AnonD-395368, 14 May 2015doing research myself to choose between the s5 and s5 activ... moreWater, Radiation, Shock, Heat, Dust, Impact, and Electromagnetic resistance. Plus it just looks badass, and has good weight. Your doing research (reading Internet reviews) v.s. mine (handling/using the phones firsthand and obtaining manufacturing notes, specs, and tolerances) vary greatly. Not to mention I am Certified and Qualified 10x's over on this subject.

The Samsung Galaxy S5 Active is a great phone. The S2 has been my favorite until now. The S3 and S4 were very dainty, and I do not like the capacitive 3 button style. The S2 featured the Back Button, Home Button, Task Button, and Search Button in that order. It's symmetry was streamlined, and it was still pretty heavy/well built. I've dropped it more times than I can remember, flashed so many times it should be fried, and ran the batt dead and let it sit for so long the cells should have gave out by now. How old is the S2? I have my Original from Boost mobile still. I have been through one for USCC and Att since I moved to an area with no boost coverage and both of those models smashed in a week. So then I got a Motorola E for the meantime while I decided what to do. I had planned to get a Motorola X, and then discovered the S5 Active. The Tactile buttons and same performance Hardware Package as the S5 made it attractive to me. The S5 looked very cheaply made, and felt the same. The active although felt rather sturdy. So I got it. I can say the Lollipop update did no justice and I will flash when I get the time, but this phone is incredible. I've had 28 apps going at once and never experienced a stutter. I can suck 6 gigs of data in 2 days at 100 mbps+ with 4G LTE. The applications for this machine are limitless. Plus, with 10 Gz, I have more power in my phone than 97% of Americans have at home on their desktop or laptop. I can record studio quality films. my phone has been dropped a few times on my wood floors, on tile, on gravel, and even been thrown around my car while it was on the dash sending tunes to my subs via a Belkin transmitter. The lens, nor case, nor screen has a minor imperfection. I went with the Titanium Gray. Anyways..
if you are skeptical because of the speakerphone issue, the mic for speakerphone is at the top of the phone, separate from the standard mic.. Keeping that in mind, problem solved. I had the same problem until I found out where the mic was.
If your having issues with the phone ending calls when flipped, locked, rotated, etc.. then go to Settings>Gestures and tweak toe settings. Then go to Settings>Calls and tweak those settings. Problem solved.
Your S5 wasn't waterproof? Then you installed the battery cover incorrectly. Start bottom both corners first simuktaneously, feel for the next clip points following both thumbs up both sides at the same time, continue to snap in place simultaneously. Also, be mindful and cautious of the micro USB charger input plug as well, and check gaskets for damage every time you expose them or before you reinstall.
Samsung finally stepped up their game enough for me to come back on this one, yet I have no clue who is responsible for the disastrous S6 and S6 Active. They are plagued with caching, memory, and bandwidth management issues, plus stationary battery. Now, I am not sure because I forget to check on this, but I heard there is no memory expansion slot (MicroSD/XD/HC port) as well. If that's the case, once again Samsung is having leadership issues or has a rogue employee.

AnonD-361430, 04 May 2015I have read a lots comments so far making me confuse : the ... moredoing research myself to choose between the s5 and s5 active. BOTH are waterproof up to 3 ft for 30 mins. BOTH have gorilla glass. The difference is the "bumpers" on the s5 active that are " shock absorbing"... the regular s5 has no shock absorption. this is what makes the diff size wise. Inside they are the same... so the active is nt " slower".

I've owned all Galaxy S phones 1-5 and the S5 Active is the best by far. Being and extreme outdoorsman I can actually use my phone out in the elements without worry. As I passed on getting the S6 because of the inability to change battery or add storage, my wife got the S6 and we swapped phones for the day. I can't begin to say how glad I am that I passed on the S6. It's so delicate and felt as if I had to be very careful of it all the time. Don't get me wrong, the S6 worked very well with good features, but not any more than the S5 Active. The fingerprint scanner didn't work well and glad its not on the Active. S5 Active is a GREAT phone!

