    no need to explain.

Is it true that the 8 gen 2 is more power efficient than 8 gen 1. I've heard the new chip has better battery life and no overheating issues.

It's ok, obviously the S23 series will be an upgrade from the S22 series but doesn't mean the the S22 series are bad or aren't holding up.

After a day of running benchmarks, taking lots of photos, recording videos and streaming YouTube videos as part of my review testing, I still had 46% of my battery left by 9:45 p.m. That's not so bad when you consider the Galaxy S22 sometimes had 30% to 40% of its battery left by around 9 p.m. after using the phone heavily throughout the day. I also left the adaptive refresh rate setting turned on most of the time I spent with the Galaxy S23.

Pretty Terrible - but the best option out there

Coming from the S9, the S22 feels like a downgrade in every way. The key for me is the notification LED Samsung has been known for forever, and the headphone jack. While the headphone jack is something well known, its still a negative, but the notification LED being removed makes this phone borderline unusable for me. It will be something I learn to live with I am sure, but during this first week I am extremely tempted to swap my sim back into the S9.

Screen is comparable to the S9, really cant tell much of a difference. Battery is better, but not so much better than a 4 year old phone to be impressed. They removed the "virtual button" to wake the phone, so have to build muscle memory to find the screen finger print sensor (which is in the lower middle of the phone vs bottom edge, which was easy) instead of having a physical one, or use the side button all the time which is not something I am used to. The removal of the curved edges make the phone feel worse in the hand. The power button is no longer a button, it is now a "side button" that requires that pressed and the volume down to restart your phone.

A lot of android stuff has updated to make the phone worse, as well as samsung's take on it, like the secure folder always showing a notification that it is locked. Could complain about it all but nice thing with software is most of it can be adjusted or just deleted.

This isnt a comprehensive list, but put it this way - we all need to move on from the S9 and S10 just based on processing power at some point. The S22 feels like a downgrade from a 4 year old phone, and im sure the S23 is the same, but all the other androids and iphones do the same. Maybe we will be blessed with an S25 internals put in an S9 body in the future like apple did, but unless that happens we just have to deal with these manufacturers making significantly worse products than 4 years ago.

Broda, 14 Feb 2023Would you recommend the Galaxy S22, Pixel 6 Pro or Xiaomi 1... moreS22 would be ideal because of its software updates and the Snapdragon processor. On the other side, Pixel 6 pro has 1st gen Tensor chip, which has few heating issues and other problems. Overall the software experience provided by Google is great but on the other hand, Samsung cameras are great too and they provide 4 years of OS upgrades now.
