SKy, 09 Mar 2024I never buy second hand phone, because the battery will be ... moreI've never had major issues with a second-hand used phone apart from the odd "poor battery life" in the S21 FE. That is why you have to scrutinize them very well. And most phones you can return anyway.
Nowadays it's not even practical anymore buying new phones. They will be pricey (especially if we are talking about flagships or upper midrange ones), software will have bugs and poor optimizations, etc.
I plan to return this to the seller. And get a OnePlus 10T or a Nothing Phone 2a instead.
Good idea? Any thoughts on that?

its a smurf, 08 Mar 2024seems pretty normal to me. Screen on time might be relative... moreI bought a used device on ebay, not exactly a refurb but a "like new" one.
When i installed a device info app the battery health was at "Good" despite being owned for a year i was told.
After 8 days of use I'll be lucky if i will still have 30% by 9pm. And if i go out and take lots of photos on day out or listening to podcasts or music for more than an hour (not even gaming or streaming) i'll be lucky if i still have 30% by 3pm. Screen on time is just over four hours now but it fluctuates really. but i don't exactly trust SOT on One UI really.
The 4G signal around my workplace is more than good so i keep my 4G connection. I always connect to wifi when I'm at home.
I do not use protect my battery as it "limits" the life to only 85%. And with my daily usage + battery drain by 6pm my battery would probably be dead.
I don't know what other settings to turn off or change on my phone as i feel i have done everything.
I'm planning to return it to the original seller as i still have a 2-week window to return before it closes.
What do you think?

Screen on time might be relatively low but youve been using backround tasks such as podcasts and music. I recommend you turn off whatever connections you arent using at that time (especially mobile data) . You can also use bixby routines to set it up so whenever your Phone connects to your home/work wifi it enables airoplane mode (and use wifi calling for calls)
Other than that you could have tried using the "protect battery" feature, but given you've probably had the phone for some time already (and thus the battery has degraded already) and you barely get by (battery-wise) as is, I dont reccomend it.

If you think it's new, just be aware that what is considered "New" on eBay is sketchy. I get easily 6hours screen on time, even more, but I am a light user. My experience with standby time is the opposite, I think Samsung overall have pretty poor standby time. iPhone and Pixel on the other hand have excellent standby. The ridiculous thing is OneUI 6 force closes certain background apps no matter what option you enable, even if you set the app to keep open, that's my only gripe with the phone though it's more to do with OneUI6 software, otherwise it's excellent.

Anonymous, 05 Mar 2024i do not have any problem. SOT 6 hours. So, you're telling me you don't have issues with your S21 FE? For how long have you had your phone? Have you turned on battery saving mode? Interested to know your answers.
Right now my SOT have increased to more than 4 hours. I've also noticed the battery life has somewhat increased to 3-5% on top of the numbers i mentioned earlier. And that is without battery saving on, doing almost the same thing i did the previous day. So, do you think the battery usage is balancing out and getting better?

I also totally agree. The S21 FE battery can be a lot better optimised even after everything i have done. I don't know what else to do to be honest.
Either i return the phone to the reseller on eBay, sell it outright on eBay for a higher asking price or trade-in for an old Samsung S23/S23+ or a Xiaomi 14?

So, as it stands i charge my phone to 100% overnight whilst wifi is connected.
Without power saving mode turned on these are my stats:
0600 - 100%
0900 - 88% after listening to a 25 minute podcast, looking for news/weather/ebay/social media
13.00 - 73% after watching 30 minutes of the news on Youtube
16.00 - 61% finishing work
19.00 - 40% after listening to another 25-minutes of a podcast, watching news on Youtube, social media, eBay, etc.
21.00 - As of writing this it's now down to 25% watching 30 minutes of Youtube (phone reviews), music and news on YT and writing notes. I did not do any gaming, long video streaming or any video editing.
Screen on time is just over three hours.
Any thoughts on these?

Samsung and Android apps are known for the too high background activity on every Android phone. Only: Viber, Gmail, Drive, Reminder, and Mobile Services are in default mode. I do not have any problem using all those apps while they are in deep sleep mode. I tested it for a year.
I do not use dark mode, not even at Samsung internet's google search engine.
I do use a blue light filter, i.e. Comfort Eye Shield because I look too much to screen over the day. Also, because of high default light screen brightness, I use it at 40%. Mobile data and WiFi are simultaneously always on. Battery easily lasts a day with around 6 hours of screen on time. When I do not use phone a lot it goes to even a day and a half. It is Snapdragon variant 6, 128.
