But surely with battery-saving tips I've learned in the past that can improve a lot. If I can get the Exynos version (I live in the UK) then battery life I can "manage".
Why did you say Xperia phones have heating issues? I've never heard that before.

I have an s8 and... moreRight now i'm slowly gearing for the S8 due to budget constraints but if I can find a good, m int-condition S9 then I will go for it despite criticisms to it's battery life ((and some from the camera and the usual performance/memory management) which I can live with by doing all those battery-saving tips I've learned in the past.

At the mome... moreI had the XZ1 before this but the camera was disappointing, specially in low light the pics were quite blurred with lack of details due to no OIS. Whereas the S8 is concerned it has one of the best cameras on smartphone and takes stunning pics in any lighting conditions. As far as the XZ2 and S9 are concerned I would suggest you to go for the S9 blindly, I agree that Sony gets faster updates but those updates don't change anything. By the way my S8 is already running on October security patch.

              At the moment my heart is set between the current S9 and a slightly older Xperia XZ2.

              Having second thoughts with the S8 simply because of the fingerprint scanner placement and the fact that updates maybe even slower now that it has been relegated to an old flagship.

              Thoughts about S9 vs XZ2?

                Useful UI features
                Speakers output

                  i hate the batterylife of my s9 more than anything else. i have to charge it four times a day. its not normal at all. and also charge drops even when i use it when connected to charger. surely if i didnt need its 256gb internal i would sell it sooner but i cant find any better phone in the market except xiaomi f1 256gb which i couldnt find even in china

So I think it has great battery life if not the best. Don't go for the mid range A or J series Samsung phones they are no where when compared to the camera quality of S8, it's a stunner no matter what the lighting conditions are. Rest is upto you, after all it's your choice & money.

That is why there are so many promotions and nobody buy it at 850 € retail price in my country. But if you get it for 500 € it is a compact phone with great quality and top camera. And even if it is 8 months old already, it is much better than P20.

                        The S9 is absurdly expensive for its specs and features.

The Pocophone seem like a good choice but not officially available in the UK and having Xiaomi's UI is not my cup of tea. And besides the Pocophone is not water resistant; having that feature for me is a must as i lost 2 phones in the past worth over £500 in total.

                          As a side question would you agree the S8 has better cameras than the A8 2018?

Otherwise your phone is under warranty so return it instead of complaining.

                                      I needed a second phone apart my great S8, so i bought an S9. Best compact phone with a very good deal for less than 500 €. But if you are not in a hurry wait for S10... I always wait at least 6 months after launch, to be sure all the bugs have been fixed.
