I did not have this problem wit... moreOf course they do not state any warning, because this is a potential issue with all screens, or rather, any combo of glasses and screen. This is not something special about the XCover Pro - and if anything, it might as well be the responsibility of the optician who sold you the glasses. I have polarized glasses myself: my XCover Pro seems completely unaffected, my FieldPro (AMOLED) dims very slighty in landscape mode, my work iPhone SE dims a bit more, and my fiance's P30 Pro (AMOLED) goes completely black when held diagonally (between landscape and portrait). My car dashboard goes black if I tilt my head sideways (not much risk for that in practice).

If you choose to wear polarized glasses it is your responsibility to figure out what works and what does not. I am not sure what you expect - it sure is not reasonable to expect phone manufacturers to test their phones with all glasses on the market, and they cannot give a blanket statement "works with polarized" or "has problems with polarized", because it depends on the individual glasses.

I did not have this problem with Amoled or SuperAmoled displays when using polarized sunglasses. So I was surprized now with IPSC sreen on Excover Pro. But I would expect Samsung to think about this prior to devoloping of their products. Also this was not stated in phone specifications as warning.

LCD inherently emits polarized light, and with OLED the manufacturers usually add a polarizing filter to reduce glare. Now put on polarized glasses, and depending on the angle the two layers of polarization will interfere with each other, causing rainbow effects, dark bands or even a blank black screen. Some glasses will be more compatible with some screens, but it is hard to predict. Users of polarized glasses need to be aware of such risks. It is one reason why pilots are not supposed to wear polarized glasses, and it can even be an issue with cars that have digital instruments.

Here one important note for summer use in combination with polarized sunglasses. There is some error-phenomen about which officials do not speak and it is following:
if you put the phone into landscape mode and you are wearing polarized sun glasses - the screen is basically unusable (goes totally dark). But when you rotate it to portrait mode, its visible again. This is very uncomfortable phone property.

Zakalwe, 21 Apr 2022I agree in principle, and of course every little bit matter... moreA full charge will cause a. 87 loss in the total number of manufacturers planned charging cycles.
A 85 % charge will be a .17 loss according to the AccuBattery app.
If that is correct it's a big deal.
Enough to have my first battery in the XCOVER PRO last almost 3 years.
Today I have 3 that gets recycled.

You are right that nothing is forever, but going easy on charging and exposure can help us and the next generation and the next.

Let's all advance repairability and common sense.

FenCPH, 20 Apr 2022Why you should care about the life of your battery is simpl... moreI agree in principle, and of course every little bit matters, but nevertheless I wonder how much effect we are talking about here. Lithium batteries can be recycled, it just happens far too rarely today. As far as I understand, the big issues are how to deal with EV batteries (each equivalent to thousands of phones), and non-removable (and often proprietary) batteries in consumer electronics that lead to old devices ending up in drawers because people do not know what to do with them. The XCover Pro battery has a good chance of actually being recycled, so from an environmental perspective I would think this already puts it ahead of most phones on the market.

Then should we go further and limit the charging to extend the battery lifetime? Maybe, but how much is the effect? A lithium battery will degrade no matter what we do, even when not used and stored under ideal conditions - and phones do get used and carried around everywhere. Are we talking years of lifetime extension or mere months?

Also, a battery should not be discharged below about 15% (some recommend even higher discharge limits). Limiting the top charge to 85% might mean the user has to get additional chargers, power banks or spare batteries to avoid ending up below 15% during the day, thereby cancelling out the environmental advantage of using one battery a little bit longer.

Personally, I charge to 100% and replace after around 1.5 years. With my last one I went longer because I rarely left the house during the pandemic, so endurance was not so important.

exp1orer, 18 Apr 2022why do i have to care about the life of the battery of this... moreWhy you should care about the life of your battery is simply because the manufacturing uses essential ingredients that are limited in quantity and will affect the quality of other specimens life.

If you don't care, you're grandchildren and/or their children certainly will.

there seems to be an improvement in the battery usage of this phone after i upgraded to Android 12 UI4.0...it doesn't drain that fast...but the phone became slower :(

FenCPH, 15 Apr 2022Get a specific charger like CHARGIE so to smarter charge yo... morewhy do i have to care about the life of the battery of this phone? it has a removable battery which i should be able to replace after 2 years...but replacing the drained one every day is of course a hassle.

As of the Android 12 upgrade you can even use the settings to limit the charging to 85% (Settings->Device care->Battery->More battery settings). Not as good as a smart charger, but it is a start.

Though to be honest, with battery replacements being so easy and cheap (around €25 here) I just put in a fresh one every year or so. I did that the other day, and the phone even seems faster - does Samsung throttle when batteries age, or am I imagining things?

Either way, if "exp1orer" cannot get through the day even with a new battery, then that sounds like some other problem. Maybe some runaway process? The aforementioned auto brightness can be the reason here, with the CameraLightSensor app going crazy and running full time. Clearing its cache and data can help.

exp1orer, 15 Apr 2022Biggest weakness of my XCover Pro is battery...I use it for... moreGet a specific charger like CHARGIE so to smarter charge your phone at night to 50% and have the charger top it opp to 85% as you wake up.
That will keep your battery fine for 3 or more years.

Biggest weakness of my XCover Pro is battery...I use it for browsing only on facebook, very few video play but it hardly lasts a day...another weakness is the auto screen brightness...this seems to be a common problem with Samsung rugged smartphones...both my XCover 4 and Xcover Pro can't get the auto brightness correctly which btw have LCD screens...my A7 2017 auto brightness works perfectly and its battery preforms better than the XCover Pro.

The XCover Pro just got Android 12 with OneUI 4.1.

I've already had my phone replaced due to a faulty back light and the same thing has happened yet again. The phone is gone for 2 weeks. A huge disruption to my business and many hours of my time backing up and transferring files from one phone to another. I recommend replacing this phone with something else , because as long as Samsung will not admit to this being a systemic issue with this model(and permanently fix the issue), every time the phone is replaced, it will have the same fault re-occur yet again! Absolutely insulting the way that Samsung treat their customers. I will be requesting a full refund and never purchase this phone again. My hard earned money spent for a so called 'tough military standard' phone...and they don't even offer spare batteries online or from retailers.... or even make a stand alone spare battery charger like they did with the S5 or even offer a factory POGO phone charging dock. Why then build a phone with POGO pins and removable battery in the first place??? Never again. What a waste of my valuable TIME, my LIFE HOURS and my MONEY!!! An otherwise good phone concept and experience sullied due to poor customer care by SAMSUNG.

The first more solid rumors about a successor have emerged, the SM-G736B, possibly the Xcover Pro 2:

Asides from the obvious addition of 5G, my personal wish list is to add substantially more RAM and keep the old-school features (removable battery, card slot, headphone jack). Maybe even go for a more Xcover 5-inspired design with no punch hole camera; if you have bezels anyway, use them.

Why can Samsung advertise a phone as Duel sim's, sell these phones as Duel sim's and have them not be able to have two sim's. Isn't that false advertising?

Hopefully Samsung makes an updated Xcover phone or one of a similar style soon.
