Anonymous, 10 Apr 2024I don't know why people complain about the dispay. Sam... moreConsidering there seem to be a lot of people complaining about the same things - graininess and washed out colours, I would think that *some* of the S24 Ultra screens must be performing worse in this regard.

However one explanation I can think of is perhaps all the screens are about the same but only some people are noticing it either because they are literally just switching from a different point of reference that has a screen that is either objectively better to them or actually does perform better in ways they appreciate more. Or they notice it because of the way they use i.e. myself preferring low brightness and dark mode where the graininess seems to be worse.

Maybe some people don't notice the graininess because it's not something their eyes actively zone in on. You mentioned bleed on the curved screen, just had a look at my S22U and the screen edges are indeed a little brighter than the rest of the screen. I've not paid any attention to it before and it doesn't seem to be something that sticks in my mind. The graininess and colours of the S24U however are something I notice every time. So just goes to show that people respond differently to various screen characteristics.

There is a tiny bit of grain even on the S22U if I really look closely in a dark room but it's so subtle that I can't notice it unless specifically looking for it. On the S24U it's noticeable regardless. So that is the other explanation - that some S24U units have screens that perform worse. Whether they are within Samsung's spec but worse or a genuine faulty batch of screens I don't know - will be interesting to see what Samsung say as I am going to raise it with them.

My network's tech support weren't helpful in the end, all they did was run Samsung's own diagnostic on the phone and when that came up clear they said there's no point sending it to their repair centre if there's no actual fault and it's just a case of disappointing quality. So they just told me to go and contact Samsung. But the advisor that ran the diagnostic on my S24U could even admit seeing the graininess on the screen. She did say they had no customers return any to their store though so again that may point to my unit being worse than the general standard.

I did show the S24U and S22U to a friend to check that I wasn't being overly critical and picking up on something that a normal user wouldn't be able to see, and he noticed the difference straight away. He also compared it to his own iPhone (15 Pro Max I believe) and we could see that the iPhone screen looked a lot more pleasing compared to the S24U, but similar to the S22U.

With regard to the curved screen...definitely a personal preference. I like the way it looks and it feels a lot more comfortable to hold in my hand too. Ideally Samsung would make both a flat and curved variant available to customers, or perhaps alternate each year as you're not getting that much of an upgrade for just one generation so I'm sure many people would be happy to wait 2 years to upgrade to their preferred screen.

S10+ had many features of S21U and I don't use cameras that much. And the performance was top-notch. Apps installed fast. No lag. Fast overall. Every app worked quickly. Plus reprogrammed Bixby button through LSPosed using Physical Button Master Control.

Also what's 30 minutes more with fast charge as compared to super fast charge. Plus 3.5mm allowed for music while charging.

Also my internet is not fast enought for wifi 6 or 7. Though I use MiXplorer for FTP server with static IP set up and saved config in FileZilla, and wifi ac 5 ghz allow 30 MB/s, which I use on my S21U to transfer everything to PC, and have to constantly add playlists, new songs and Neo Backup in case of system reset in addition to cloud with FolderSync.

I miss the SD slot because no need to sync. But even though I got used to it, the ability is important, as I said, I had to redownload from Google Cloud for more than 4 hours on fastest internet I had, on a nearby hotel with 10 MB/s internet. Instead of instant access, I had to transfer all music back, and download Neo Backup files plus additional music I synced.

Do you still find your S10+ being on the same level with current flagships(performance wise)?
I think the issue of lack of an SD CARD slot alone is not enough for someone to choose S10+ over S24U 1TB or even the S23U 1TB. With current flagships we are now talking about Super fast charging(rather than a mere fast charging). We now talking about 5G connection(unlike the LTE), eSims, Periscoped cameras(with 1" sized sensors), WiFi 7 e.t.c
No matter how best you can root your S10+ it can never support as many features as the current flagships(from 2023 up to now). Even a Magic 5 Pro is a way better than any 5 year old model. Any amount of storage greater than 256GB is not so small to spend every moment of time worried about lack of SD Card slot.

I never use my phones at zero brightness in a dark room anyway.
The vivid mode may not be very different from the natural mode, but personally, I don't consider this a flaw.

I'm coming from the S22U too and think the display is fantastic. The glass isn't as glossy or shiny, so I think the display might depend on one's eyes and colour preference (eg. I've never been keen on Vivid mode/colours - even on my S22U, I had the screen on Natural mode).

So that means not all. All according to this here: https://www.androidcentral.com/phones/galaxy-s24-grainy-mura-problem-reported

So that means your warranty should cover the replacement of the screen.

I feel like its a downgrade, but as time progress my eyes becoming more comfortable to the warmer colors. Im coming from s22u so my eyes are used to cooler and vivid colors. Another thing that i dont like is the s pen,i hate the color of the s pen for the purple version,it doesnt color match with the s pen. I also found the device to heat more than my s22u. I dont know why.

I also use cloud with FolderSync to autosync it all, but why not both? Also, cloud download is slow accessing files, so while a single file is fast to download, accessing another one takes time, which is why a 14 GB download took over 2 hours even with 10 MB/s download speed.

As well as FTP, sFTP, SMB, S3 and WebDAV.

As well as syncing folders from local device (for example, from internal to MicroSD).

Try it if it works, and if you like it, buy it. It's cheap. Free version supports I think up to a few sync options (called FolderPairs).

You can set a scheduled time (or days of week, or multiple times a day), to only sync on charging, only on WiFi, and two-way sync in addition to only standard one-way sync.

You can also backup and restore settings.

I set it to only display an error notification in case something is wrong and that's it. If it works nothing, if there's something wrong it's an error and that's it.

Also pCloud where I have 2 TB lifetime and that doesn't support sync either. Support was offended when I asked. "Of course SD card sync functionality is not supported"

What would be the cons of having it?i dont think so speed and reliability. My OLD sd card from s7 edge is still alive and i have used it till my s20u,note9,s8 plus. Now its useless because of people like you who thinks they know what is useful to someone. We are all consumers,if you dont use something it doesnt mean someone is not using it. Anyhow if its not coming back im not worried also Because I dont need a 1000usd phone just to use it for YouTube,fb,tiktok, instagram and casual emails.

                                        3. Maybe if you put apps there, but NEVER had it slow down my S10+, and with a PC using a MicroSD reader supporting UHS-III (or UHS-II, whichever is fastest and exists today) transfer speed was 130 MB/s, it would be close to 300 MB/s with a UHS-II compatible card
