AnonD-9894, 16 Feb 2015Don’t buy Samsung. Don’t buy any Samsung product. They are ... moreWhat happened to you is unfortunate, that's for sure.
But the problem is that i can replay "S5" in your text with any other phone.
Without disrespect, i've already got those kinds of story around me, because it's the way it is nowadays for most of all phones (excepted Apple).
I advised my cousin to buy a Xperia T 2 years ago when it was just out.. I won't tell the story, but he had to go through repair service like 3 or 4 times before finally giving up.
Same for a LG Nexus 4 of my neighbor.
Same for my buddy with its Xperia X8 4 years ago.
Same for a colleague 2 years ago with a S4...
Same for my girlfriend with her iphone 4 2 years ago (warranty had just expired).
The list can go on.
So you got disappointed but you have to tell yourself that it was only bad luck for it and don't make a general case for Samsung devices.
And as O-J said, your battery getting depleted half of a day is not normal. Check even gsmarena's blog to confirm that you are having personal troubles. S5 is in front of all current flagships when it's battery related.

Anonymous, 16 Feb 2015I regret buying this phone. That's the bottom line.
It off... moreMy friend I too had an S2 which I recently sold. I liked the S2 in so many ways. It was clearly the best phone I ever owned compared to my previous phones and it was ahead of it's time as most other companies just played catch up to the S2.
Where the charging port is concerned, I won't complain about that because my Nokia E73 had a USB cover flap as well which I had to open every time to charge or to connect the phone to a PC. So this is not a first for me.
As much as I enjoyed my S2 I would have to say the S5 is a nice upgrade for me. First of all the battery stands out. It lasts much longer and charges much quicker. My S2 usually took 3 hours to charge (0-100%) while the S5 only takes 1 hour 55 minutes (0-100%). You said your battery runs down quickly, do you have your sensors turned on (air view, smart stay, smart pause etc.)...one day I turned on all of my sensors and the battery depleted fairly quickly. Ensure they are all turned off.
However, I think the S2 took smoother photos in general and the display seemed a tab bit better (mainly more satured colours) due to the RGB Matrix the S2 sported. The longer lasting battery and quicker charge is enough for me to consider the S5 a good upgrade.

I regret buying this phone. That's the bottom line.
It offers little change IMO over my previous S2 in terms of innovation. This may be a good thing (if it ain't broken, don't fix it), however: The battery life sucks (it turns off mid day without me interacting with it too much), I don't feel it is more responsive than my S2 (which I loved by the way), and the water protection, while sounding cool is annoying: opening the lower lid to charge is annoying. If I ever go to the swimming pool, I can just put my phone in a plastic bag...
It is loaded with samsung bloatware, as usual.

Don’t buy Samsung. Don’t buy any Samsung product. They are all poor whether they are high end or midrange devices. Their customer service is extremely and surprisingly poor.
This is my story with the S5. The phone that I chose over the Sony Z2 just because I used to love Samsung:
1- The phone was randomly rebooting every week or two since day one. It doesn’t depend on the weight of usage. When I got sure it was a hardware problem, 3 weeks had passed since I bought the phone and the customer service refused to replace the device and I had to learn to live with the problem :-(
2- After 8 months of usage only complaining of the random restarts and the improper closure of the battery cover, I had to return the device to the customer service when I had some constant dead pixels in the camera sensor.
3- They replaced the camera, thank God. And they said they had fixed the battery cover and they didn’t notice any restarts. They said they replaced the screen, the thing that surprised me as they didn’t inform me before they replace it and the original screen was just fine. Anyway, I noticed that the camera glass cover was dirty from inside, so I had to leave it for one extra day to get it cleaned.
4- I went to receive the phone the next day. I was extremely unhappy when I saw some ink smudges on the battery cover and some scratches around the metal frame cornering the camera glass. I took it home, extremely unhappy with the service, but didn’t want to return the device to them and live that misery again.
5- When I used the phone at night, I noticed leakage of light from the lower right corner of the screen and the screen itself was so far from being clear, completely different than the original one. The camera glass wasn’t fixed well, I could remove it with my finger. There were still a gap between the frame and the battery cover, although they said they had fixed it. All these beside they could do nothing with the random restarts.
6- I felt I got enough of that. I had to return to Samsung and told them I wanted a new device as they don’t know how to fix mine. Keep in mind the S5 has IP67 protection and the light leakage and improper seal of the camera cover and battery cover are factors that make it far from being water and dust resistant.
7- Samsung refused to replace the phone for me and they said my device is working fine and properly fixed and I have to come and take it if I want. How rude!
my contact mail is marcos.boles@live.com for any clarifications

Go to settings > look for the music app > Clear cache and data.
This should sort out any issues with apps crashing, if not, do the cleaning procedure and uninstall and reinstall the app.

Else you might have some conflict somewhere on your phone, being among your files or you need at the very last some reset factory to isolate your problem.
