That's a plus and short lifespan is a negative. About apps that's a plus about Samsung. You dont need app for anything necessary even app lock not needed we have secure folder.

There are numerous apps which monitor your data even if they don't have the storage permission... Just search something on amazon or Flipkart you will have the same ads of them on every other app...
Bro, its better to rely on stockish features than installing third party apps... Like applock is present by default on experience 9, as of now I have to use a third party app to fulfill the purpose...
Bro, phones with symbian os were quite simple... Their basic purpose was just call, text, few photos, one or two games and apps and that's it... Now the phones are just not limited to all this... They have bucket load of features, which make our lives similar but at the cost of durablity... These smart features like AI require a combination of a lot of transistors, diodes, resistors, inductors and what not... Every generation the chipset is manufactured on diffrent architecture, some 28, some 14, some 10... All this effects on their reliability... One of the above element stops working or doesnt work effectively and efficiently, and the entire chipset is screwed...

Security update is very necessary other than that how many new software features each update get? Almost all of them are already available in Samsung for so long. It's high time people should focus on stability and bug free secure phone that lasts long. What most fails to understand with each update your phone is getting slower. I miss Symbian phones which lasts a decade and more. My Nokia n95 is still running like a champ. After that all my android phones are dead within 2/3 years or as good as dead.

Galaxy S7 Oreo update out in South Korea
As is usually the case, the update has been released for all the major carriers in South Korea. The build number is KLU1ERE8 and it includes the April 2018 security patch . The update should be able for download over the air through the Settings » Software update menu, and we also have the firmware
available on our database (it may take some time for the firmware to be uploaded for each carrier). It shouldn’t be long before the update is released for the Galaxy S7 edge as well. Of course, we have our fingers crossed that Samsung will soon be releasing the Galaxy S7 Oreo update in other markets, though it’s best not to get your hopes up until the company actually starts doing that.

And yeah, midrangers get only 1 major update... But they're midrangers, people have invested almost half or in some cases 1/4 the money as compared to a flagship...

Well, I switched from Oneplus X (their mid-range model) from the end of 2015. The only bigger update was Android 5 to 6. Last update was 1 year after launching the phone - no security patches, no bug fixes - although it was near pure Android, without bloat.
But even with the flagships they don't commit to any promises even regarding security patches.
Similar experience with Sony 2013 mid-ranger. That only got Android 4.1 -> 4.3 update.

Even the note 5 pro has started getting oreo... That's an insult to people's hard earned money... Okay, a small delay would have been considered but now the delay is just too much...
