3. YesThanks for that! I believe you on those. It's probably a tool/prestige thing... Who wouldn't ? It's the best Android value phone in the world right now.
Most will buy after a while though, when the prices are expected to have dropped. I have serious doubts it will happen within a year.

The thing is, the phone... morePrevious Galaxy Note never reached $1000, and with the money equivalent that comes with the purchase of Note8 like with 256GB microSD ($150) + fast wireless charger ($100) or Gear Fit ($200) can easily shave off $300.
It need not be expensive.
$1000 is SRP of the Note8 where I stay. The motivation of this price tag by Samsung is positioning their high-end products like the S series and Note series to the lifestyle pricing of the iPhone.
You are paying basically for prestige for those who aren't even using the S Pen or need that dual cameras. For those who use this mainly as a tool, the S Pen is great, and a single camera with the f/1.7 is what some of us want and need.

The thing is, the phone market unlike the laptop/PC market is more user/consumer expectation determined and we keep looking for perfection; a 4GB Ram Android phone now seems outdated already - meanwhile this is good enough even on windows laptops and PCs.
I'm not saying phones have replaced laptops BUT windows in itself is too buggy (for me) on very simple tasks.
Eventually it will all come down to the Operating System. Android is light and compact, widows is Billy and carries with that bulk loads of complications.
Except for professional apps (some engineering, art, etc) which are yet (due to influences I believe) to be optimized or codes for Android, I think windows is losing out on relevance.
I still use my windows surface book BUT not for everyday simple tasks such as emails, LinkedIn, invoicing, documents, etc - I actually only use it for research and when running my work (satellite tuning) apps which has not yet been optimized for Android.
And I may not be the only one who doesn't go for meetings with their laptops anymore.
I think whatever replaces these functions can't be cheap. That's why for me, IF can be afforded, high end flagship phones are the way to go.

i work for a phone network and this is the best handset on the uk market by far. specs are unrivalled and im really excited to see apples offering a few days after the note 8 launch, really just to see how much the samsung out classes the apple, which it will.

AnonD-197784, 09 Sep 2017I personally feel its easier getting everyday tasks done on... moreYou bring up some good points and I agree with you for the most part, people's expectations are extremely finicky and over the top and yes I think even last year's phones could almost sufficiently replace a desktop for the average consumer; in fact for a certain percentage it has.
However there are certain tasks that I don't think a cellphone could replace a laptop/desktop environment for. Not yet anyway. The Samsung Dex is interesting to be sure though.
The other problem is longevity and device endurance. Obviously I can't speak for your Surface but my late 2013 HP laptop (which was worth $1,000 at the time) still executes commands quickly and edits RAW photos/videos beautifully. It also emails great too! ;) If I wanted the latest version of Windows/Linux distro I could get it with little trouble sparing installation issues. It still receives security updates to this day. And although it would be nice I see no need to upgrade to another system for another few years down the road.
Can I say the same for my early 2014 S5? No. It still runs impressively for its age and hardware but it's never going to run Oreo and it hasn't seen security patches for quite a few months, but I'll give Samsung credit for supporting it longer than most OEMs would have. Is this story going to be different for the Note8 that costs more than it did a mere 2 years down the road? Most likely not.
Then there's the fact that a cellphone is meant to be carried around and sometimes not all the cases and screen protectors in the world can save a device. Do you really want to be out a $1,000 and have to shell out another $1,000? It simply isn't consumer friendly nor sustainable.
I agree that a great product won't come cheap, but there is a point where it becomes impractical. However I am considering it because it is a great device, but I'm also thinking about just waiting until it comes down in price. XD

Most phones are a pain to use as they are limited. On tablets, the web browsing experience is limited, as they show cut down versions of a web site. For me the real work is on a desktop PC.... Unless they bring 4K laptops, they are useless too.
Android has some way to go, before it can challenge Windows.

I personally feel its easier getting everyday tasks done on mobile phones and android tablets these days than on PCs/Laptops, so I really don't see why phones cant cost more than laptops.
Windows is so bugged out that writing a simple email is easier for me on a Blackberry Priv than on my Microsoft Surface Book (Performance base), and don't get me started on the "signing documents on the go" that is supposedly a feature on the windows "tablet" platform.
The truth is that mentally our expectations for smartphones are so high (higher than what we get from our high end laptops) and so for manufacturers to meet these expectations, it has to be expensive.
Can you make a call on a $2,700.00 Windows laptop? Or even use your SIM for 3G/4G Data on a $3,000.00 Microsoft Surface Pro or Book? Answer is NO, but we want our phones to do all that these laptops can do "on the go" and still make calls.
It can't come cheap.

Specs aren't the entire picture, if that were the case no one would ever buy an iPhone. While I agree that agree that $900+ for a phone is ridiculous but it isn't as if Samsung is the only company who is guilty of price gouging even before the N8 nor will they be the last.
On the flip side, some people feel that what they're getting is worth it no matter the price versus other options available; especially if you are a Note user and make use of the features exclusive to it. You may be perfectly happy with a cheaper OEM but that doesn't mean others will be.

I soon realized, it's easy to throw a bunch of high end specs to create a smartphone, but seamless integration between hardware and software along with dedication to all the details is what made my experience much better with Samsung, despite the phone being a year older.

Yesterday I kept note 8 in my hands.
First impressions.
Sound
Phone to play high resolution files (dsd, etc.)
but the sound left me no big impression. The sound is clean but neutral, without character, dry. I understand why the phone never plays as good as
portable hi-resolution player, because the phone can not have good capacitors, wires, etc.
I have a hi-res portable player I compare and know what I say. Supporting a high file does not mean a quality recovery ...
Pencil
Only note no more. It's possible a lot, but whoever was holding a real pencil, brush, feather, etc. never feel pleasure when you make a note with a note 8 pencil. Very lightweight.
I think the pencil is handy to work with excel and so on. where there are many tables, numbers, charts ...
Size
Not for me :)
The phone is not bad, but not for everyone...
