XDA forums have a topic about the S6 using both Samsung's ISOCELL and Sony's imaging sensor. It really started since the S5 but it's rarely mentioned in the news. The ISOCELL is said to be the best overall but there was a shortage which is why Samsung used the Sony sensor as a substitute.

According to Samsung both sensors yield similar results:

    Official statement Samsung Benelux.
“The Galaxy S6 and S6 edge utilize camera sensors from several different vendors. Like all of the technology used in our products, they meet our strict global quality and performance standards.”

As I said it started with the S5 but it wasn't a highlight reel during the S5 era so everything discussed about the S6's camera sensor just apply it to the S5 as well.

Nevertheless, you can dial this code to see which sensor you have

    *#34971539#

Apparently it doesn't work for everybody based on region, carrier etc. It's worth a try though.

Please let me know the outcome.

I finally decided to upgrade from my old N8 and since I don't have much money right now I looked at the classifieds for something second-hand, good and affordable. So after I spent some time searching and looking for "the right one" I bought a Galaxy S5. It's in almost perfect condition, 2 years old, the battery was replaced this year, and it has the S-View cover and a tempered glass protection. The guy upgraded to the S6 and sold this one to recover some costs, and he was really taking good care of it. I've been playing with it for a week now, trying and testing everything, and I'm really satisfied. :-) The only downside is that the USB port cover fell off, but I ordered one off eBay already. Seems to be a common problem, and I got it cheaper because of that, so I'm not complaining. :-)

I have my S5 for 2 years and 6 months. After two and a half years my battery still holds up. I am still able to get *5 hours On Screen Time* with my multiple year old battery.

My camera is still working perfectly and working even better with Marshmallow.

The charger works on and off these days but I still got a little over two years before it started giving problems. However, I was able to do better than the charger that came in the box. The original charger that came with my S5 is a USB 2.0 version...I purchased a USB 3.0 charger last month. So I'm back in business again and with greater speeds when I'm ready to transfer data via my desktop computer.

The S5 is not problematic as you make it seem.

I have never regretted owning my S5 and may even get another one when mine does it time.

What many persons tend to forget (and I suspect you may be one such person) is that there are two variants of the S5 camera. One is the ISOCELL version and one is the SONY version. I have the version with the ISOCELL sensor. There's a vast difference in image quality between the two.

A friend of mine was inspired to get an S5 due to the high image qualities of my photos. They got one but their S5 image didn't came out as clear as mine. I realise they got the version with the SONY image sensor.

I don't have blurriness problems with my S5 whether I focus manually or let it automatically focus for me. To be fair, there are a few times an image may bot be focused but it's not a common affair...and every camera have their times...even standalone dedicated cameras. 3/4 of the time my camera take excellent photos.

It takes 1hr. 55mins. to charge the S5 from 0-100%. That's not too long if you ask me.

I had a S2 which came with a 1650 mAh battery and that took 3hr. 10mins. to charge.

The S5 comes with a 2800 mAh battery and charges under 2 hours. That's not bad if you ask me.

Based on the endurance review from GSMArena, yes both the A5 (2016) and A3 (2017) has a longer battery endurance, but in life you give and take. You will have to measure it all up and decide which of the three phones suits your needs best. It's as simple as that. Keep us posted in letting us know which phone you went for and how the experience is going for you.

The S5 all the way. It's still a flagship with premium specifications. Compared to both 'A' series you asked about, the S5 still offers exquisite features over them:

                          1. S5 has UHD video recording (2160p) opposed to 1080p@30FPS for both 'A' series. Not to mention the S5 offers 1080p up to 60FPS and not just 30FPS like both 'A' series.

                          2. S5 has a vast amount of sensors over both 'A' series.

                          3. S5 has heart rate scanner (first smartphone in the world to introduce it).

                          4. S5 is the first and only Galaxy S to offer USB 3.0 (S6,S7 and S8 doesn't have it). USB 3.0 speeds up data tranfers via computer (computer must have USB 3.0 ports to get the faster speed) 10 times faster than USB 2.0.

                          5. S5 is water resistance.

There you have it. 5 reasons to get the S5. "I have 5 on it" and you should too.

Great phone, but if you are one of the unlucky ones, it has an absolutely terrible camera due to it's inability to focus / defocus as the shot is taken.
If a camera is important to you, then avoid this one completely, unless you like to take high resolution, but very blurry images 80% of the time.
