Though not Note Egde related, thanks for the advice. Was wondering why my phone's battery drained faster than usual awhile ago and I remembered that it was constantly searching for a Wifi signal during that time.

cell tech, 25 Feb 2015Oh really....
With regards bluetooth usable distances... and even wifi distances.. this can be dependent on a range of things...
Water absorbs waves. Metals reflect waves. Solid objects of mixed materials can deflect waves in weird ways.
The real unknown is how much other radio wave 'noise' is in the air.
Think about it- it is hard for devices to deal with all these frequencies. Especially so at greater distances when the waves are 'less'.
In a clear area with little radio wave activity it is easy to go great distances..
Case in point.. my bluetooth mouse and bluetooth headphones were fighting yesterday. Not physically in a way I could see,.. but my mouse just didn't want to respond. Until I cut back on radio wave emissions somewhat.
I have had lossless wireless devices 2.4Ghz give me epic ranges (yes 100ft is very doable for this tech),.. and also had compressed transmissions (much less data) not travel more than 30ft in relative line of sight.
Sometimes too, devices can be too close. For the wavelength to operate for some of these technologies, they need a minimum distance for the wavelength to be 'full'. (the mental image I have of this in my head tells me otherwise,.. like a wave on the ocean the up and down nature will happen.., but theoretically a bee cannot fly, and practically wifi has a minimum distance)
For the person asking about wifi hotspot times, I won't create another post until I can give something qualitative, but I concur that the large power draw of maintaining a high speed connection to the mobile phone towers is the big drain.
I found I could wifi hotspot for many hours and still have a very usable phone for the rest of the day... vs much every other android phone (y'know, regular phones with half the battery power), a couple of hours, four at most, was the limit.

AnonD-366797, 25 Feb 2015But 20MP camera, dual edge display, new fringer print scanner... moreAhead!? are you kidding me...?
What possible things can one modern phone do that another cannot?
It really is a case of different needs and choosing the right device.
Personally I think an HTC M7 is an 'ultimate' phone (bang for buck wise, and superbly stylish, excellent build and practical design, with nice handling.)
Otherwise I would probably choose the Compact Sony Z which has sealing, if that was the feature I needed.
What does one need a phone for? Ask this question.. then buy the phone that meets thy need.
Why did I go a Note device? Low SAR. This was my number one reason. This matters to me most. I then chose the Edge variant due to the usage needs of myself for a phone and tablet. As a tablet class device, the edge was a no brainer.. (us users of said device no doubt know why)(multitasking ease for the uninformed, as well as a plethora of other benefits)
Anyhow- I will take a 'bite' at this...
Best features?
I understand the S6 will not be weather sealed,.. though I base this information off quite possibly outdated reports from four or five weeks ago. (If so, I would choose a cheaper S5 or, as mentioned above, the Sony Compact)
crazy resolution.. dpi counts are extremely high.. the only practical use I could think of for this would be VR headgear. Though, sunlight legibility will no doubt be 'next level' and may compete against the (aged) Nokia 808 pureview.
Running with the VR concept as a driving factor to buy it.. The Mali graphics chip looks insanely powerful.
Just know that Android developers write for the largest market segment (not the top 4%). Whilst the graphics chips power sipping potential will be a boom for all users, the few that power game (ideally pushing the VR); it may be awhile before actual games come out to make use of the chip, and of those, who knows how many will be truly fun.
I put to you that the early adopters will no doubt have jumped ship to the next 'next gen' by this time.
But, certainly, yes, the CPU and GPU bench off the charts.
Outside of games I cannot imagine what purpose this offers the discussion.
For the record I have no games installed on my phone. I love my Vita and 3DS and Ninja PC. I would play Baldurs Gate on my Note 4 (Edge) as the S-pen makes it possible on such a small screen. This game is considered a classic, and I put many hours into it back in 1998. It would be the only time killer I could imagine putting on my phone.. and a phones screen is too small, so even though the requirements of the game are easily met, the only sub tablets that do it is the note line. (just trying to establish that fun does not require raw power, and that the Note lineup are versatile)
Knowing it isn't a Qualcomm chip, it might get a really nice Wolfson DAC,.. so it might have slightly better sound that a very small percentage of people would notice. I am an audiophile (my primary hobby, next to cameras), and I love the 'reduced' sound quality of my 805 chipset,.. so I feel this point is moot. Admittedly APT-X, when run with APT-X headphones does help sound quality, although I found that my non APT-X Sony MDR-1BTs sound much better off my Note than every device before them. The bandwidth of modern wireless methods has caught up with APT-X is my perception and VS lossless wireless I find bluetooth 3 quite acceptable.
The camera is a moot point. I would take lower MP on the same size sensor just about every time. I read that it is the same sony 240, but if the sensor was more 'sensitive' I'd give the win to the S6. Otherwise lower MP often equals less noise.
Two edges? I am perplexed. Why? I am an Edge user. One is enough,.. but I am willing to be enlightened. I am pretty creative, and I really cannot see ANY benefit that could outweight the engineering compromises this will bring. I do want to be proven wrong here!
improved finger print scanner? (I am happy with note 4s, when multienroling several fingers. greater than 95% success rate, so moot point)
So to recap,
increased speed,.. what are you people doing on your phones?
VR and battery life,.. hell yes!
Mali looks very nice and CPU benches off the charts.. realworld performance gain for games.. just remember that games manufacturers have to write for common denominator,.. by the time games come out to make real use of the power, the 'cutting edge' technologists will have 'moved on'.
bragging rights,.. Oh!
Damn people,.. just buy the phone that does what you need it to do.
Honestly there isn't a more veritable swiss army knife than the Note Edge.
For a regular phone I would go HTC M(whichever fits pricepoint).
Other option would be for a tough phone.
If S6 is Ingress Protection rated, then yay. If not, then it could be great for VR games or exceptional battery life.
Or for a smaller note experience for those that truly would never use an S-pen.
I am sure I have missed a few things, it is late and I am tired. let the flames begin!!
