Samsung Galaxy S10+

Just did an experiment.
As you may know, for Galaxy S10+ you need to (official explanation) connect it to a PC or connect a headphone to enter recovery mode.
Now, just 3.5mm jack headphone connection won't work (I tried), so must be through Type-C.
Now, the computer thing - it DOES NOT need a computer, any data connection will suffice: computer, car, modem, TV... As long as it attempts a data connection in any way.
Useful if you have your car nearby, but what if you don't?
Well, as per my previous post, I stated I have a Shanling UA3 DAC/AMP. Basically a sound card without a mic input, or an amplifier (it's got one per channel) with a DAC if you wanna be precise. But technically speaking, a headphone.
So I tried it with UA3. UA3 has a status light which shows when it's connected successfully as well as if it's using DSD and what sample rate it's using (ie. blue for 44.1/48 kHz, purple for 384 kHz and so on). It didn't show the status light when I tried it. But it DID enter recovery mode. Tried 3 times. And once it enters once, it will always enter until you boot up the phone.
Therefore, using a portable DAC/AMP also qualifies as a headphone and will allow you to enter recovery mode.

Rareart1, 07 Mar 2024I wish they'll release a sg g s10+ 2 model (with bet... moreI was hard-pressed to find any difference in sound quality between different DAC/AMPs, including the built-in 3.5.
I had iBasso DC03, AQUA Nexum (3 of them), Xduoo Link, and the one I have today, Shanling UA3. All broke of cable, DC03 I was experimenting with a Type-C splitter to see if it's possible to use it while charging, and it smoked.
The Shanling is the best overall, having a high power output on both 3.5 and 4.4 outputs (yes, it has 3.5 unbalanced and 4.4 balanced) plus a detachable Type-C to Type-C cable which means it won't die because of cable. It's aluminium machined very precisely. You can connect any device to it, not only your Android but your iDevice or PC/laptop too. iDevice does need a special OTG cable but everything else will use any cable (did I mention the cable is detachable?). The output is 125 mW@32 ohms for 3.5 and 211 mW@32 ohms for 4.4. It costs 109 USD on eBay. I'd say it has enough power for all but the most demanding headphones. It's a little bulky but perfectly portable.
Plus it has fake leather for 20 or so bucks so you can cover it from dents.
A DAC should be accurate. It's digital data converted to analog signals. Digital is the same no matter what. I can't say for others but for me, hearing differences is placebo. But power because of higher impedance and increased bass through effects so it doesn't clip? That's what it's for. And maybe if you hear hissing and need clearer signal.
Plus, UA3 supports DSD512 and 768 kHz.
I have used FLAC files with IE 800 S and ATH-M50x and could hear no appreciable difference. So personally, if not for power, they are a waste of money better spent on better headphones/earphones.
Instead, root, and use ViPER4Android, JamesDSP and jetAudio for effects. It's amazing the clarity and bass you can pull off that way.
Plus, go to AutoEQ GitHub webpage, copy the EQ parameters and paste it into JamesDSP's Magnitude response string to get neutral sound.
Or you can use JamesDSP rootless from Play Store, by using Shizuku through wireless debugging to grant permissions and get AutoEQ that way, plus all the effects. Or Wavelet, that also supports AutoEQ and more apps but not as much effects as James.
And if you REALLY need power, buy iFi GO Bar. It also has 3.5 and 4.4 but truly insane power, apparently capable of powering even 600 ohm headphones, but it's pricy. And portable too, like the UA3.

uniquedan, 14 Feb 2019I love it,they should release it quickly. I wish they'll release a sg g s10+ 2 model (with better wired and wireless charging and a quad DAC for wired that puts everything that has come before to shame, audio output high-end specs wise).

smiks, 06 Mar 2024how about the front cam?, pls answer ASAP thanks
I'm not an expert on cameras, but I think the pictures look nice.
The normal camera is 10 MP.
The zoomed-in one is 6.50 MP.
The zoomed-in camera video resolution is 3216x1808.
The normal is 2288x1080.
Tested using Open Camera.
The details are there IMO. Don't know about color accuracy or overexposure and such but the details themselves are good.

