In Google's opinion, devices with as little as 512 MB of RAM (excluding memory that's set aside for the graphics processor etc) are acceptable for official approval as "compatible" with Nougat. (Section 7.6)
Of course, they would also have to meet other performance metrics, as specified elsewhere in the document. (Such as section 8 in general; other requirements are also spread throughout the document; see for example video decoding performance requirements in section 5.3)
Samsung would be foolish to release Nougat without Google's stamp of approval, because they'd loose permission to bundle the Google Play apps. So, if they do release Nougat for the A3 (2016), then it can only be because they have successfully met these performance requirements.

Or is Android 7 less hardware-resources-hungry compared to Android 6 or 5??

A3 2016 will never get nougat v7Samsung has officially confirmed an upgrade to Nougat for the A3 (and also the A8) some time in the first half of 2017.
They did not qualify this by generation, so it's ambiguous whether this only applies to the 2016 model, or if it might also apply to the 2015 model.

This phone is beyond its class, compact, slick, well built. Superb display. Like S3 back in the days but in a nicer package. If you take the price in consideration all I have to say is "Well don Samsung!"

Been using this mobile for 12months. This is a medium size monster. For those who dont need big screen suggest go for this as everything is good. But if need big screen then dont recommend. But size is ok to me as it 4.7 and same as iphone 6, 6s

aravind , 21 Jan 2017Battary backup is poor I had the same problem with battery autonomy and i solved it by switching off Smart stay function under Display menu. Maybe it could be the main reason of your battery draining.
