I am an independent thinker. Just because all smartphone manufacturers are making big phones, does not mean they are right. They are not listening to people. They only reason, they are making bigger phones, is largely psychological to make people pay more for the next phone.

James, 04 Sep 2018One should consider it. Trading is a good thing.
Why keep... moreDevices are not investments - they depreciate in value. I got my wife's 29-month-old S7 Edge since she now has a Note9. I'm not selling it even if it fetches $100-$200. I'm keeping it because the camera is very good, like I kept my Note 3 with a 10,000 mAh battery because it can record decent images and 4k video.
I use these as instruments to create. Even my old 8" Note 8.0 (2013) is working as my extra screen for drawing. The old phones I use to record my painting techniques for sharing to students in painting. One of them I use as a security camera.
I think the trend of paying $1000 for smartphone is becoming absurd - at first. Since I use the S Pen function for jotting and sketching my thoughts, a Galaxy Note is more functional than the $1000 iPhone X. My wife needed a jotting notes device for meetings, and I stopped her from getting the Note8 (my current) last May because I really know the Note9 would be an improvement with a $50 price difference.
I know, $1000 is the same price range of a gaming laptop. But thinking about it, i preferably be carrying something that's smaller and Miracast to the classroom tv to demonstrate how to draw, or manage my architectural design projects detail drawings. I figure out details by sketching. This is how I'm earning from a Galaxy Note. My job is easier with a Galaxy Note.

Why keep something with you until it loses value? You invest your hard earned money into something you called secured?then why I can't find my phone if it was stolen?this is what you called secured?then why so many tutorials in internet how to bypass protection algorithms?how to bypass FUP etc?this is what you called secure?in which technicians makes money because an average joe don't know how to properly remember a password?
Which features makes an expensive phone differ from a cheaper phone?a newer LTE radio that you can't even utilize since you carrier is giving you only either 1GB of data at full speed or Unlimited @ a slow speed but then throttled down to 512Kbps if you reached a quota?
- a power efficient display which is called AMOLED. But has burn in issues as time progress?
- a ample battery which can't last 1 day without turning off some features they are proud to put when marketing it?
- a pen that every 6 months you will replace because the head is worn off?or either you are not using at all because you have no idea how to use it?
- an IP protection which give you accidental touches if you decide to use on a pool when wet?
As I said the phone is good and packed with features. But one thing is disappointing. They don't have the guts to lose sales when the figures are low. Phones are basic part of life and I realized it doesn't need to be expensive. Besides which ever brand you go data collection is there. They are watching you and loads a tons of ads based on what you open. Thanks to security. right?
To remind you I use samsung phone. A pissed user
I am not surprised. Like Hyundai,Kia's and other korean brand who loses value as time progress. Compared to a Ford,Toyota's and Honda's.

[deleted post]I think, true smart phone users do not go for expensive mobiles for TRADING purpose !!!!!They generally go for due to following three major reasons....
1. Price
2. Facility/use-ability/Camera/Battery backup....
3. Overall security system of device ... w.r.t smart hacking services

Forget Apple with their false a... moreTrue samsung is good phone. But the depreciation value is too much. Id rather buy iPhone if you are smart enough to reliaze that you are throwing money for a phone that losses value in months,in bold letters MONTHS literally. Unlike iPhones you get a lot better resale value. Think of it. You bought a lambo and after 3 months you wanna sell it and one buyer want it for corolla price. Its heart breaking right?so for me i am done with samsung. I will stay with apple or either oneplus for android. Very funny company,i feel cheated
In addition theres alot of phone at 300-450$ for premium quality like xiaomi and oneplus. The same. Android and can do most of the features found on an expensive samsung or iphone.

