The Critic , 18 Jan 2024We don't need to hear the cries of people stuck in 201... moreI stopped buying Samsung at Note 10 when I had the experience that I must have SD card and 3.5mm jack in a phone. I check in every 2 years to see if they got their act together but so far no dice. I don't care about the 1% improvement in hardware Samsung makes when the missing features are many times more important. Samsung is now merely an Apply copy with Android OS. If I could do away with all the features Samsung dropped over the years then I would just go Apple. Might as well get the one everyone copies. Luckily there are other Android makers that understand SD and 3.5 jack are needed to get market share. Samsung just dropped behind Apple in market share, first time in 15 years, wonder why.

    The only changes of s24 ultra is titanium frame, 50mp telephoto camera, Chipset, and display.

                I am looking for a 2nd phone. (primary phone is Iphone 12 pro max) I don't wish for it to be expensive. I saw the Samsung S24 Ultra. Would paying more $$$ for S24 Ultra be worth it or would the S20 Ultra work just fine?

                  Now I'm at a stage of over-saturation on the S24 series.

                  The biggest thing I have taken from all these videos and presentations is that, this is a handset which utiilise AI to wield convenience and functionality over standard methods of mobile usage.

                  The camera setup is nothing unique however it is giving the average person the ability to take great photographs. I still feel anything beyond fixed zooms are gimmicky. No AI can replace a true optical lens especicially at the sizes used and accompanying sensor technology.

                  On a side note, if Samsung ever improve their setup in the camera area I would do a couple of things. Remove the two separate zoom lenses and have one variozoom periscope lens which ranges from x2 to x5 with a larger sensor if possible. Also the main sensor could be a bit bigger and make it 50 MP Quad Bayer as everybody knows 200 Mega pixel is a gimmick. You can only effectively use this resolution on Large Format sensors from the likes of Phase One who currently only sell up to 150MP cameras.

                  What I do like about the refresh is, it seems like the Samsung development team are trying to break new boundaries by giving users the ability without compromising your bank account.

                  I've read some the comments about the design and aesthetics and it's like arguing about the colour of farts in the dark if you ask me. The screen viewable is measured from corner to corner. Or indeed a square root of the area between the bezels and the stats provided for marketing are more likely to be rounded for easy display of information more than anything.

                  I would love Samsung or any third party to create a photo case for this where you can attach photo filters for different effects not directly acheivable by software alone.

                  Also at some stage it would be great if they allowed for the playing of higher quality audio files in the future such as MQA, DSD, DSF. This may require more hardware support from Qualcomm and Samsung themselves. FiiO Digital Audio Players and Sony NW players run on Android so it can be done.

                  At this stage in my life I don't care much about the colour or how clashes with my clothes. Although in retrospect, maybe the DAP players should just do what they do best whilist mobile phones do what they do.

                  Any opinions?

                      OMG how delusional are some Samsung h4ters...

                      "No one will buy this phone"

                      Real life: S24 Ultra 1TB is out of stock in 6 out of 7 colors in most major European countries. I have tried to buy a S24 Ultra 1TB Blue since 9 AM and it's 9 PM (Spain) and no restock. Very few people were lucky to reach the few restocks.

                      This reminds me of the PS5 launch, but in a delusional hat3r world no one wants S24 Ultra despite its being out of stock and each time they put new stock it lasts few minutes and I'm talking about 1TB which is the most expensive one LOL!!!

                        Interesting.

                        Non-curved display and 13:6 (19.5:9) aspect ratio (not that irregular 193:90). Even though it's big because it's also an handheld electronic canvas.

The... moreI know bro, I am also android user specifically samsung since note series were first launched but software companies should make attempts so that atleast the imei couldn't change. More recently i am facing wifi connection failed issue in offline mode on s23 ultra. I am waiting for ui 6.1, hope it will fix. If not, will shift to apple.

                            Also, why would you trade in one of the best Android phones, with clean stock Android, for something just slightly better?
                            I mean, yeah, S24U is more powerful, but you already knew that Pixel 8 Pro is not a very powerful phone (compared to SD phones). So, I am guessing is not only because of performance. Also, I am guessing the software customization that Google is doing with the Pixel phones is better than what Samsung is doing with the One Ui. Or at least, this is my feeling.

                            I would have understood if you came from some iPhone or some older Samsung phones. Did you had problem with the Pixel 8 Pro, or why did you sold it? I am curious now, because I was actually thinking of buying that phone over the S24U. In Czechia the Pixel 8 Pro cost much less than the S24U. Maybe 400EUR less (for the base models). Of course, the S24U will probably come down in price at some point in near future, but I am not expecting more than 150-200EUR discounts. Still more expensive than the Pixel 8 Pro.

Apple just have good marketing and fanbase, that is one of the things that gave it good value, let apple outsource IOS and see if it will remain in the market for long lol.

                                        jiyen235, 18 Jan 2024Can anyone tell me who makes the screen to body ratio figur... moreYes there definitely something seriously wrong with the screen-to-body ratio calculation, for example, it doesn't make any sense that the iPhone 15 with thick bezels and a huge dynamic island gets 86,4% while the S23 with thinner bezels and a small camera cutout gets almost the same ratio (86,8%).

                                        With the S24 Ultra the explanation is pretty simple tho, now it has a flat screen instead of a curve one
