I already bought the A8 2018 yesterday evening from Orange Romania and I quit the A5 2017 so I wish you a great success I hope you get 9.0 Pie. I until April I have 9.0 Pie on the A8 2018! I have searched the majority of the sites informing about the Android update to Pie 9.0 for Samsung smartphones and non of them seems to include the model J5 2017. On the contrary Samsung members app include the above model! Don't know what to believe...

Chris22, 02 Jan 2019It's not true J5 2017 is on the list of updates on the Sams... moreHaha, it's really true. I had a notification on Samsung members app informing us about the aproximate date of the update to Android Pie 9.0 on Samsung Galaxy J5 2017 (August 2019). Seems unbelievable that more expensive models are stuck in the previous version of Android. Let me ask you something people! Should we proceed to a factory reset after the update ot there's no need to?

It looks to be a great phone and has all the features I want -- except for one! It doesn't have the frequencies used to pump out the 3G and 4G signals in rural Australia; particularly in my area. I have three towers in close proximity to my residence, yet I can't get any signal. Anyone would think I live in a Faraday cage.
I really thought we had gone past the old 'stand on one leg on the roof of your home with one arm raised and wearing an Alfoil signal attractor on your head'.
I think I'll go back to my old flip-phone. It may not be smart but at least I can use it to make calls. The J5 Pro I have recently purchased does everything BUT make phone calls.