RUN don't walk from this phone. Worst ever and Samsung and AT&T REFUSE to acknowledge what a piece of junk it really is.
I sent the phone back to Samsung twice, they called me and asked what was wrong. This after two conversations with the online customer service rep about the problems. So, my issues are the speaker phone doesn't work, and everyone I talk to says either they can't hear me, or it sounds like I am crinkling cellophone in the receiver or that I am standing in a tunnel. Also, the Active key stopped working which I am pretty sure is one of the KEY features of the phone. The tech had the nerve to ask "What is the active key?" Now I know I am totally screwed. My old 4 year old cell phone works better than the hunk of junk. I will NEVER buy Samsung again. This after I own a Samsung refrigerator, computer and washing machine which I love.

Thanks for all the comments. My S4minis screen stopped working today, and samsung asked me very close to the same price to replace the screen as a new S4mini would cost. I pretty much chose to never use samsung again after using samsung for few years now. After looking at what's available and durable the s5 active came up and I considered getting one, but seems to be just as bad as the rest. It's a pitty though, seems like there is not much other durable phones people are happy with. Definitely not going for this, or any samsung.

This phone isn't rubbish. It's a great phone and whoever is having issues with it just has a problem with technology. To the person who said their relative had the s3 active and switched, obviously doesn't know what they are talking about. There is no such thing as the s3 active. If you don't know first hand about something then keep your mouth shut, for the sake of sacred science. I had the s3 and upgraded to the s5 active. It's an incredible device. The Lollipop update is a retrograde in certain aspects, but the phone handles it superbly.

This phone is horrible. My fiance got it, fortunately I picked the lg g3 last year, and ever since he got it with each update there's been no improvement. Even with the lollipop update the battery life got even worse and it over heats. I literally unplugged it and watched the battery percent go from 100% to 95% in exactly 1 minute. Do not waste your money! Trust me!

This phone is rubbish. I recommend spending your money elsewhere. My dad had the SGS3 active and loved it, he upgraded to S5a and I went from iPhone to S5a, bad decision. The lock button is on the right side of the phone so it always being touched by a thumb / finger and if you lock on phone calls it hangs up, very annoying. sending texts took a while to grt used to because of the same issue with the lock button. The size makes it clumsy, you might think "oh it's just a little bigger" but I've dropped this phone more times than any other because it's so wide you can't fit you hand all the way across the back comfortably and it falls when you take it from your pocket, in mIne and my dads cases at least. We're guys with big hands and it still happens. The glass to protect the camera is thin and cheap so it breaks very easily, rendering your phone no longer water proof. Also, I dropped my iPhone 5 without a case countless times and the screen stayed intact over 16 months or so. Only after falling 3 stories from an apartment balcony to cement did the screen receive damage, this S5a fell from my lap in a car to the ground and the screen shattered. Only had it about 3 months. It also has a bunch of apps that are useless that run up your data like crazy, you have to mess with settings to make it stop doing that. I was running my data through the roof the first 2 months, like within a week or 2 I would get data usage warnings and my phone is always in wifi at home or on campus (college student). The screen is so big and great quality, those are plus', but this means it requires more data to stream if you're out of wifi range, very bad. Overall the phone is mediocre, if you're a business man with a jacket pocket to keep the phone it might be a good option, but for the active, young, college student or someone who works with their hands daily, this is a very bad option.

Teri, 05 Mar 2015I was reluctant to change from the iPhone to the Samsung...... moreOh my god my phone does EXACTLY what yours does to the letter! The 911 pocket dials are the worst because it literally happens 3x a week. Also the predictive text started auto filling full sentences for me instead of just a word, when it did autocorrect a word it is typically not even close to what i wanted..i think i hate this phone, which sucks because i loved it for the first month and cant exchange it at thi point. I hope someone finds a fix for this...
