Charging my spare battery either happens at home or in my bag with a cradle charger plugged into a powerbank. My devices remains totally wireless.

If you already have the Note.5, you should do the following to keep that battery optimized with reduced degradation:

*Keep charge between 40% to 80%
*Charge with normal non-fast charge for less heat

You can actually get better power longevity and up to 10 times more battery cycles.

Fast charging is a short term solution. A consolation prize to changeable batteries which I have recently bought 3 new ones after my first set becoming quite ineffective from 18 months ago. How ineffective? It was just giving me about 3 hours of on screen time, in a span of 5 to 6 hours.

New batteries give me more than twice more than that - over 6 hours of screen time, in the span of 13 to 14 hours. And I tether my unlimited data with my Surface, with Bluetooth always connected to my wireless earphones, all notifications on, LTE always on. Changing batteries only take a minute.

I'm just waiting for Apple to come out with an iPen and edge screens, so they can be seen as hypocrites. I can't believe Apple won so many lawsuits against Samsung for absurd design similarities, while they have been "borrowing" many other company's ideas and designs for a long time. I think that many competitors will have similar designs that will seem very much alike, but the fact that Apple actually sued someone else (and won!) for what they have been guilty for in the past (and present) makes me hate the money-hungry company even more. I don't hate iPhones, I hate Apple. Their products are actually pretty good. Its the way the charge ridiculous prices for questionable quality of hardware and their polished iOS (which is what people are really buying, but its good.) Should Samsung sue Apple because they copied the "phablet"-sized screens Samsung has become popular for? Hmmm....sounds silly, but Apple has already done it to them for other similar design points. I was mad at Steve Jobs for awhile because I thought he had something to do with the pricing for these devices. As I have learned, the company made those choices and he was not happy about it. F$%* Apple! But their devices are cool.

TheNeighbor, 13 Sep 2015This is some weird marketing experiment on Samsung's part, ... moreAnd besides can you offer any proof that the fast charge will damage the battery more than the normal life of any previous battery? It is possible that this was thought of in the design process and made more efficient to offer a similar over-all battery life while still allowing fast charge? By the way, fast charge is...AWESOME!! Full charge takes an hour and eights minutes from 1%. Who needs replaceable batteries? Take it from someone who used replaceable batteries EVERY SINGLE DAY and never had to charge my phone with 3 batteries in rotation. I will miss bringing them with me on long trips, but for the most part the long battery life and fast charge has made up for it.

TheNeighbor, 13 Sep 2015This is some weird marketing experiment on Samsung's part, ... moreAlthough you make some very goods points about their marketing strategy and decisions made, I should mention that the Samsung Galaxy Note series was designed for business-oriented people. (Not why I bought it though.) With this in mind, is it really a wonder why they took the SD card slot and replaceable battery away? Don't get me wrong, these were two of my favorite features that separated Samsung from Apple. But there are good reasons for this. I wrote a post for this somewhere on this thread. It's lengthy so I won't reiterate here.
Why did they take away the IR blaster and add the heart rate monitor? That is a very good question, considering they are now targeting normal, every day users and not the tech hungry individuals or business-orientated people as before. I could have said they took the IR blaster away because people who are serious business people don't have time for TV. But that doesn't make sense now with the target change. I don't care that my Note 5 doesn't have one. Why? You guessed it! I don't watch TV anymore. Not worth the time if you want to get your life in order. Besides, you already have a remote. What you may not have is a heart rate monitor, which in my opinion is better because it promotes health and not laziness. I don't want to sound like I am a health nut, because I'm not. But it makes sense.
The glass back was something necessary for the new wireless charging technology, even though it is not as practical or pleasant as one would hope for. It will not work with any metal covers. This is something iPhones can't do. Is it that important? Maybe not, but it's a new technology that Samsung is taking advantage of. It will be big one day. But, Apple might let it slip by like other technologies they failed to incorporate, but seems to make up for later. I'm not saying that one is better than the other. I am simply saying that each device has its specialized features that will be dependent on what the user needs it for. That is what ultimately makes it a good device for any particular consumer.