Anonymous, 04 Mar 2024Thanks! I appreciate you alot sir. Please permit me to turn... moreWell for music:
Lygisk
Audio Modification Library magisk module
JamesDSP magisk module (autoinstalls app after reboot)
ViPER4Android reverse engineered (gotta install the app manually)
You won't find better effects anywhere... But you need root.
You can use JamesDSPRootless from Play Store with Shizuku or ADB but it won't work for every app.
And jetAudio (some effects need to be purchased but all costs a few bucks, cheap) for excellent audio effects.
Combine James, ViPER and jetAudio and you're in musical nirvana.

And Shizuku to get kinda-root options.
But I'd personally sell it and settle for 8 GB Exynos version.
12 GB is also is S24U so that tells you something. The phone is fast... But personally boring without root.

When I checked the chipset on the phone it is a Snapdragon supported with version 12. The unfortunate thing is that I bought it brand new. Any advise please?

3ddymor3, 29 Feb 2024Which one is a better option between S24U and S10+?Honestly? If you're willing to root and experiment you can keep up to date. The phone is fast and has good multitasking abilities.
You get better cameras with S24U, a bigger battery, bigger screen, 5G, 45W charging, but lose MicroSD and 3.5mm.
I tried LineageOS 21. It has features such as scheduled charging that keeps it at 80% until specified time (this feature is improved from LOS 20 by the implementation of passthrough). Or you can set it automatic based on alarm. Or you can limit max charge permanently to any percentage.
The difference between this feature in LOS 20 and 21 is that 21 finally implemented passthrough, which means the phone takes in electricity without charging the battery, while in 20 it was done by cutting it off at 80 at turning it on at 79.
Did have to wipe data though. But that's what Neo Backup is for. This isn't for everyone.
Also the autorotate bug seems fixed. Dunno about memory killing bug when too awake yet.
And based on unofficial LOS 20 that was out before official, I'll be able to upgrade to official 21 when it comes out without wiping data.
Again, this kinda thing isn't for everyone. But you get features and snappy performance for it. Don't think that scheduled charging is implemented in this detail by any manufacturer's stock ROM. And there's also the option to disable USB data connections when the phone is locked or disable them entirely.
Overall, 21 seems stable. The only bug is when adding fingerprints but that's all I could find. And the imperfect UI when asking you for fingerprints for locked apps.
Also, backing up data for alarm and Trebuchet launcher (not APK, just data) succesfully restores everything even when the version is newer.
Again, for the third time, certainly not for everyone, but it does keep it a good contender with today's phones and it's fun. It's fast, cool, good battery life... The experience of a flagship, even if this one is 5 years old. Shame Samsung didn't open-source VoLTE and VoWIFI but oh well.

There's an official XDA thread for unofficial LineageOS 21 build (the official is still 20).
https://xdaforums.com/t/rom-unofficial-14-lineageos-21-for-galaxy-s10e-s10-s10-s10-5g-exynos.4640910/
LineageOS 21 is Android 14. Let me repeat it again, the S10 series can install Android 14.
Crazy.

Moolah, 15 Feb 2024Which one is the best between Samsung s10+ dual sim and the... moreBoth are the same specs-wise, except that Duos supports 2 SIMs. You won't be able to use a MicroSD and a second SIM at the same time though. The second SIM goes in the same slot where the MicroSD goes, just sideways and weirdly placed. Not all Duos are marked as Duos, some are some aren't.
If price is the same go for Duos as there's basically no difference except for support for two SIMs. Cannot comment on battery though between the two, as I've only had Duos but the battery life is good. I've mostly used the second slot for MicroSD as I have no need to use two SIMs.