Forget Apple with their false advertising, Forget Xiaomi, Forget the Fragile Oppo Phones and those Full Screen to body Ratio Vivo Phones. Forget Huawei with Saying that they have the best camera while their device can not perform better than Note 9 in low - light conditions. Forget Sony claiming they have the most megapixels in a single camera. Forget Google claiming to be the best smartphone with the smoothest experience and best single camera ever.
This ladies and gentlemen is the best smartphone so far of the era. Not because it's good at a specified thing only, but because it's good in many things.
There are OEMS like Apple that are good in one thing, and that is their CPU power. This device may not be that, but at least it packs many good and useful things into a single 6.4" device.
Okay tell me, where in the world is there a device that has:
-Micro SD Slot up to 512GB Memory.
-Headphone Jack.
-4k mAh battery.
-Stereo AKG 3D Tuned Speakers.
-6.4" 2K Super AMOLED Display, being one of the best displays ever made on a phone.
-No notch, and still more screen to body ratio than iPhone X.
-Best low light camera out there, having dual aperture.
-NFC.
-4G speeds up to a GIGABIT per second!.
-Most durable water and dust resistant smartphone ever, IP - 68 Rated.
-Hybrid Slot.
-Type - C port having a pretty fast and decent charging time thanks to the Fast Charging technology Samsung has.
-Fairly protected battery that does not explode.
-Great liquid cooling out there with a gigantic heat pipe to keep the heat away.
-Decent customisation on Samsung's Android with Samsung Experience 9.5 that has many features ahead of every Android version out there.
-Android 8.1 with top protection, thanks to the active knox deployment system.
- 8GB/6GB of RAM Memory and 128/512GB of Internal Memory.
-Fastest and best Wireless Charging out there.
-Durable front and back glass.
-Iris Scanner.
-Great front facing 8MP camera.
-Noise Cancellation Mic.
-Samsung Dex (PC Like workstation mode) that can now be used with a single Type - C to HDMI Dongle.
-Best S-Pen out there with Bluetooth capabilities for taking photos, unlocking your smartphone, playing/pausing music, and more stuff around that.
-Bixby 2.0 which is far better, smarter and more optimised.
-Support for Project Treble for faster and better Android updates
And last, but not least price below 1,200$. (Depends where).
It's of course better than the iPhone X, because at this price (or lower than it at some places) it offers lots more than iPhone X does.
What else could you want people?
Go on, I'm open for Discussion!

83662196, 30 Aug 2018Some people like the notch, including myself. It looks a lo... moreSamsung CEO DJ Koh said that Samsung will never implement such design.
Have you checked on the Internet, that Samsung has patents about a 100% Screen to Body ratio device. Have a look and you will see.
Samsung will possibly keep the headphone jack Untill S10/Note 10,because it would be stupid for them to remove it, as next year it's their 10-th Anniversary of the S and Note series.
The Notch is a bad design at the moment that's being used by many phone makers to draw attention and popularity. The Notch does not add more Screen to body ratio. Try comparing even S8 with iPhone X and you will see.
Companies will see Samsung in the future going for a full 100% Screen to body Ratio phone and they will just stop making phones with notches and move on to, to what Samsung has been patenting for more than 3 years.
Apple will be the only one that will just keep that ugly design, just like they did with their old one that was last seen on the iPhone X.
Other phone makers will move forward after 2019, and apple in 2021 or so, will inherit that design and call it an innovative design and say that they invented it.
Mark my words and come back in 2019,2020 and 2021 and you will see that I was true about this.
And regarding to the headphone jack on Samsung devices, Samsung might ditch the headphone jack after the 10-th series, but by then there will sure be an improved Bluetooth technology, Larger batteries on both the phone and the headphones that will be included with it.

Chris, 03 Sep 2018Does Note 9 support Quick charge 3.0 or 4.0 chargers ??/RE: Chris
You can use Quick Charge 3.0 and 4.0 chargers because they're backwards compatible but the Note 9 won't support those charging technologies/speeds. Officially, the USB-C standard isn't supposed to above 2.0 speeds so along with Note 7 stuff they haven't adopted it.
Hope this helps.

Black is black. Safe, functional but boring.
The blue with yellow s-pen combo looks neat but I feel the novelty might wear off after awhile.
