      dragonbeats, 24 Dec 2022Also I want to ask people's opinions on this: Which is... moreThe S21 ultra is way better and if you can get it cheaper that's a double win
      Definitely go for that

        Also I want to ask people's opinions on this: Which is better to buy coming from no phone at all:
        S21 Ultra or S22 Plus? I have been researching and testing them in-store but I can't make up my mind. Obviously the S21 Ultra is bigger and cheaper, but bigger isn't always better. Also the S22 Plus looks much better in my opinion.

            My reaction to previous comments:
            A smartphone is a kind of "swiss knife" . A "Jack of all trades, master of none" tool. The S22 replace for me a tablet (I'm myopic, I don't mind a smaller screen) , an mp3 player, and a digital cam. Yes I need my S22, as a phone. But I mostly use it for surfing, watching videos, and as a GPS.

            Recently I need an infrared cam, but it's unfortunately not supported by the S22. I might buy an other smartphone just for that, because an entry-level IR cam cost the same.

                Narazumono, 18 Dec 2022Then you're stuck in 2006 with that kind of mindset ... moreYes. They aren't just for calls and text. But let's be honest: flagship phones have become more about who can fit more tech into a small device (well, not anymore - manufacturers have decided to make phones nearly 7 inches - they're basically just tablets at this point, so this pointless obsession of turning a phone into a computer is just obsoleting the tablet market. People state this, but go back on it when it's convenient to defend the amount of bs put into smartphones).

                At the end of the day, the primary function of a phone is still to make calls. When the smartphone craze really kicked in, the iphone 4 caught heavy backlash because of the terrible antenna. "What's the point if you can't use it as a phone?". The truth is that MOST people just want a phone that they can use to call, text, and use for light media while lounging around without worrying about connection, lag, and running out of battery - for some older people, durability is more important than lag.

                Most of the people that comment this site are NOT the majority. They are the vocal minority, like the people you see reviewing video games that get poor reviews despite the sales numbers. RAM and refresh rate is important to me specifically - but for most people, they just want something reliable. No one cares about having some Apple M1 chip in a device where you can't even utilize that power in any useful or ideal way. And that goes for any device with 16GBs of RAM (lmao - you aren't doing video editing with a second monitor plugged in for references while speaking with a project partner at the same time. You will NEVER use anything close to 16GBs of RAM. You'd be hard pressed to reach 10 even when emulating a game with apps in the background. I know - I did this with the Tab S7 with much less RAM with zero issue. And I had Clip Studio running too. Anything more than 8GBs is pandering to the collector market of "I need the latest and greatest even though I have no actual use for it")

                It seriously concerns me how so many smartphone manufacturers are willing to put so much RAM in these phones, but PC/laptop manufacturers refuse to move on from the ridiculous 4GB minimum (and 8GB for "flagship/premium" devices). Windows 10 used 3.5MBs at stock and Windows 11 uses more than 4GBs - they're "usable" at best with 8GBs.. And if you need to actually do meaningful work beyond MS Office, 16GBs is the real minimum (laptops only have 2 channels for the most part, so 12GBs wouldn't work cause RAM sticks of different sizes don't work well with each other. A single stick sounds like it would work, but having multiple channels is always better - which is why 4x2 is better than 8x1, which manufacturers are moving away from - not that you asked or care).

                Case in point: there aren't professionals out there utilizing this hardware to their max. It's the few people using these devices for games, usually emulation, that come the closest to that. And they only push them to the limit because thats what gamers do. "How many FPS can i get in [game name] with the [device name]". Happens with anything that can game, whether a phone, tablet, desktop rig, or even retro devices. A guy put the playstation version of Tomb Raider on a Gameboy to see how it could run, then made optimizations just for the sake of it. It's novelty. And that's what smartphones are now.

                Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go use novelty device myself to download something I don't need

                          5000mAh in Xiaomi 12T Pro is bigger then 4500mAh in S22+, but does it really last for longer only because it's bigger? Well.. I don't know for sure, but if you compared their endurance ratings on this site you would know GSM Arena tested both and probably to your surprise S22+ has 97 hours of endurance rating vs 91h on Xiaomi 12T Pro. Here it is:

                          https://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=11252&idPhone2=11887

                          I don't know much about 12T Pro since neither do I or my closest ones don't have it personally. Of course I've seen some YouTube reviews and GSM Arena tests, but that's not quite the same thing as own it or hold it in your hands and use it for a while.

                          About camera set;
                          In the other hand, my wife has an S22+ with Exynos 2200 chipset and judging by the specifications of both Xiaomi 12T Pro and S22+, the latter one has a clear advantage in camera set, as all Samsung S series phones are coming with a dedicated telephoto camera with optical 3x zoom. And that ultrawide sensor on 12T Pro can't be compared with S22+ ultrawide sensor. I mean look at the size difference. 12T Pro and his tiny 1/4" sensor belongs to mid-range devices and it can't be compared with much bigger 1/2.55" sensor for ultrawide. And results for the main camera they seem very similar to me in basically every scenario except video, where S22+ has a lead over 12T Pro.

                          About screen;
                          Screen on S22+ is way more brighter with his 1750 nits in peak which is achievable basically just in theory, but it can achieve 1500 nits which is much better then 900 nits in peak on 12T Pro's screen brightness. In the other hand 12T Pro has a better resolution pushing for about 50 pixels more per inch then the screen of a S22+.

                          About battery;
                          Battery life is similar on both but as you can see from comparation S22+ has an slightly edge over 12T Pro.

                          Software;
                          Of course for some users, software support is something desirable so getting a 4 versions of Android and 5 years of support is a great news for those buyers. Also Samsung's One UI tends to be more stable over time, but as every One UI it's also a bit slower one, because of how heavy it is and it has too many Samsung's own bloatware.

                          About gaming;
                          Depending on a game you play but 12T Pro will probably get better results in gaming just because most games are optimized to run on Snapdragon chipsets. Meaning for example that all that brute force power on Mediatek newest chipsets doesn't matter much for gaming as like I mentioned most of games are being optimized to work the best on Snapdragon chipsets.

                          Have a nice day and try to use this site for phone comparations! Try to learn and understand what those numbers in spec sheet means if you want to help someone, because you will otherwise share a misinformation like you did now and not be helpful.

                              With that said 8 gb will be enough for most people but if you're a heavy user like me then you will need 12 or even 16 which unfortunately Samsung decided not to give to the S22 Ultra because they were greedy
