Anonymous, 27 Apr 2020Did you ever think that people buy iPads because Apple was ... moreIt's OK if you deny 'CONSPICUOUS CONSUMPTION', that it's not the APPLE BRAND NAME and APPLE LOGO as the MAIN driving factor for your purchase. A lot of Apple users do deny as well.
But then those same Apple device users plaster the free Apple decals/stickers everywhere from their vehicle windshields to their journals, planners, notebooks amd what-have-you and some even reuse their Apple Store shopping bags over and over again for non-Apple store purchases.
Regarding 'maturity and refinement', all I can say is it's really splitting hairs. In fact, android is actually more mature and refined in terms of software interface and customization. The iPad may have more tablet optimized apps but that's about it in terms of 'maturity' and 'refinement'. Everything else, android is more mature and refined as a software. And if you consider flagship hardware from top manufacturers and experience Google's Pixel Phones to Samsung's Note series to Oneplus' super smooth, slick user interface, you'll actually think the iPhones and iPads look kind of sluggish and dated, cluttered looking without an app drawer and widgets - a lot less slicker and less refined compared to the super smooth user interface of those above. But then again, as I said, it's basically 'splitting hairs'. Both systems are sufficiently mature and refined and the only difference is the PRICE and BRAND IMAGE/PRESTIGE.
As I said, Apple users can deny that it's not primarily the BRAND, but then again, HUMAN psychology and PRESTIGE marketing say otherwise. So my advice? Stop denying and get real and be true to your motivations. Nothing can quite turn heads than that shiny Apple logo which celebrities endorse and truly rich people (including pretending to be rich people) use.

Again, you have cheap iPads as well. Is everyone buying an iPad Pro, just to show off? Different people different needs, it's that simple. You can't presume everyone buying one product over the other is doing it for "status". If you go outside, you will see that your statement doesn't apply 90% of the time.
We should be able to compare different devices to each other, without being insulted by some passive aggressive hater who can't stand different views...

Anonymous, 27 Apr 2020Sad to say but it's a fact in India, China and the rest of ... moreThat's not to say the product is not premium. Yes it is premium but between two premium items (and even not so premium ones), the social experiments reveal MOST (not all) PEOPLE buy things based on PERCEIVED value. A HIGH PRICE tag product which are endorsed by Hollywood celebrities and which all their RICH neighbors and rich FRIENDS own, will be perceived as higher value even if the other product is exactly identical (just disguised in color and form) and displayed with a much higher price tag.
Apple is a master of that art (the art of prestige marketing). It's not the best phone, in terms of REAL WORLD USE and FUNCTION for the HUGE MAJORITY. But people will still buy it because they want to 'stand out' and 'belong'. They want to be identified with the celebrities, rich endorsers, and their rich neighbors. Not all of them, get caught on the 'PLACEBO' effect, mind you, but majority. That's human psychology at work, and yes iPhone/iPad owners can deny it but it won't change the fact it's the way the human mind works.

Peter UK, 26 Apr 2020You guys below have nothing else to do? If someone believes... moreSad to say but it's a fact in India, China and the rest of the world outside the US. You can deny it over and over but that doesn't change the fact majority still buy the brand to 'stand out' and make it a 'status symbol' in the same way people buy Ferraris not because its absolutely the best, most comfortable and fastest way to get around busy city roads but to make a statement about ones financial capacity and 'social standing'. You may ignore it has nothing to do with being 'rich' but subconsciously most people will still interpret it as such in their minds. There are plenty of social experiments to confirm my claim and while A FEW do judge a thing based on real value, majority still judge it's value based on PRICE TAG.

You guys below have nothing else to do? If someone believes that when most people use Apple and you have to use apple too otherwise you'll stand out... I pity you and your daily life. How about coming out of the society closet and do, use whatever you want to? Whoever buys apple or samsung product just because others use it, is in my opinion just sad. Get what you love and what makes you happy, don't care about others because by the end of the day they don't give a single F... about you and your devices. LOL

I'm sure, many other iPad/iPhone users also have the same motivation. However, many become defensive and deny it, (or they're simply not just aware of it).
It's an inherent human need to 'belong' to, to be identified with the 'elite', affluent and the rich. These users keep on denying that it's not about the 'cool' APPLE brand name and logo but rather the product quality and experience. Well I can only smile. Apple marketing knows better.
People don't buy expensive Ferraris over regular Japanese SUVs because the Ferrari really gives them a more spacious,
comfortable driving experience. They don't buy Ferraris because it makes them arrive at their destination faster and earlier in regular busy city traffic. IT'S CERTAINLY NOT ANY OF THOSE REASONS. They actually buy a Ferrari because it makes them arrive at their destination with elegance, finesse and style while subconsciously making a statement to others that they have more money than the rest and BELONG to the upper echelons of society.

Nobody wears business attire in a white tie event. Using an android phone in a largely iPhone loving demographic just puts so much attention to the android user. It's good if you want attention and possibly discrimination but otherwise bad, ifvyou just want to blend in.

"The suffocating, jurassic walled garden iOS/iPadOS experience is a lot WORSE experience for me than having no android updates in an android tablet." is my personal statement against Apple and its devices and software in the same way that
"Never again an Android tablet. It's just not worth it" is your personal statement against Android tablets as a whole.
Sounds like a perfectly fair and reasonable rebuttal to your statement above.

It shows you are a hater and can't comment rationally. Before writing iOS for example you use like 3 negative adjectives. That is a form of ridiculing other peoples opinions.

But really, if you're not happy with the S5e, just go back to your iPad which, you seem to like a lot more. I'm not against complaints against slow Android software updates and I've always wanted worldwide regulation to penalize Android manufacturers that fail to provide guaranteed security updates for up to 5 years (not necessarily android version updates) to ALL Android devices. However, I've learned to accept the fact that it is the logical consequence of android diversity - the price so to speak, that I have to pay for the freedom and diversity of choices Android offers me. Have owned many Android brands in the past - Huawei, Lenovo, Xiaomi, Asus, LG, Samsung, etc. so I'm not loyal to any manufacturer.
