This was my first brand new flagship smartphone. I got it before the S9 came out. It was a great phone for me, and I'd probably still be using it if it had come with more RAM and a bigger battery that could still hold a charge. If I had gotten the S8+, I'd probably still be using it today. My S8 still works fine, but the battery doesn't last anymore and the RAM isn't enough anymore. Overall an 8/10 phone in my book!

You can install a custom ROM if Android 9 is too old for you, or sometimes downloading the "incompatible" app through F-Droid (open source apps) or Aurora Store (play store fork) and spoofing the device may let you at least download the app. Maybe all the features won't work though. I did this with an S7 to spoof the model into an S20 or something to download some GoPro app and it actually worked fine, despite not being available on the official store for that S7. I didn't test all the features but it seemed to mostly work at least. Great idea for old phones!

I'm not responsible for damage to your device or data loss. This very likely won't happen but in case it for some reason does, do this at your own risk. I use Aurora and F-Droid exclusively (no google play) and have no problems though!

              :)

All of these that come into my shop ALWAYS crack about 60% up the right side on the curved part. They are all north american versions though. Do the Exynos ones crack there too? Have you ever seen a cracked one where it didn't crack there?

Starter, 07 Jun 2023I need a new phone because of screen cracks, but hate to gi... moreYou can replace the screens pretty easily if you wanted to keep using it, all you need is a plastic card, glue, and a small philips screwdriver. I usually order from mobilesentrix or esource. I recommend replacing the battery with the screen but if not just put some IPA under the battery.

If not then, depending on your usage I have a few different recommendations.

If camera is most important check out Xiaomi 13 Ultra, best camera I've seen in a phone.

If battery life and flashlight is important then check out Unihertz Tank 1, 22000mAh battery and giant flashlight. It is big and heavy though.

For kind of smaller phones the ASUS Zenphone 9 and iPhone 13 Mini are smaller and you can kind of use them one hand.

Samsung has those folding phones if you need a really big screen. Would avoid the Z Flip 4 though, the hinges on that particular one are really weak from what I've seen in my shop. I've not seen models 1, 2, or 5 yet, and no Z Fold. Motorola Razr 41 is also a good folding one.

Ulefone have a bunch of phones with niche features like thermal camera, big speakers, etc. Most have really big batteries. The lower end models are pretty slow though. I've seen a few of these in person actually and the Power Armor 18T/18/19/19T are good, and the Power Armour 21, and the Power Armour 13. The thermal cameras are real thermal cameras but thermal resolution is low and they have slow framerate on those thermal cameras. They also don't seem to have OIS on the main cameras so have a steady hand. Don't buy for the main cameras.

I don't know much about gaming phones, nobody asks me about them and I don't see any in my shop in Canada.

I personally use this S8, wouldn't even trade it for S23 Ultra.

Where to start with the S8..? It's one of the best looking Samsung devices ever and will always be. The S8 in 2023 is still usable, even though it's on Android 9 everything can be done on this phone. The cameras (from usage) contrast lots of red for no reason. If you want to buy this phone, go for it (unless you're buying a iPhone X)! Get the Snapdragon model though, be careful for burn-in, get a screen protecter and a OtterBox since it's far from durable. This was getting near the end of Samsung Experience (r.i.p) because OneUI was coming around! Great. OneUI 1.0 (Android 9) killed this phone because it's bland. If Samsung gave it all the way up to OneUI 3.1 (Android 11) I'd recommened it.

                                  also yes exynos version
                                  and graphics to the lowest
                                  but sometinmes play at medium
it is not good anyways ( not the phone ) when U play at medium since the phone will be hot to the point it will fry eggs
                                  plus 10-15 min battery life

Miles001, 26 Jun 2023Do you get stable 60fps when playing fortnite on high graph... moreyes when all apps are closed, performance mode is set to max ( gaming or high performance mode ) and at low settings ( everything set to low ) and performance mode.
thus my S8 battery is dreadfully horrible that it lasts only 20-30 minutes while gaming so I keep a powerbank with me always.
my S8 is purchased since 6.5 years. I replaced it since maybe a week with a galaxy S23 because of the battery issue the fact even on whatsapp only 1 hour, anyways now I use my S8 only as an iPod and as a gaming phone

I believe it's still a manageable device in 2023,if you're to use it for gaming,I'd low graphics and high framerates, most importantly get a phone cooling device, it'll help a lot...that's what I still use though, the camera still takes decent photos, the battery does it best, like I said still manageable in 2023 after all it's a flagship

This phone when it was revealed, i thought that Samsung couldn't get better than this, this was peak Samsung, idk why they cant reuse this design in the A14, looks so timeless to me, even the specs would beat any budget phone today. (this looks way better than a14 in everyway, the notch in a14 looks ugly compared to this) the nostalgia hits hard in this and wish it got andriod 11 and Samsung update policy wasn't bad back then. you can see the hearts start to decrease because people didn't care anymore after this and the iPhone X.
