Phones without 3.5mm jack are rubbish, period.

Voiceofreason, 14 Feb 2023You have a fair point. However can't you use a dongle ... more:)

Brands start trends that we're supposed to pay for and I keep noticing awful design choices in the smartphone and computer industry, that's only my POV though.

Like any I won't adapt to those trends, I'll buy another brand new S8 or s8+ as soon as I find one so I have my dream music player for another 5 years or decade :) Because of the sd card. The new phones made since say 2018 don't seem to bring anything worth paying 1000€+ for in my opinion, except for people who need a powerful handheld terminal I guess. Camera quality is not what is advertised at all, and once they have made that move they lose the customers, trust is gone. Quality cameras have become cheap and brands could afford them. Look at an iphone 14 pro that is better and sharper than most, it is the same, you pay for 48mp and get photos that you will need to resize down to 24mp Max., and to retouch with knowledge if you want decent quality, meaning their 48Mp hoax is not any decent. Same about other brands except for a couple overpriced phones.

I just mean it's all really disappointing and their marketing choice is bad, that 200mp won't allow photos to bear decent focus in most cases, that's about 1/16th of a photo that's in focus, the rest being an ugly soup made of blurry zones. On the samples you can see it doesn't give you better sharpness than other phones. I've been hoping to get myself one of those recent top-notch phone cameras and got to disappointed by crooked products

Voiceofreason, 13 Feb 2023Seems you are a hater of Samsung. I will counter your point... moreI bet they still use dirt cheap wired earphones with trash sound quality. They cry so much that seems like they use some serious in ear monitors but low to zero possibility. And yes now even cheap tws earbuds sound great.

wuvy, 14 Feb 2023can anyone recommend me a flagship or midrange android phon... moreYou choices probably would be:

Samsung galaxy s23, Xiaomi 13. I would wait for more new phones with snapdragon gen 2 because it's very good chip and more future proof than previous gen. Maybe Sony would surprise us with small good phone. But I doubt it will surpass S23 or xiaomi 13.

wuvy, 14 Feb 2023can anyone recommend me a flagship or midrange android phon... moreSAMSUNG S22 ultra or S23 ultra

PhoneFreak45, 13 Feb 2023Cons: - No headphone jack - No expandable storage - Char... more- "No headphone jack": I wish people would get over this... ALL phones will eventually have no headphone jack, as most people these days use earbuds or wireless headphones - there's a reason why the top brands got rid of the headphone jack...

              - "No expandable storage": again, most companies are moving away from this... it frees up more space and there's cloud-storage now. And if you prefer physical storage (I do), just go for a model with bigger storage ... they're not that much more expensive. And you can sell your SD card to help pay for it too 😉

              - "Charging is slow compared to competitors with 67 watt or even up to 240 watt charging": I mean... you can still get nearly 70% in 30 minutes, and a full charge in under an hour... waaay quicker than the latest iPhone

              - "Large size may mean it may not fit in the pockets of some users, especially female users who's jeans tend to be have small pockets for no reason": This is crazy... because SOME people will find it too big, it's a "con"!? I love the size of it... the bigger, the better. If someone has small hands or can't cope with it, then they can go for the S23 or S23+... the rest of us shouldn't have to have a smaller phone too.

can anyone recommend me a flagship or midrange android phone? I don't know anything about android.
I need a second phone mainly usage was for playing emulator and RPG maker games.
what I need is fast performance and similar weight to iPhone 14, don't really care for camera software updates since it will be my secondary phone. I don't mind secondhand or refurbished phones. also optional but I appreciate it if it supports one (display out)

Voiceofreason, 13 Feb 2023Seems you are a hater of Samsung. I will counter your point... moreI think the custom software issue is abt the bootloader being locked on samsung devices, wich is bad if you want to root your device, definitely not something that my aunt might care for, but I doubt that weirdoes that use gsmArena on the reg have the same level of tech literacy/needs as my aunt, and it's nice to know wich phones you own hardware+software and wich you don't. Especially on enthusiast websites

Voiceofreason, 14 Feb 2023You have a fair point. However can't you use a dongle ... moreRN I am sure that on Oneplus 11 you can still use basically any dongle, but on Pixels you need something that has a dac built in.

Idk what's samsungs behaviour, but if people don't keep pressuring manufacturers to keep this features idk why they should keep them in 5 years.

At the moment I have both a usbC dock [for SD card at minimum, but obviously it has a few extra usb c, few extra usbA and other connectors that might be useful] and a Fiio q3 DAC (to replace the hpj) and I might need an upgrade either this year or the next (sony pulled out of my market last year so yeah), but I will forever hate this companies for not understanding that they don't have the brand cachet to ape apple's idiocy.

FlagshipsSuck, 11 Feb 2023Cry me a river lmao. Oh no, some other brands actually mana... moreSo lets compile what happened in this thread, shall we?

                      - You complained about the 128GB then got rekt with the Xiaomi 13 Pro getting 128GB and the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra starts with 256GB which makes it even better. 0 acknowledge.

