On S20 you can choose high refresh rate if you whant to quick tap for the menu or gaming , but at least you have the options to switch it on higher resolution 1440p if you whant to watch a quality video , image or everything you whant to see . On S20 you can play games in 120hz on 1080p , but you can also watch high quality image , just that you can t have both at the same time , but you can choose what do you whant for the moment . On S21 you can only game on 120hz 1080p and use fast browsing but if you whant to see a quality video or photo what can you do ? Nothing

So you love featureless plastic low-res phones for €1K. Enjoy. Until you'll be asked €2K for 540px screens. For your own good, of course.

NixxxoN, 11 Apr 2021You are the official anti-samsung troll of the comments sec... moreI use Samsung long before android existed . And i had most of the s-series from the i9000 galaxy s1. And you know what keep me wanting to buy only Samsung and no other brand ?
Because of the display quality . Every S-series were better than the predecesor , some major update some minor . This is the first when the predecesor is better than the new one . S20 and s20 plus has better features compare to s21 and s21 plus . I argue and comment here because i whant people to know that if they only buy a phone because is the new model it can be a mistake because the new model is worst than the previos one.
1080p was a good resolution in 2012-2016 . They made it to 1440p since S6 , so why go back in 2021 to that i don t understand .

I have the s10e with 5.8 inch 438 pixel density more than S21 . I choose this phone because more than 6 inch for me is to big . But a friend of mine has s10 with 1440p , and the display quality is way better than mine , and this is a point that i would consider in future if the phone size will not get lower to buy a phone with that screen because of the display quality

Anonymous, 10 Apr 2021Specs war ? So all you care is that the display refresh rat... moreHi, whatabout VGA? I literally said more than 300 DPI.
I would go as far as to agree with Eyewrap, one comment before me, that 720 would suffice. At the screen ratio that would mean 1600x720 at 282.99 DPI at 6.2 inch. But that would be as low as I would go if the rest of the phone is perfect.
We will see what resolutions will prevail in the market in view of the end of the spec war on screen resolution. And we will see how it will relate to higher daylight readability. I would also not mid lower brightness for evening reading than is now supported. The only lower brightness capable display that I experienced was the Lumia 950 XL, but that might just have been a feature of the 518 DPI resolution giving less brightness overall.
I must admit that the S21 screen is not yet perfect in sunlight, but that is then true for the competition as well.

Great Display ? That Display w... moreIt's nonsense to put a higher resolution than 1080+ in this sinse, total nonsense, you just can't see any difference, and 2k drains battery much quicker, 2k is not only useless but actually BAD in this size.
8GB of RAM is totally enough, you don't seem to understand this subject man.
You are the typical who thinks higher numbers are always better, but it doesn't work like this.

S21 calendar is a step back compare to S9. The daily view cannot see the whole week date at the top. This make daily review extremely unproductive. Wonder why they do that?

On S20 if you whant to play or use very fast you cand choose 120hz 1080 but at least if you whant to watch some video in a quality has to option to choose 1440p and you can t compare the quality only if you don what to accept .

Per, 10 Apr 2021Hi there,
It is quite simple, after the spec war things se... moreSpecs war ? So all you care is that the display refresh rate to be high and the batter to last longer ? Then for you it would be ok a vga screen with 360hz will be ok for you ? Some of us care about quality of the display not just the fast how it can go ( Since the begining of Samsung galaxy s-series , they had the best display quality ) , and S21 series is the first time when a previos S-series S20 has better features than the new one S21. and don t tell me that you can see the difference betwin a 1080p display and a 1440p . If S21 had this specs and was called S21 FE or lite and cost 500-550 dolars it would be ok . But now the last model S20 is better and has lower price .
And another thing yes s20 has 120hz only on 1080p and 60hz on 1440p but still it has the options to choose , on S20 you can choose 120hz if you whant to game , or choose 1440p if you whant to watch something in high quality .

