Apparently three whole Wikipedia articles (Motorola Inc., Motorola Mobility, and Motorola Solutions) all mentioning that Motorola is an American company aren't enough facts for you? Unbelievable.

I'm starting to think you're a troll.

€340 for this phone with 256GB storage is a pretty enticing deal, but I'm kinda curious what improvements they will make with the A56, which is still roughly 6 months away from release.

What do you people think? Should I get the A55 right now or wait for the A56?

Anonymous, 27 Sep 2024Even if the efficiency is worse, the battery life is pretty... moreFrom my experience, Samsung has really improved the modems in the Exynos 1330 and 1380. And the 1480 does well on LTE reception (though worse than the 1380 on 5G, for some reason). In fact, I would argue that these three Exynos SOCs match their respective Dimensity SOC rivals in the modem department. And, from some reason, they're better on signal reception than Samsung's flagship tier 2000-series SOCs, which is mind-boggling.

However, Qualcomm is definitely the reigning champion. That is without a doubt. If you have a Qualcomm SOC in the device and signal reception is not up to standard, then the issue must be with the antennae or elsewhere in the device.

The Exynos 1380 and 1480 are actually quite competitive against their respective SD counterparts (SD 7s Gen 2 and SD 7 Gen 3 respectively) in the energy efficiency department.

^ This. This is one of the things that always concerns me in a phone. How useful and practical is the software, how secure is it, and how stable will it be in four years. Things like that.

On top of the slow updates, ads, and bad optimization, several useful features like bypass charging, 80% charge limit, interconnectivity, etc. are only reserved for higher-end Xiaomi/Poco devices. Customization is also lackluster, and the fact that the Always On Display on anything but flagship Xiaomi devices is still limited to just 10 seconds is a load of nonsense.

Many people out there still like to judge phones based purely on their spec sheets and often ignore the software side of things. Really, a bad software experience can ruin a phone with otherwise capable specs, while a good software can elevate a phone with average specs.

English isn't a first langu... moreI've compared my 256GB Galaxy A55 with my friend's Poco F6 and a OnePlus Nord 4 at a retail store. I can assure you that despite the A55 having the weakest processor of the three, it performs near identically to the Poco and Nord for casual use. The A55 is a bit more stuttery when scrolling on certain apps like YT, Play Store, and Chrome, but other than that, apps opened just as fast the other two phones with much faster processors, and multi-tasking still feels decently snappy.

The only thing the A55 lags behind is gaming performance, but I don't like playing mobile games, so it's not an issue for me.

Anyway... That's understandable. I also deplore Samsung's lack of performance relative to price, and the lack of real proximity sensors in devices priced at premium levels. But, yeah, the software experience is unmatched, they have good security, the devices last, and spare parts are somewhat easily available. Those are big plus points.