So...you're saying that the ONLY reason you used a Samsung is because of the ability to change batteries and remove the SD card? You are going to switch to an iPhone because you are mad, just like I was. I am also a deep fan of those things and said the same thing when I heard the mortifying news. I am a proud owner of a Note 5, a considerable upgrade from a Note 2. Here is why I decided to buy it. I did some research and realized that there are very good reasons they did this.
For one, batteries (especially 3rd party ones) have caused safety issues. I had 2 replacement batteries that I switched out regularly, effectively not having to charge my phone...ever! But, the batteries were starting to swell and the battery contacts were being rubbed out. Eventually, I was getting undesirable battery life. It was bad and inconsistent. I expected some loss of battery life with age of the phone, but it was bad.
SD cards can be corrupted or damaged, especially since many people don't always treat them with care EVERY time they remove it and replace it. Also, by switching out SD cards frequently (and like batteries), the contacts degraded little by little. It can take longer to transfer data to and from it and can also damage files as its being transferred, possibly losing something forever. I've had this happen with my Note 10.1 (2014 edition) tablet and other smartphones (rarely did this happen with my Note 2 due to usually using the same SD card only so I did not do much switching. ALSO, an integrated SD card means more speed and allows the design of the phone to be slimmer (weight and size is not a deal breaker for me, so I don't really care that its slimmer and lighter, but some people do.)
Although I am a Samsung Android powered fan, I cannot say anything bad about the iPhone, except for the questionable hardware quality. Especially compared to Samsung flagship phones. No matter what anyone says, the iOS is a top-notch operating system. But that's what people are really paying a premium price for, its not the hardware. They simplified the whole experience (which works for most people), but effectively restricts much of what you can do with the phone. Of course, there are good reasons for that too. Like, keeping the integrity of the OS intact (which is one reason why its closed-source). I happen to do more than menial tasks and use my device to its full potential. My wife, on the other hand, bought an iPhone and hardly uses any features. (She only bought it because most people she knows has them and she likes using Face Time, which is a probably the most polished video chat app available so far, so I can understand why.) My step-dad stopped using Android phones and bought an iPhone for simplicity. I am not a simple guy and I am deeply into technology. I am not a self-proclaimed expert, nor am I saying that one is better than the other. But I do know what I'm saying (or I wouldn't say anything) and I keep up with technology and love to play with phones (locked or unlocked). You don't have to take my word for it, play with both products THEN you have appropriate ammo toward the other products. Most people just don't know anything about cell phones, even though they think they do. I know this because I frequently ask people about what they like about their phone. Most iPhone users say its because of simplicity and because many other people they know own one. Most die-hard Android phone owners say its because of what they can do with it and how they like the features (besides the bloatware and other pre-loaded proprietary brand apps.) While iOS runs more fluidly, and can do so with much less RAM and processing power, it is mostly due to limited processes versus extra processes that people don't always use running in the background on Android phones. This is a user preference as the iOS offers limited features (unless you root it.) Most flagship Android phones come with a plethora of customization and features without rooting it. Also, keep in mind that Android is an open source with its own cons and pros. A important con is that not all phones will work the same because Android is incorporated into so many different phones with different hardware and different customized user interfaces that are specific to that particular model of the phone. People like iPhone and I can see why, but Android is not going anywhere because of Apple. There is a reason why there is a close competitive race between the two. It's because they both work great for different things that interest a particular user.
WHAT I DON'T LIKE ABOUT APPLE--is the way they don't care about their customers or people in general. They are money-hungry dirt bags. Don't believe me? Then, why can't iPhone owners get insurance on their phones when everyone else can? And if you can now (not sure if they changed it) they didn't before. There may be more reasons this didn't happen than I know, but the fact remains that broken iPhone users have to buy another product at retail (or did for a long time.)
What most people might not know is that the same companies that manufacture the electronics and other hardware for these phones are usually the same that supply almost all branded phones. For the most part, Samsung, Apple, and other smartphone makers buy their hardware from others. So, why are iPhones users getting questionably less hardware than Samsung's devices that are priced the same? Again, I'm trying to stay objective with these two companies and their devices, and although what is on a spec sheet cannot always determine the best operation for a device when flagship phones are compared, there are considerable advantages to owning each phone. For me, its the S Pen. lol Can't live without it! If you think that iPhone can compete with that by using a stylus or your finger, then I don't think you have properly tested the Note's very capable and cool S Pen. There is a big difference. P.S. If you reply to this post, please don't presume you know more than you do. If you have never tried the other product, don't knock it. If you have done NO research, then don't try to denounce anything I've said. If you have properly done both, then we can have a credible discussion. "I don't like iPhones because they're stupid" is not an acceptable response. Educate yourselves, then you will have credibility to your convictions and many will take you more seriously. (This message is for everyone; I am not trying to single you out or say that you don't know anything. I am simply asking that you explore more information to find exactly why these companies do what they do. Many people frequently think companies make stupid mistakes, and sometimes they do, but the people who make the decisions are rich and very much intelligent and they didn't get to where they are at by not knowing what they are doing.)

Although the note 5 is a really great state of the art phone the note 5 and other front and back glass phones are indeed very very sensitive. It doesn't make sense to me WHY someone would use GLASS on a smartphone to cover it. Glass has to be the most brittle, weakest, breakable, damageable. With Glass you will always have to be careful like your life is on it, like holding a brand new baby, anything, wood , or even the seemingly harmless things will probably do something to glass. I don't get it, out of all the other great materials the world has, this phone could look the same, yet be equipped with better quality material that doesn't make the phone feel like a literal piece of just glass, think about it. . Glass has to be the lowest kind next to plastic. I guess I understand the game, anything happens to the phone and you're looking to your wallet and samsung/phone retail to fix it. $$. To me, it's nothing but planned obsolescence. To keep you spending. There is no way that in this system there will be a perfect undamageable, unbreakable smart phone that will not become obsolete. If products did not become obsolete the corporations would be out of business.

S Pen being stuck in the silo is pretty obvious the design team who worked on this didn't think or tested this flaw thoroughly. Is this covered with that free insurance?

Infrared remote control was taken out, and it doesn't make sense that they kept the heartbeat sensor instead which most people will never use.

Fast wireless/fast charging is encouraged to kill the battery capacity faster.

So if you use Note5 you have the same probability of dropping it only twice within 2 years. That equal to 2 times glass replacement which Samsung had clearly state only cost $39. Is that too much to ask? On the plus side, the first year is covered by free replacement warranty. So, you only pay $39 in 2 years of usage. Or buy the glass yourself and DIY. Not that hard.
