I can stream radio via TuneIn Radio app with my unlimited data subscription and using my Beats wireless headset without the messy wires.
I am happy without the built-in radio in my phone.
Even my tablet has a built-in FM radio but I never use it because I'm happy with radio streaming via TuneIn Radio app.
I love freedom and I don't like to be bind with the messy wires of the headset for radio to work.

Not all people use FM radio in smartphone.
Bluetooth headset with radio is better.

Tcool, 09 Mar 2014Come on, you said you are "travelling the world" ... morewe dn't need heart rate monitor and finger print scanner...what we need is built-in RADIO...you can check your own heart rate by pulse rate test and by putting your hand in your chest, finger print scanner is also a gimmick like iphone...
u r not alone in this world there are people needing this radio in their phone...and stop acting like genius because you know nothing.

You don't need a smartphone, what you need is a basic phone with FM radio to relieve your discomfort.

I do not want more discomfort with additional accessories to remedy the lack of FM Radio. If we want to update our phone and advance the technology we have better options with the LG G2, Xperia Z1 and Z2.

I've used the i9000 (S), i9300 (S3) and SM-9005 (Note 3) and then fly, just like any phones. Maybe yours were fakes. But this Galaxy S5's ratings don't replicate their performance as I said. Your just another Samsung hater right? So many...

Anonymous, 08 Mar 2014buying a extra bit of equipment so you can listen to radio ... moreCome on, you said you are "travelling the world" and you are from Australia. Don't tell me you are multi-lingual to the point that you enjoy listening the Chineese songs on your phone's radio when you travel to China. Or the Arabic songs when you travel to Middle East, or the Hindi songs when you are in India.
Bringing the headset with the messy wires to be use for the radio is more complicated than bringing a bluetooth headset with FM radio without the dangling wires from your phone.
You don't need data for the bluetooth headset with FM radio.
Sacrificed the water resistant, 4G LTE and other great stuffs like heart rate monitor, fingerprint scanner with the radio?
Radio which you can have in bluetooth headset with radio.
And I bet you got your S2 covered with beautiful cover so why bother with the ugly back when you can cover it?
What is the use of metal back if you will just cover it?
Metal will just add weight to the unit.
You don't need S5, what you need is a waterproof radio with metal back. LOL!

As you said, not all of us are the same, bust most people don't use "FM radio in smart phone" and majority wins. Stick with your Note 2 that needs the distracting wired headset for the radio to work.

It seems that you are more concerned about radio than the 4G LTE, you don't need a smartphone, buy a basic phone with radio like the Nokia Asha 310 that matches your budget!
