between the Exynos 1380 and 1480 is not much. The 1380 is comparable to or just slightly better than the SD 7 Gen 1 (on the CPU side) while the 1480 is only like 15% more powerful overall.

The main advantages the A55 offers over the A35 are seemingly better thermal management and battery life, but the differences are not so great in actual practice.

The main advantages of the A35 over the A55 are seemingly stronger signal/network reception, slightly better speakers, and just overall far better value for money.

I would, however, like to point out that I personally am disappointed in the A35's low light camera performance. I can't comment on the A55 though.

I personally would rather get the A35 (still trying to decide between it and another model). But I have different requirements from you.

Ved, 22 Jun 2024A solid midrange phone with a slightly disappointing camera... moreTrue. But... you do get small improvements with each generation. P9 was a flagship, after all. A3x is proper midrange, while A5x is upper-end midrange. Now, of course, prices could be better, though not very bad, if you wait a few months after release. I can find A35 6/128 for as low as 270 $, which is very good value (almost amazing). Compare A35 with A32 - you can see some significant changes over the years.

I think photos are pretty decent, even if you don't take price into consideration. I'd say it's around Pixel 6a levels.

I am thinking about getting either this or the A55, is the price difference worth it?

I mainly use my phone for photography and music, not heavy gaming or sth like that.

However I am worried about the Exynos 1380 in comparison to the 1480, some people are saying the 1480 is relatively more optimised than the the 1380

Also the camera quality how is it between the two? some reviews say it's the same and others say the A35 is trashy in comparison to the A55

A solid midrange phone with a slightly disappointing camera. My previous phone was Huawei P9 and its camera is still superior, especially the pro mode.
Can't forgive Samsung for ditching the backlight mode, for dumbing down pro mode and for cutting down on the number of modes it offers.
Also a minor grudge for locking photo and video modes next to eachother. I rarely use video mode, but it's permanently locked in place, taking up valuable real estate in the modes list.
The camera also likes to soften the edges of everything and even transform pixels into blots of colour, and it often produces very undersaturated pics.
I'll survive, but it's disappointing nonetheless that a modern phone, at not an insignificant price, is less advanced than its older predecessors and competitors.

The keyboard is also quite weird and unintuitive.

On the plus side, large internal storage and the possibility to extend it with a micro SD. 👍
