Anonymous, 27 Aug 2024What nonsense are you writing here? All S class phones from... moreConspiracy theories? Ah jeez, here we go again.

I truly feel sorry for you to live in a world where nobody seems to buy Chinese phones because they suck, according to you.

By the time all other competitors are able to fit 6000mAh batteries on a 8mm thick device and have 90% screen to body ratios, meanwhile Samsung still rocks a 5000mAh battery on a 8.3mm thick device with a screen to body ratio of 85%, I guarantee people would be laughing at Samsung users like you.

pluser, 26 Aug 2024I want thick framesI don't understand the panic here about those frames, they are 8.2, which is a common and normal thickness. Screen size is 0,2 inch smaller. But i don't see any big deal here too. It's good, normal phone with similar design with flagships, but with worse specifications. Of course with cheaper price. One of the best model from Samsung in mid range at all this year. I agree with you, i want thicker frames too. Now i can feel that i hold in my hand real phone. Not paper leaf.

TruGroh, 26 Aug 2024Pretty sure Samsung gives their budget phones thick bezels ... moreWhat nonsense are you writing here? All S class phones from Samsung are similar in thickness to each other, is small changes. The same is with A class about 8 or a little bit over 8 mm. Even A70 was only 0.1 mm thinner than the flagship S10+ at the time. You just provoke people and create conspiracy theories here nothing else. Because many people like Samsung and A class phones, not like Chinese phones as probably to you like.

Still, it doesn't excuse the A55's bulkiness, and the fact that pretty much every other competing brand (except Google and Sony) can have thinner bezels for the same price as the A55, or maybe even cheaper.

I don't expect the A56 to have the same razor thin bezels as the S24+, but if they can at least make the A56's bezels as thin and symmetrical as the S23+, that would be great.

[deleted post]> You're only looking at expected *production* figures, not actual *sales* numbers. The latter is a far bigger determining factor.

                      > Not necessarily everyone who are planning to buy the iPhone 16 or 16 Pro want their smaller size, but because they offer better value than their bigger versions.

                      > Android makers who only make compact flagships are almost certainly just copying Apple's strategy, but none of them could ever match Apple in sales numbers.

                      > Apple doesn't make cheap iPhones.

                      > Chinese manufacturers rule the budget market with their big phones, so other companies like Samsung can't apply the same strategy they use for their flagships to their budget lineup if they want to compete against them.

Here’s a quick education on some fundamentals. It’s very worth the read.

                            First, let’s define the terms:
“Device size”: length from top to bottom of device itself.
“Display size”: screen size measured diagonally, usually bigger than device size.

                            Examples:
S24 Ultra: 6.8 inch display, 6.39 inch device
S24 Plus: 6.7 inch display, 6.24 inch device
                            S24: 6.2 inch display, 5.79 inch device

                            Conclusion:
Device can be a half inch smaller than display without sacrificing anything.

So why is the gap between display and device size in budget phones much less? Because of useless bezels i.e. dead space around the screen that just contributes to a bulkier device size for ABSOLUTELY NO REASON. The most egregious example is the A14 with a 6.6 display and 6.6 device size due to its gigantic bezels. Remove that dead space and you’re left with a more manageable 6.2 inch device. The A15 is somewhat better, but the gap is still 6.5 to 6.3. The A55/A35 are slightly better, with a gap of 6.6 to 6.34/6.37, but they can also be 6.2 inches.

But will the battery fit? Well, the 6.23 inch A54 clearly shows a 5000 mAh battery fitting into 6.2 inches. So why are bezels added? To purposely stick it to budget customers! It’s not like the manufacturer has to go out of their way and do anything extra for budget customers, just DON’T ADD dead space!

You may ask: “What’s a few tenths of an inch already?” Well guess what, the difference between a compact device and a big bulky one is often less than an inch. So in phones, every tenth of an inch makes a real difference.

Weight is also a problem. As an example, the S24 Plus is 6.91 oz. So why is the A15 - 7.05 oz, the A14 - 7.13 oz, the A55 - very heavy at 7.37 oz, and the A35 - an astounding 7.51 oz! The A13 seems to manage just fine at 6.88 oz. And when you’re holding a phone for a while, you can bet that those ounces (or grams) add up to tire and/or hurt your hand!

                            Bottom line:
In addition to the discussion of producing actual compact phones that are affordable which should absolutely be done, today’s budget phones can be more manageable IN THEIR CURRENT FORM if their useless dead space and extra weight is removed.

Anonymous, 18 Aug 2024Small phones are "nonsense" for you, but for many... moreApple is pretty much the reason why Samsung only makes compact flagships, and why Google decided to make a compact Pixel Pro this year. They're basically copying Apple's strategy in hopes of overtaking iPhone sales.

Meanwhile in the low and midrange market where iPhones don't exist, Chinese companies are the reason why Samsung won't even bother making budget compact phones. Pretty much every best-selling phone from Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo, and OnePlus have display sizes of 6.5 inches and over. So Samsung has no choice but to follow along.