aaronwt, 09 Apr 2021Only for the screen. And if you run the S20 screen at 120hz... moreHi there,
It is quite simple, after the spec war things settle down. The spec war makes the competitors run to get the best specs in for advertising.
After the specs capabilities go over what is needed and all competitors can put in specs nobody needs anymore, The leaders can start optimizing the total experience of the device.
The key concept is diminishing extra utility of a higher feature value.
Diminishing extra higher feature value starts at these values:
* Resolution: above 400 dpi, arguably above 300 dpi (and yes there is a bit of subpixel arguing in there), Basically Samsung now punctures this bubble by optimizing at about 400, saves battery and allows for optimizing refresh rates.
* Back material: the spec war led to glass, now everybody can do that, and damn... plastic has technical advantages too, sturdier and cleaner, so techwar over. Besides that, a case makes it invisible anyhow.
* screen size: this spec race is ending in flag ship too by now. above 6.7, been there done that. I do not need a 'granny display size', and started preferring practical size and low weight too. Ideal weight is about or below 5-5.5 oz ~ 150 grams, while still having a decent screen size, and a height of the phone below 150mm. Screen size does seem to go hand in hand with the camera war, as a larger screen arguably 'creates' room for 'more camera'. But that will wane as well.
* storage vs SD slot: the storage war created the need for SD, years ago. high storage was expensive, but now the S21 comes with extra 128 (to 256) GB for $/€ 50 incl vat. So SD is not as important and the flexibility is diminishing in value. after 10 years of smart phones, one knows whether to go for the storage or not. Also the internal storage war made storage very fast, such that having an SD directly leads to noticeable slower access speeds that a manufacturer of a phone with high speed internal storage does not want for the customer.
* Charging/fast charging: this has been a tech war too. As fast charging is bad for battery life and I know (old) people that use 6 year old phones with original battery on slow charging below 10-12 watts, forget about fast charging. Chargers are everywhere these days. Night charging is simple. For ultra dumb days, a 10K Ah powerbank lets you charge twice anywhere for $/€ 10-20. War over.
* RAM: the RAM war is over guys. any manufacturer can do 16 GB now. It's a Phone, the optimum is between 4 and 10. 8 GB is probably nice, a slight extra drain on battery for most users, but 12 drains more battery and who needs that, really, a very small target audience.
* 3.5 mm jack. I know guys that use those, but most do not. It's a done technology, and probably better replaced by a good type C dongle if you really want high audio quality. For phone/voice, I say go bluetooth, that has been good for that since well before 2010. And the range since bt 5 has gone up dramatically, also in building, you can leave the phone and go for 20 meters with walls in between easily, even with decent 2012 headset. Bye 3.5.
* Chipset: this war continues but is boring. Manufacturers just use what's out there for the range of the phone. OK, ok some do produce competitor chips like equinos, but that is basically drive by the wafer stepper war to make them on.
* Curved/flat. this war is also over, Flat was cool (not even has been) because it makes the phone look smaller, but that was cool in the day of s6 , s7, maybe even s8. It had the advantage of making a large screen phone look slender. It has also been annoying because of reflections at the sides. To me that was the reason to avoid Samsung flagships until now, as others had flat screen variants in top models. Now that the slenderness advantage fades, any manufacturer can do it (source these screens) and costs diminish, curved screens will fade to being a feature of mid rangers for a specific target audience.
* heart rate, SpO2: too specific target audience, have that in a watch or other device. Never heard an S10 user even mention it. Same goes for step counter, much more logical in a watch, but as it is no burden, it can be left in a phone as a feature to switch on for non watch users. ANT+ is arguable. This might be a part of the Bluetooth module and not add bulk to the phone, which makes having this a point of indifference.
* CAMERA: OUCH, this spec war is still going strong. Yes I do want a compact phone with 10 x zoom on a 100+ Megapixel, 1 inch sensor with 1.2 aperture. This will remain a wish for years to come. In this light I decided to calm down and settle for present availability of the s21 base model. I am really done with holding a glass back phone with case weighing 9 Oz/260 grams all the time every day with everything I do with the phone, JUST FOR THE CAMERA.
To have 'more camera' and avoid a curved screen, I went several Chinese brands in a few years. All gave transition trouble when switching phones. Those gave issues with apps and app stores, as well as missed communications in those apps. So now I am staying with one trusted brand that gives software stability and easy transitions between phones as well as a UI that remains predictable.
* Conclusion: Samsung is just optimizing in the post war reality here. Good for them, good for the user.
Bye Spec war victims of here ;-)

That Display w... moreany resolution above 1080p, or even 720p for smartphone is just redundant. high resolution drains battery faster, and pixel density at 1080p on smartphones is far too high to notice any remarkable difference at higher resolution. you should be glad Samsung opted for a 1080p panel and lower the price instead of 2160p or something and make it cost $100 more

Anonymous, 08 Apr 2021I was talking about the display . S21 has the same display ... moreOnly for the screen. And if you run the S20 screen at 120hz, you are using the same resolution as the S21. And personally I'll take a flat screen over a curved one any day. The curved screens were one thing I never like about my S8 and S10. Everything else in the S21 is better than the S20. For pictures, my S21 definitely does a better job than my S10 ever did. And the S21 is super fast too.
For me, my S21 256GB unlocked was very inexpensive. Only $300 after the trade in of my S10. I have never paid so little for a Galaxy S phone. $300 was a sweet deal. And then they had 36 months no interest financing. But I will pay off my S21 before the next Galaxy S is released. Since I will get the S22 if they finally put the selfie lens behind the screen.
People have talked about overheating issues. But I have not run into any heat problems with my S21. Now my S10 would sometimes get so hot that I would need to remove it from my pants pocket. But I have not run into any heat problems with my S21. I record video at 2160P60 in HDR and use the native resolution of the sensor for picture taking.

Great specs ? What specs beside the cpu ? 8gb ram is not enough for a flagship with that price . You can buy at the same price s20 5g with 12gb ram 1440p display , micro sd