                      - You complained about ads, yet chinese garbage brands (like the ones you love = Vivo and Xiaomi, which are inferior in every aspect to Samsung) use waaay more / much more.

                      - The Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra is superior to the Vivo X90 Pro Plus in: Cameras, Video, Screen, Battery, Extras, Hardware in overall... As well as Software, Updates and unique features like the S-Pen. It seems you can't handle this reality so that's why you bark and cry so much "ScamDung" in all of the Samsung related articles. Specially here, as it's the KING of 2023 smartphones. ;)

ledirlo, 13 Feb 2023it's not my discussion but most people, like me, would... moreYou have a fair point. However can't you use a dongle as someone suggested a few comments below? It would still perform the same function as having an audio jack.

With regards to micro SD card. One would have to adapt because eventually the Samsung S8 would stop receiving software and security updates. So, then what would you do? I know it's annoying. I had this same mindset like you, but once I tried cloud storage, it's not so bad. It works just as good as SD Card storage.

Bought it from NZ for my wife. Cream colour 256gb 8gb ram I guess.
I'm an apple user and using 14 pro max for main.
Anyway. I think this is a huge step forward android territory so good job Samsung. really satisfied. No charger, No SD card slot and No headphone jack but I am used to it. (of cause I am apple user)
Smooth as a butter, camera, battery life, performance etc.

Now I feel under iPhone12 models are looking terrible without 120hz refresh rates.

Voiceofreason, 13 Feb 2023Seems you are a hater of Samsung. I will counter your point... moreit's not my discussion but most people, like me, wouldn't trade their old S8, that is their awesome music player with the greatest improvement technology has given us, the micro sd card, for a recent smartphone without any sd card slot. Most buyers, who are not young, prefer that "old" technology along with an audio jack, and brands are wrong regarding their design choices.
bad design has ruled the smartphone and computer industry for a while

Waited long time to upgrade. From Note 9. Didn't regret it at all.
One thing that I'm maybe missing is SpO2 meter and heart rate monitor. Nothing else. Yes it doesn't have 3.5 mm jack, but buy a dongle.

Someone said the shutter lag can be fixed using a Gcam port with no drawback.

is that true ? Also can you also shoot full-size raw images ? Because given smartphones give you images that are useable when scaled down to say at the most 50% of their size, if gcam let you shoot raw files it could make the camera interesting.

                                Thank you in advance

PhoneFreak45, 13 Feb 2023Cons: - No headphone jack - No expandable storage - Char... moreSeems you are a hater of Samsung. I will counter your points.

-No headphone jack: There are hundreds of cheap wireless headphones to buy now. This excuse has become redundant.

                                  - No expandable storage: We have cloud storage now and no more in the dark ages. We have all the storage we need now.

                                  - Charging is slow compared to competitors with 67 watt or even up to 240 watt charging: Don't be ridiculous. Samsung 25 watts charger will charge the phone in 1 hour and 10 minutes and the 45 watts charger charges in 59 minutes. This is more than enough and people who use 67 watts charger and above risk battery deterioration. I think Samsung has the right balance. It's fast enough, but not too fast to destroy battery in the long-run.

                                  - Base model only has 8GB of RAM, enough for most uses cases but could become an issue in the future: This might be applicable to older Samsung devices, but with the improvement in One UI, Samsung premium devices do not slow down anymore.

                                  - No official support for custom operating systems like in Google Pixel phones:. What do you mean by this?? Samsung has the best software in android. Better than pixel's and they have improved considerably in updating their devices on time recently.

                                  - Large size may mean it may not fit in the pockets of some users, especially female users who's jeans tend to be have small pockets for no reason:. This is just a lame excuse. Common really? Every phone maker literally have a large phone. It is what it is. Samsung makes a bad-boy in their ultra and they are usually fantastic. I have seen a lot of ladies with the ultra.

                                  - Pricetag is considerably more expensive than premium handsets from other brands, such as Motorola, Xiaomi, OnePlus, or Google:. Please don't put those brand in the same sentence as Samsung. Samsung S series only competition is the iPhone.

Anonymous, 12 Feb 2023please... this is nitpicking. "Older" wifi modes ... moreThe chip supports Wifi 7. Then, why not enable it ?

PhoneFreak45, 13 Feb 2023As I write this I'm at 78% with 2 hours 20 minutes of ... morePlease don't be ridiculous. You have to do a proper battery test, not the one that you charge your phone in between and then claim it has good battery life.

What you need to do is charge your phone to 100 percent then check the battery screen on time and make sure that it's at 0 percent. Then you can start the test to see how much screen on time it will have until the battery run low. No disrespect to the LG V60, but I do not believe the screen on time you claim you have. Only the iPhone 13 pro max and 14 pro max has that kind of battery endurance and now the S23 ultra has joined the party. Several battery tests on YouTube would testify to the great endurance of the S23 ultra and my current test would testify to that as well.

Navneet, 13 Feb 2023a phone with literally no cons! hat's off to Samsung Cons:
