Anonymous, 25 Feb 2023To record 4K video you'll need at least 40MB/s , 8K vi... moreYou confused MB/s (megabytes per second) with Mbit/s (megabits per second).
        1 MB/s = 8 MBit/s.

On many phones that used the h.264 AVC video format, 2160p (4K) bitrate was 48 mbit/s, meaning 6 MB/s. This is apparently where you got your "over 40 MB/s" figure. You confused it with mbit/s.

The rate is lower with the novel H.265 format, also known as HEVC (high efficiency video coding), at the same quality due to efficiency improvements.

If 8K 4320p needs 100 mbit/s, that's 12.5 MB/s. Still well within the range of pretty much any MicroSD card.

The internal storage chip has faster speeds because it is not restricted to a form factor. High-end full-sized SD cards can also reach speeds well beyond MicroSD, but a smartphone with full-sized SD card slot is a distant pipe dream.

And most importantly, you won't be caring about the "3000 MB/s" internal storage when your phone refuses to boot.

Lack of 3.5 mm jack can be replaced with usb c earphone, but microsd slot is a MUST in a phone.

Putting the phone with USB-OTG attached into a pocket could cause the connector to bend, so it has to be carried in the hands during a file transfer.

MicroSD has no negative effect on ergonomy, since it is located inside the device.

But other that you can restore them if you use a good software. I learnt to keep everything in flash drives. Because your phone may need a factory reset and your laptop may need a reinstall. So I don't say that micro sd cards are useless. But they won't return. Never. Never. Never. Just move on and use everything that you have.

UFS 4.0 mounted on the S23 Ultra writes up to 3000 MB/s making even the most advanced, expensive SD card look prehistoric. And we're talking about SD cards that cost hundreds of euros. In almost 15 years using smartphones I have never got my data broken (not even 10 years ago with lame eMMC from chinese brands) but I have had 2 SD cards that got corrupted and their data was unaccesible.

You when a bug in Google's file manager that a thirteen-year-old kid could have designed suddenly deletes your DCIM folder while you just tried to move it, and you can't use data recovery software from your PC because it happened on internal storage, which lacks block-level access from the PC.

                      Have fun with that.

MicroSD can skip MTP because it is a mass storage block device.

"On the actual phone. The built-in storage. Where else? It does not even have a memory card slot, just like that iconic american phone brand. Cupertinan, to be specific."

Even the super expensive black SD cards don't come close.

In my case, I have bought S23 Ultra 1TB for 1.200€ brand new from Samsung (the official Samsung store in my country had a very big pre-launch discount and they even gave me 150€ for a 2016 worthless phone I've traded) so the final price has been 1.209€ with 1TB of the fastest storage ever. And it supports USB 3.2 which is the fastest USB technology - so all is safe in my PC within seconds. I don't need any SD card.
