Anonymous, 21 Mar 2025is it worth it now? for watching movies and picture viewingNo Android updates beyond 6 or 7, so although it has many great elements (screen res and thin/light form factor) its 11 years since launch so getting hard to keep using (i.e doesn't support YouTube app) and installing a custom rom isn't for most people.

The green color of the display when it’s turned off always looks really cool and interesting. This tablet was a perfect size. The official case was cool as well, That was a good year for Samsung with the Note 4 too.

Their services get more and more demanding with each update and older devices just can't keep up. Disable all Google apps and services and your tablet should start working a lot better

Whats with tech when they age, they become very slow and unstable with their upgrades??? without upgrading apps or no wifi. IS this intentional by manufacturers. My tab used to be nice and speedy, now its sluggish..

I would recommend the LineageOS 14.1 Unofficial ROM. Been using that for years and performance is as great as this chipset allows. Battery life lasts for over 45 days on standby, an extraordinary feat for any device.
I find this AMOLED is nicer than most OLEDs of today, and the reason for this is ironically the fact it's a less refined panel. Ironically, the overly saturated colors make pictures look way more realistic.

This 2024 the tablet still works fine (not great since it already outdated). I am using Lineage OS Android 10 Custom ROM without Google. Mostly for productivity, reading and casual games (via Aurora Apps)
The battery is still works ~ 8hrs. The weight is so great not tiring
I use this for watching Youtube using NewPipe app at 720p, since it doesn't work well at 1080p. The videos are stunning coz its AMOLED.
I mostly use it for non demanding task like reading PDF the 2K screen looks its a printed so makes me focus more.
I play Zombie Tsunami, Temple Run, Streetfood Tycoon, Super Mario Run. All short casual games as breaks while reading. The games runs fine all installed via Aurora Apps since I dont have PlayStore.
So thinking of its age and performance issues you will use it more only for meaningful task like reading books. Since no other tablet of this size and screen resolution is available yet to replace this. Happy I can still enjoy and will repair as much as I can (battery and USB port)

Superhans, 22 May 2020Well into 2020 and this gem of a tablet, with its marvelous... moreTotally with the 'high-res" kindle assessment of its feather-like weight bar the fact that, unlike the well known reader, the S 8.4 shows you book covers in colour! Also, comics look gorgeous in it as well!
It is definitely a one-of-a-kind tablet!

I recently buy one this 2022. I must say why Samsung discontinued to release this size with a stunning display (359 ppi) these days. Its so light and the display is a lot better than the recent S8+ 266 ppi.
I am lucky to acquire this after 8 years with a superb condition of its battery 10+ hours. I mostly use this for productivity like reading e-books and occasional videos. No browsing, facebook, games or other modern apps. I use my other tablet, phone or PC for that.
Upgrading it to Android 10 custom rom without GApps makes it perform well. I was able to use onscreen navigation keys instead of the hardware one will sure extend its life.
This tablet is a great buy this 2022 if you find a good condition like mine. I am so happy I was able to read a lot of books with it without modern apps distraction. Its stunning display and perfect size makes you read more.
I must say you can still show off this tablet to anyone with a newer tablet.
