Expensive phone screen protector did not stay on first phone... broken screen. Tried again with liquid ptotection screen does not hold up... screen dropped with 1st week less than 4 ft... ding and spider web in corner. Feel of dry..about 3 ft and damaged other corner. Never buy this product... even question if ever want another Samsung phone.

I made the mistake of buying launch day from a retail high street. But, then again I'm quite impulsive and impatient....couldn't wait ...made the decision.....no regrets. Delighted!
The S8 and S8 Plus at their current price represents excellent value for money.... even better if you can grab a freebie - VR Headset with Controller.a Bluetooth Speaker etc Bargain!
But
As you point out the S9 launch isn't that far away and it's a pretty saturated market, so plenty of choice out there.
If budget is an issue, then act wisely :) Good Luck

Screen bre... moreWell, my Huawei P10 Lite is completely shattered from a half foot drop, even if the "fall" was softened by my sneaker and only then hit the floor. I guess they all break if they're made of glass. I don't blame the manufacturer, I blame myself for being clumsy and not using a case from day one. It's not a design flaw, they're not made of bullet-proof glass. If we want a resistant phone, we better get a rugged version like the ones contractors use. Glass back mobiles are slippery.

While Samung have their great camera but their phones doesn't give too much attention on updates especially on Oreo update. But the camera on Xperia phones especially their Motion Eye camera also good but little behind due to lack of some features like OIS for low-light photography. But the performance on Samsung isn't bad either. Like you said, you could try them simultaneously and choose what suited for you ;-)

Screen breaks from 1 foot high, even with glass protector and protected case.
Over 300 broken screens complaints on line. Some days old.
Samsung refuses to take any action or responsibility against defective and design flaw.
