Hmm it's indeed possible to do it intentionally. Personally I'm not into believing such theories unless it's clearly proven. And some devices ARE good. Yet you may say they don't do it on all... however there's no proof to know this. I must say never been facing such bad drain on idle, though. 🤔

Anyway, it's clear there's some undesired background activity on your phone. The second possibility is some hardware (incl. battery) gone faulty. Nothing to lose, I'd discuss it with support/service center and ask for HW check or SW solution. A known user here officially reverted to Android12 that way some time ago. He said it would be possible in limited time period only, though. If all fails and you're deeply convinced it's a software issue (and no patch arrived), consider forgetting warranty and swapping SW on your own, custom ROMs and so. Guess it's better than phone laying in a drawer. (my experience on this rooting stuff is very limited)

One last idea is try SmartTutor. No idea if that thing's for any good but why not.

Anonymous, 27 Mar 2023I think also turning virtual ram off maybe helped a bit too Yes, did the same. Also turned off Virtual RAM as one of the first measures before I went with the more aggressive approaches (airplane mode, factory reset), but the 3%/hr battery drain on standby persists. It's probably a hopeless situation which only a software update from Samsung can fix - or just buying powerbank or a new phone (Pixel 7a).

Anonymous, 27 Mar 202310-12% battery drain overnight is borderline performance fo... moreYeah same here, brand new and heavily discounted, I do sorta recall setting it up before checking for any os updates getting 7.5hrs screen on time and since having ui 5 getting an hour or so less but I don't think it's much worse than the a52s it replaced..again the s20 fe has a better processor so was expecting the battery life to not quite be as good and like the a52s battery that slowly got better over time im hoping the same for the fe..

I agree the first 10 percent disappears pretty damn quick but seems to get better the lower it gets, my phone sits on 5g the entire time and don't have anything turned off (aod etc) and yeah guessing it would be about 10% maybe not even oven night so yeah 25% drain would be less than acceptable
Seems some people have stated 5.1 has improved battery life and others the opposite but I'd be on the phone to samsung and wouldn't get off until something was sorted out

Did all sorts of battery saving and optimization features including setting the refresh rate to 60Hz and turning airplane mode on, AOD off, wifi off, location off, etc., while the phone is on standby with the screen off. Even then, it still averages 2.75% drain per hour (22% battery drop overnight from 10PM to 6AM even when its doing nothing - and even in airplane mode). There's only one explanation: planned obsolescence. It's really easy to program software updates to keep the processor in performance mode even when the phone is idle. The same can be done to the gyroscope, ambient light sensor and other sensors - keeping them activated even if phone is idle for a long time with the screen off. Users are at the mercy of phone manufacturers. Imagine if EV manufacturers did the same to battery electric vehicles. There must be worldwide regulation against this.

                  ---
Yes, I had no battery drain issues under the previous software - Android 12. I guess Samsung is forcing users to upgrade because it's an old phone released in 2020. But the fact is, like you, I purchased my S20 FE just recently due to deep discount. Bought it really sealed and brand new. No signs of fake seals or seal tampering.

Recently just did a series of tests and found out it's really the latest software that's causing it. Shutting down a phone with bad worn out battery means even if it is 100% charged prior to shut down, when you boot it up after 8 hrs, it will be 90% or less despite the phone being shut down. I did this test on my S20 FE 5G and after 8 hrs of being shut down at 100%, it boot up at 100% still. After a minute, it became 99% and now (1.5hrs from being turned on) battery is already 95%. That's around 3.3% battery drain doing nothing. I thought only Xiaomi and Apple does this to force users to upgrade from an older phone. It seems even Samsung is now doing it. I regret upgrading the software. There's no way of rolling back because of Android's anti rollback feature. It will just brick the phone. And since there are no more software updates on the S20 FE, I doubt if this battery draining issue will ever be solved.

You may ask support if you can do it officially. If it doesn't help, it really looks like faulty unit.

I'm on one ui 5, from tomorrow I will have had the s20 fe 4 weeks brand new
I was a bit concerned as it was released late 2020 that the phone sitting in a warehouse somewhere for possibly over a year or more might affect the battery but mine seems pretty good, having said that it does seem like some days it lasts longer than other but I probably get 10-12 % drain overnight
But yeah if you said it was OK before 5.1 doesn't sound like a hardware problem?

I've turned off everything including set the phone to airplane mode from 10PM to 6AM. Nothing really running in the background or foreground. Still the same horrendous battery drain. It's still 2.75% / hr last night. It's really abnormal since review of battery usage last night shows no apps. I'll do again the test tonight and TURN OFF the phonr. From 10PM to 6AM. If it still drains 3%/hr, then it's the worst phone purchase Ive had in 10 years.

It must be in software itself, then. Like you said, rollback is an option. Another one is sit & wait. I truly don't believe they wouldn't fix it, since it's proven issue and indeed unacceptable to live with while there are users reporting good battery. Hence there must be a fix. Goodlock till then..

Anonymous, 26 Mar 2023Will it work on android 11 as well ?Go to samfw website and see. The bit / software revision / security patch level number must be the same for the current android 13 patch and the android 11 patch that you want to flash. In case for India (INS) the last android 11 patch has date of 01st November 2021.

In case of A52s 5G the bit / software revision number became 2 from the android 13 Feb 2023 patch instead of 1. At that time I didn't know about the bit numbers and all. A52s 5G had android 12 Oct 2022 patch (bit / software revision 1). I took the CP and home CSC from the android 13 Feb 2022 patch (bit / software revision 2) and flashed. The phone got corrupted and I had to flash the android 13 full OS Feb 2023 patch to return to normal. I am unable to flash the android 12 because of the android 13 bit number 2. Heartless samsung.
